From small cart to bag cart.

I'm going to shorten a steel handtruck; my Pelican 1560 will be attached at the bottom, have a shelf for a small Pelican mic case, then a top shelf for the recorder bag. Putting quick fists on the back for my tripod and (eventually) boom. Planning to grab the angle grinder and start cutting tomorrow morning before it gets hot. It's supposed to hit 92/33 degrees, not great for wearing heavy clothes and leather gloves.

He doesn't come with me, since Sebastian doesn't "do" quiet. I drop him at dog daycare on my way to the job!

3d printed XLR caps, RX mount, and mic cases

You're all welcome! I put some notes in the Thingiverse description, but it's a simple print and should just work. The only concern would be if you're working in extremely high temperatures, then you might want to make them out of PETG. ABS might require design tweaks, since the plastic tends to shrink as it cools. I don't have PETG at the moment or a good setup for ABS, so PLA it is.

Interested to see what you come up with. I'm planning my own handtruck build, but it has to fit in my compact car and still leave room for the dog. A micro cart…

3d printed XLR caps, RX mount, and mic cases

I'd been considering it and decided to go for it. The files can be found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3049624. Let me know if you make them and have any problems or suggestions!

Thanks! They're made of Hatchbox PLA. I think I used my normal printer settings, so that'd be .175mm layer height.

Hi Ilari, I've put a small ziptie on the cable inside the cap. Yes, the plugs are just pushed in for now. I incorporated some ridges into the design to increase the friction: If I have any issues with them coming out I could glue them, but so far they stay in place unless I'm specifically trying to remove them.
  8. Decided to make some proper right angle short XLRs for my bag; I previously had just cut the dust boot off the Neutriks, which shaved about half an inch but was pretty ugly. After a couple design iterations I came up with this: It's a pretty good friction fit, and the inner part of the plug keeps the connector in place in the shell. They fit really well in my bag: I made two versions to dress the cable for right or left exit. The plug is also keyed to the shell so it won't rotate. Whipped up a riser to get my receiver out of the bag so I can see the display. I also printed the camera mount attached to the RX. Finally, I found a mic case someone designed and modified it to fit my preamps and capsules. Much easier to throw the mics in my bag now. I used some of that rubbery expanded foam shelf liner inside the mic cases to cushion the devices.

Perhaps @soundmanjohn can weigh in re: durability, he's been doing surround recording in the field for ages.

Mercedes Metris OR Chevrolet Express 3/4?

Sorry to be off topic, but I've always wanted to turn a Brinks armored car into a mobile truck: Impractical? Probably. But a guy can dream…

I really wish Izotope hadn't discontinued Alloy 2… it's my go-to processor. It still works but I fear it'll stop some day.
  12. Any chance of you making the STL files available (or for sale)? I'd love to try printing one, although I'd also have to design a grip.

    Show me your bag

I've only used the stock cable, but I'll try another one this weekend. Although between age and hearing loss I don't know if I'm the best judge of hiss these days…
