  1. Allen, It was a reality gig and each talent took it upon themselves to pull their own wire. I always try to stop them, but they always want to "help out". Not sure if this is what caused it, but it worked and now it doesn't. The production asked "Did someone from **** (the production company) break it?" and that's when I knew that I was going to have to just eat it. $68 at Trew isn't too bad. If the new DPA's were out, I would definitely start making the switch over, but I've heard all the other models are a little fragile and if I'm breaking some Cos11's I've got to stick with something made for battle.
  2. I'm working on a two day gig. One of my cos11d's was working at one location but at the nexted, I started getting pops and cut outs. It got worse. I took it apart and put it back together and now I'm getting nothing. The wire is maybe 2 years old and I take pretty good care of all my gear. Should production cover this or should I just eat it? Thanks, SW
  3. Martin, I was trying to do what Daniel said, sorry for the bad description of what I was trying to do.
  4. Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm wanting to basically have automix on my lavs, but have a base level of my boom to give it some space. Anytime I try to add the boom in the output, it stops automix from happening. Any idea on how to do this? Thanks, SW
  5. I searched the site but couldn't find it. How do you calibrate the battery on the TRX743? Thanks.
  6. So I'm working on some car stereo reality show thing. Anyway, i asked what exactly they wanted me to get and they want me to record inside and outside of the car. When I asked how loud it got, he said 160dB. I don't think this is possible, but if it is, anyone got any ideas?
  7. That's where I noticed it first. Wasn't terrible the whole time but it was really noticable during that scene specifically.
  8. It's possible that it was done in post, but I doubt anyone would go for that sound unless they were stuck with it (aka production sound). Sounded like transmitter compression to me.
  9. Hey guys, just got done watching It (2017) and I was curious what you guys thought of the sound. The sound design and music were very good, but it sounded like the dialogue was distorting constantly. It sounded like distortion from getting crushed by compressors. Definitely sounded like something that was done on set and not in post. Maybe it was just the center speaker at the theater I was at, but I was curious if anyone else had the same experience.
  10. I know this program is made for HDD, but disk drill might be able to recover the files. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  11. I'm sorry, it's hard to explain. I have the sound from the film itself, but they are yelling and it's supposed to be something they are watching on a date. It's more about making the content from the movie less distracting. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  12. So to start off, I'm helping a friend with a short film and I've hit a brick wall. Here's what's going on. In this film, there is a scene where this couple are watching a movie on the couch and to avoid any legal problems, the director just had another one of his films on the tv. So first off, the audio on his previous project isn't great; and the main issue is that the little tidbits of the movie that you actually see, the characters are clearly yelling. I've asked them if they could recut this scene to show less of the shots where they are yelling but of course they didn't have much else to work with. I've tried muffling the video and making it quieter so it's not so invasive, but nothing seems to work. It's looking like I may have to dub over it and make it less distracting, but with it looking like they are yelling on screen, I don't see a way around it. Does anyone have any tips on how I can make this not super distracting? Thanks, SW
  13. Thanks, these Zaxcom manuals are tough to follow. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  14. I'm trying to get into a Zaxcom Nomad since I already use Zaxcom wireless. I've been going through the manual and I can't seem to figure out a few things, the main one being the input configure set. As someone who has never used AES inputs, I am very confused. I'm assuming that the analog xlr inputs (1-4) are always enabled and if you want to use 5 & 6, you have to select an option that enables them. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Also, options where Zaxnet is OFF, does this mean I can't control my wireless with these options? Now, let me tell you what I'm working with and you tell me what I need to do. I have 2 QRX200's receiving 4 TRXLA3.5's. I would like to run these digitally. I have a boom and 3 backup/extra wires that use XLRs. And finally, I would like to use Zaxnet just to control the wireless, no ERX's. Which option should I choose? Thank you guys so much in advance, this will be very helpful.
  15. Sorry for being vague, I'm using the trxla3.5's. I've been using the default settings, but just wanted to know what everyone else was using. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  16. I'm pretty new to zaxcom and I'm curious what settings people recommend for the Dynamics settings. Thanks, SW Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  17. It is possible. I boomed for a guy a few times while back that had it internally wired. I loved that boom, it makes long interviews a breeze. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  18. Thanks for the advice, buddy. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  19. So day rate but no gear? Just to clarify. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  20. What do you normally charge on scouting days? Thanks, SW Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  21. I'm using the M-216 P7 which is running off of a 9v. I'll try adjusting the power settings on the IFB200. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  22. I recently pickup an IFB200 to control my TX remotely; however, I've run into an issue where the IFB200 completely overpowers the comteks with a loud tone. I've tried many different channels with the comteks with no success. I didn't think this was going to be a issue since the IFB200 is operating around 2.4GHz. Is there something I'm missing, or will I just have to kill the IFB200 when I don't need to adjust gain or frequencies? Thanks. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  23. I believe that if go to the REC settings and set it to poly + LR or Mono + LR it does. If it doesn't, have LR in the settings you choose, then I believe it is just the ISO's. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  24. I totally understand that experience is the best way to learn something, but wouldn't I be ignorant to just do it without trying everything I can to better myself? I haven't been mixing for a very long time, but I also got hired on to something that I'd rather not screw up. So to clarify, I need experience, but a book would be nice. Thanks. 25. Is there any very in-depth books (or articles) on location sound that covers lav techniques extensively? I bought "Location Audio Simplified", but nearly every technique shown involves front loaded lavs, which I own COS -11D's, so it's not as helpful as I had hoped. Unfortunately I never had a mentor to walk me through some of the techniques and I would like some guidance on this subject specifically. Thanks, SW Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
