My version of the Magliner vertical cart.

I'm curious what you used as your base here, I searched the magliner website and couldn't find anything that allowed front casters like you have.

Question about passive splitter for bag use

It's just a series of never ending bell curves...you get to the top in one then quickly fall to the bottom of not knowing the next thing and it just keeps repeating.

Question about passive splitter for bag use

Thanks for the guide Derek, I'll certainly take a look at it soon. Larry I believe I understand what you are saying, I know this is pretty basic stuff to you all but I'm just getting into the higher end stuff, so I appreciate everyone answering. Just when I think I start to really get a grasp on this stuff something new comes along. So to check on my learning here, one "shark fin" antenna cannot feed both inputs on the same SRc, but it can feed one input on two separate SRc's.

Question about passive splitter for bag use

Now are you going into all of the receivers? The only thing I'm still a little confused about is if one antenna can feed multiple receivers.

Question about passive splitter for bag use

This all makes a lot more sense now. Thank you both for going further in depth. I'll go with the two way splitter and then just try to get the antenna up high to give a better line of sight (if you will) to the transmitter which will hopefully help with the signal we are getting.

Question about passive splitter for bag use

Understood, this is the set up I was thinking: Lectrosonics ZFSC41 with a PSC UHF Log Periodic Skeletal Antenna. Now based on your last comment there I guess this won't actually work because it's a 4 way splitter, which also answers my last questions about 1 antenna feeding into multiple SRc's, since the 4 way needs power I take it that won't work. I'm guessing this would work better for the splitter: Lectro ZSC24?

Question about passive splitter for bag use

So I just wanted to follow up here real quick and make sure I understand some of this correctly. My company has a little extra money to get some audio stuff and I was looking into getting some shark fins, as we've had a few issues with signal strength and range with out Lectro SSM's and SRc's (I'm guessing its the SSM since it can only output 50mW). I called Trew to get their input into the case and the person I spoke with told me that one part of the chain has to be active (i.e. either the antenna has to be active or the splitter), however what I'm gathering form this thread is that is not the case. I can put a passive antenna into a passive splitter and that will work just fine? The other questions I have is can 1 antenna feed 2 SRc's? They are A and B blocks respectively if that impacts anything. Again Trew told me that I should get two fins to have a larger coverage area but I don't know if we have the budget for that at this time. I'm really just looking for something to help us get a little stronger signal when we are a little too far from talent with the SSM. Thanks!

    TentacleSync E review

I get this every time now, and I go through the same steps to get it working. I used the Tentacle Sync E on a 4 day shoot last week, haven't seen any of the footage yet but it appeared to work the whole time. Starting post on the project tomorrow so I'll see if it actually worked or not then.

Yes! It does turn to green mode after this step.

    TentacleSync E review

I guess you could say that, however I really didn't see anywhere in the instructions that says you have to completely unplug the device from any cable after jamming but before plugging into the camera. I may play around with it a little more this week but have a big production the later half so gonna be a good test to see if it works. If not we will sync the old fashion way with audio and slate.

    TentacleSync E review

I was able to get it to work, I'll post my workflow if you will that I used to get it to work: 1) Turn on F8, to go timecode setting 2) Turn on Tentacle Sync E (short hold), plug into mixer TC output At this point the Tentacles seems to be synced with the mixer 3) Unplug Tentacle from F8 and from itself (I have to remove the 1/8" cable completely here, on the phone there is an error message saying it is not generating TC) 4) Plug 1/8" back in, error message goes away and we appear to be good 5) Plug into camera and verify we have sync there This sequence seems to work for me, not sure if I was doing something wrong or if I am doing anything wrong still but at least it appears to be working.

    TentacleSync E review

Thanks for reminding me, I forgot to mention the frame rate. On my F8 I had it set to 23.976 and the tentacle set to 23.98 (the camera was also set to 23.98). My researched told me that they are the same frame rate, 23.98 is just shorthand for 23.976. Now please correct me if I am wrong there. I held down the power switch until I saw a red flashing light then I released it and plugged it in and got the green light. I was unaware there were two different ways to turn it on, looking more into that now. I was reading the difference on an iPhone also.

