I've noticed that any typical booming, no matter the mic or polar pattern, will come across as noticeably much much more diffuse compared to the way music is recorded for radio, albums, etc. This is not to say at all that it can't be done, and the resultant rawness of someone performing in an untreated room can be more heartfelt in a lot of ways, but this rawness can tread the line of amateurish if handled poorly.
