    Orca bags

Does anyone know where you can buy Orca bags? Or if you can buy them in the US? Nice NAB demo would like to have one since K-tek not available for 664.
  3. Dla rozluźnienia coś dla sympatyków głębi lasu - wzmacniacz wrażeń akustycznych, ptaki, żaby i dzięcioł w wersji hi-fi Na wyposażeniu mocny preparat odstraszający komary.
  4. When I started in Hollywood in the late 70's Lee Strosnider was the place to go for young people and students needing help. He always had some sort of solution to your predicament or problem. Many times we would get gear from him on Friday night, shoot all week end and return the gear on Monday morning for little or no charge. In the 80's when he moved his scene up to his house he was always around. You could call him virtually anytime day or night if you had an emergency and he would help. We got to be pretty good friends because I did a show in Indiana called "Hoosiers". He had a retirement property there and every time I saw him he talked about how he was going to be moving there; next year. I don't think he ever made it. I was really glad to see the articles written about him and his friend Austin by Jim Tanenbaum. They were unique and original characters. They will be missed and never replaced. Have a good journey to your next life. With deep respect and affection. David Brownlow
  5. Would like to see one for the 664, too. The Petrol is unfathomable, side access is complicated, you can't get to the CF card slots without removing the machine from the bag, cable access is rough, front compartments don't make sense, battery compartment is small with unclear cable paths, top flap has to be folded out of the way awkwardly, the bag won't stand up on its own, etc, etc. I would like to see a Youtube video of someone connecting up a Petrol bag to a 664, wires and batteries, then changing the CF card.
  6. He's one of the best, a real pillar of the Sound Community. Will think of him smiling, bubbling with enthusiasm and healthy.
  7. Sound Devices will announce new 888T; Eight full size XLR inputs, 8 - front panel meters, separate Slate Mic. 4pin XLR power jack. Larger case will allow for side or front panel Flash Card slot. Bigger case will also allow for better internal cooling and heat management. Single button push to Scene and Take entry. Upgrades designed for the Feature/TV mixer working on a cart.
  8. Excellent documentary on PBS American Masters last night on Jimi Hendrix. Great scenes with Sound Engineer Eddie Kramer at the mixing board soloing tracks and describing his mixes. Jimi Hendrix - Film: Jimi Hendrix: Hear My Train A Comin' http://www.pbs.org/wnet/americanmasters/
  9. Larry, I wouldn't use an antenna without that cable. I have a 25 and 50 footer, sometimes together. I think it makes as much difference as going from a 6 inch whip to a shark fin.
  10. I have been using the helical for over a year and would recommend it. I use it on a light stand riser on my cart, along with shark fin on a light weight light stand which I always extend out as close to the action as possible. I also use the low loss antenna cable from Lectro that my guys always complain about not being flexible enough for easy coiling. What I like about the helical is that if there is simultaneous action going on near or even behind me as well a wide or master further out in front of me the helical does a good job of pulling in signal from all directions.
  11. Check these carts out http://www.bigfootmobilecarts.com/
  12. I use almost exclusively Wireless Boom and Wireless Boom Monitoring with Lectro IFB’s. All the shows I have mixed the last number of years have been multi camera; a wide shot, close ups and coverage all done at once. The scenes can get spread out with lots of action going on where a Cable could get in the way. Since most of the show will end up being played on wires anyway the wireless boom makes sense. I use four headphone feeds; one to Comtek for the “Public Crowd” to listen to, an IFB for the Director and Script so I can talk directly to them, and two Boom feeds that I can send separate mixes to. That way I can give the Boom just the boom and the Utility just the wires. The Boom doesn’t hear the wireless mix and focuses just on the boom and the Utility can hear just the wires. If theres a problem with the wires they can hear and fix it, without being distracted by the Boom. I can also talk to them separately. As mentioned above they are also always listening to whats happening on the set in case they need to leave the set or be in another location. Another thing is my crew wears “In-ear” monitors. This is some what of a safety issue when working around Special Effects and animals being completely isolated can be dangerous. In-ear pieces have there own particular sound so having them listen to what I’m trying to mix may not be that helpful. I have been on single camera shows that were filmed in the traditional way of masters and coverage where a Cable would make sense. If I ever do one of those shows again I would certainly go back to the Duplex.
  13. I first saw connectors just like these made by Lee Strosnider in the late 70's.
  14. The magnets in the sticks stop working, you have to send it in for repair.
  15. Kevin Ward boomed "Whats Eating Gilbert Grape" for back in the early 1990's. It was in the days of two man crews so we spent a lot of time together. He couldn't have been a better companion. He was always calm and appropriate, had a very dry sense of humor, and tried to make everything go as smoothly as possible. Full of stories and ideas he had a natural engineers way about him that he got from his father. He loved his family and spoke of them often. We spent a beautiful fall in Austin Texas, had a great time going out hearing music and generally hanging around the bars on 6th street. He was one of the good ones, so long and my best to you and yours. With Respect and peace, David Brownlow
  16. I have had similar problems and it was the CF card, too. I also had problems with the LeCIe Rugged Ext HD I was using. After several shows of successful use it just started not the be recognized even after several re-formatings. So I switched to the G Mini on recommendations from users of this forum and so far haven't had a problem. I did have another problem on the last show I just wrapped when the machine just froze during recording. In 12 weeks it did it twice. Since I use the CL9 there is no way to have a separate back up machine running so we had to cut. Luckily the director was wearing headphones and when the audio died he called cut without much extra frustration or anxiety. I also don't plan to upgrade to version 3.0. The upgrades don't really offer any of the improvements I would like to hear.
  17. Is any body using a wireless duplex monitor and talk back system for the boom and utility, like the HME systems that camera dept. are using?
  18. Wow a momentous day indeed, a ripple in the force. I owe my career and a huge part of my life to him and his invention. He was not unlike Steve Jobs was to us now. He moved us all forward with his knowledge and skill. The story about him I heard from Carrolll Williams, one of the early importers of Nagra to the US, was that he was originally interested in robotics and robotic memory which lead him the memory storage and recording. His girl friend was a reporter for Swiss radio and needed a way to capture live interviews so he built a Audio recorder for her. When she took it out into the field all the other reporters wanted one, so Nagra was born. Please dive in here, but wasn’t one of his innovations or improvements that he solved Head Biasing. The record head has a high frequency signal applied to it that allowed for much flatter and phase coherent recording. Hence the quintessential and beautiful and Sound recording standard that we have to judge all other recording by. With Great Respect, Rest in peace in the trackless land.