    TentacleSync E review

So I got a Tentacle yesterday and was playing around with it today and seem to have run into a problem. I plugged in into the my Zoom F8 and tried to jam the TC into the Tentacle and it appeared to work. However upon looking a little closer at the app and the TC on the recorder the app was about 8-12 frames faster then my recorder. I tried various settings, INT Free Run, RTC, nothing seemed to get me a perfect sync. I then used the Tentacle and went TC into the F8 and that seemed to help, however I'm not sure how solid the F8 will hold that TC when I unplug it, which I did. I I then took the Tentacle and plugged it into our Blackmagic Ursa Mini Pro and a similar thing happened, the TC in the app was just a little off from what was being displayed on the camera. I'm wording if anyone has had any similar problems or if anyone has any idea what I'm doing wrong. I'm just going to assume it's me because everything I've seen about them are they work really well. Thank!

    Zoom H1n

I was wondering if anyone has used the new and improved Zoom H1n? I'm going on a trip in a little bit and was thinking about picking one up to bring with me to get random tone and sounds along the way. Anyone have experience with any other small and relatively cheap recorders? Thanks!
  15. I was just curious how important you all think the mix track is? I work for a small production company and have recently been thrust into being the PSM, which I am happy with as it is what I have wanted to do for a long time. Traditionally we used G3's into a Zoom F8 and recorded a L/R mix with the ISO's, but as the person who also does post audio I would normally through out the L/R mix and just mix with all the ISO's we recorded (this was also before I was the PSM myself and was more of a Grip). We recently were able to make a big purchase and completely upgrade our sound gear to include Lectro SRc's, SSM's with COS 11D along with a MKH50 to go along with our 416. I was able to also get the F8 control and found that the faders only effect the mix and the pots change the ISO's. Now that it is much easier to create a solid mix track with the faders I'm debating focusing more time on set to trying to get a solid mix. I'm curious your thoughts and how often is the mix track really used in the professional world? Thanks!

    ISO's vs. Mix Track

So having finally digested most of this thread there are some big take aways for me here. Split track recording sounds really interesting to me and I'm going to look into how to do that on my F8 and give it a try. The more surprising thing to me was that it sounds like recording lavs with PREfader. That is really surprising and I'm curious now if thats standard practice? Do you just gain stage on the transmitter and receiver then until you get a decent level?

    ISO's vs. Mix Track

I did a little more digging and apologize for asking a question that was already answered and had a long discussion here. That said I appreciate the replies. When I'm one manning it an boom-oping it I think it is hard to get a solid mix and focus on boom. Given the feedback here and on the other discussion I'll put much more time into creating a solid mix track so when I'm out in the world and people expect it I have plenty of practice, even if I don't like using myself (I like working with the iso's).
  18. Hey everyone, So I just upgraded from G3's to some Lectrosonic SSM's and SRc receivers, I went with the SREXT back plate to power my units. However, given this is the first piece of high end gear I've purchased I was unaware that the SREXT's included "power cable" only had connections at one end and had bare wiring on the other. I have a BDSv4U to power them off of a NP-1 battery, but I'm not entirely sure what to do about the power cable. I can't seem to find the correct connection for the BDS and want to make sure I get the right one before I go slapping on the wrong one. I just did a quick search on B&H and found these but I'm not 100% sure that it will work with the SRc receivers and the BDS. Any and all feedback is welcome here! Thanks!
  19. Hey guys, I'm pretty new here and have found everything on this site very informative and sometimes entertaining! That said I just wanted to throw up a little post to get a feel if there are any east coast mixers on here, particularly based in the VA area. I currently live and work for a small production company in VA but I'm looking to get more freelance work in the sound department. If anyone needs a utility or boom op in the general vicinity of Richmond or DC let me know! I also have family in Philadelphia so that trip is easy for me as well! Thanks, Evan

    Lectro Power Solution

I'm sure this has been talked about already on this site, but my searches haven't come up with much. I'm looking at getting a set of lectrosonics and I'm curious about power solutions people have used for their bags. I'm going to go with two duel receivers, so I'm wondering what the best method is to power them in my bag. Thanks!

    Lectro Power Solution

That for the replays! Much appreciated, I was wondering if any of you have ever used a distro unit like the remote audio BDS v4? I'll link to it below. I was also looking at the quad pack but I'm trying to see if there is a cheaper solution as well. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/522500-REG/Remote_Audio_BDSPACK_BDS_v3_Battery_Distribution.html I'm currently also looking into the SREXT or the SRAES plates. We use a zoom f8 and are currently trading in our G3's for some Lectro's so I'm trying to put together the best package as we speak.
