  1. I'm thinking of buying a couple of Zaxcom ZHD transmitters and a RX200 receiver. I would like to have the remote recording capability. Would anyone care to comment on their experience with this setup?

  7. Cos 11's take a beating. I have 3 that need repair; a bad connector, wire wind screen came off and a head pulled loose. What are your recommendations for places to send them in for repair?
  8. I several complete Lectrosonics IFB blocks for separate feeds to director, boom and utility. I have consistent problems with the 1/8" headphone connector on the R1A. You can not take it apart in the field and service the connector. Outside here in New Mexico there is pretty much a constant wind filled with dirt and dust. It works into these connectors and makes them noisy and intermittent and fail. You have to send the receiver into to be repaired. The connector is a sealed panel mount and has to be replaced. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution? With Respect

  11. Enthralling history for anybody interested in sound recording, I heard that Kudelski got into making custom spy and satellite communications equipment. He made so much more money than with manufacturing Nagras, so he moved on. Wasn't there a rumor out there that Nagra had an updated stereo analog machine about the size and weight of the IS that they had prototyped and were thinking of making. We all know that the analog recording will always have its special place in history. Too bad it can't be carried on. Look at what Kodak is doing to keep Film alive.
  12. It is my understanding from a mixer friend who has run more than 100 wireless at a time for political conventions and other huge shows that the advantage of a powered antenna is when you have really long cable runs. He was able to cover an entire convention hall with 2 shark fins mounted in the ceiling with hundreds on feet of antenna cable.
  13. Has anyone tried using an external SSD drive in an external reader writer to record to?

    Hide a user

I signed in, went to Manage Ignore Prefs, put in the members name, selected ignore posts, signature and messenger, saved the changes. The Members name is there with Hide under each selection but I still see him all over the board. Is he the moderator of the JWSound so you can't get rid of him?

  20. I use the Sennheiser MKE 2. I have a Tan and Black ready to go with a Lectrosonics 400 or 450 transmitter. Mixes well with both the Sennheiser MKH 50 and the Schoeps MK41. I had the MKE's from when I used them to replace Sony ECM 50's for wireless lavs. Still work great.
  21. I made this grip for my Denecke TS-3 slates. It is dedicated to Camera Asst. Kirk Bloom who inspired its making. The anti slip material was added by 2nd AC Dean Egan. It is 3/4" high and 1/2" wide. It also helps keep the slates from being turned off by mistake.

  24. Stop the Madness A couple of weeks ago I wrapped a week of reshoots on a Saturday morning. We started at 4pm Friday afternoon and went all night and shot a day scene on Saturday and finished around 8 am. This was after a week that started at 6 am Monday, you all know what I’m talking about. I loaded my gear in my truck and headed back to Santa Fe from the San Cristobal ranch. Not a long drive but there is one long open empty straightaway. In my drowsy state I noticed a car about 100 yards ahead of me suddenly go airborne. In my slow reacting mind I thought thats wierd why is that car flying. Then it flipped and came down on its roof with more force than any stunt I’ve ever seen. The whole thing exploded and slid across the road upside down into the oncoming lane. Thank God nothing was coming the other way, it would have hit them like a missile. I had to stop because of the debris in the road, and there were already two guys on the other side of the road, who had pulled over earlier and stopped there before all this happened. I tried to call 911 but couldn’t get a good connection so I slowly drove around the debris pulled over and got out. I was pretty jacked on adrenaline and said to myself they got to be really fucked up in that car. As I approached I noticed there were now 3 guys standing there. One was a crew member, I said who was in there, noticing the car was empty. He said I was. Fuck. He was OK except for a badly cut left arm that was injured when the windows blew out. The car did exactly what it was designed to do and came apart to absorb the impact. It also had all the new air bags which cushioned the crash even more. He had made it to the long straighaway and said himself it’s over and fell immediately to sleep. He must have awakened hit the breaks and turned the wheel at the same time launching himself into the air. A couple of weeks later on the TV series Longmire a Teamster Brother fell asleep at the wheel on the same east side of Santa Fe, rolled his truck over and died. Rest in Peace. I know many times when I lived in LA I drove home on Auto Pilot. Luckily there you are surrounded by cars and if you start to drift you may hit something long before you have the chance to really fuck yourself up. Here in NM those long empty straights are hypnotic and dangerous as hell. I personally have never stood up to a production and asked them to Stop the Madness. I did quit a TV series once because I couldn’t hold up to the long hours. All I can say is if I’m on a show and the crew decides to make a stand I’ll join them. I have proof now of what will happen to anyone of us, eventually.
