Sound Devices MixPre-3 vs Zoom F4

Today,Temperature reached 40 C(104 F) degree and all of work was canceled. Since I was bored, so I measured the phantom power in some my own recorders. It's insane to host the Olympic Games in this country. Rather, it seems ZOOM F4 is closer to reference. However, rather I like MixPre sound.

Sound Devices MixPre-3 vs Zoom F4

Yes I tried, and seems no problem in there as I mentioned earlier. If I worry about it, it's S/N rate and reproducibility of waveform, but for now there is no problem, I think. I made a recording for comparison in my kitchen. It's not a very clean file, Because I forgot to turn off the ventilator after making a breakfast. QTC40mp_mixpre.flac Recorded with SD MixPre-10T and OMNI mics. 1. Earthworks QTC40 with dummy head. 2. Primo EM173(DIYed FET Micpre/ binaural dummy head) - This microphone works fine with mixpre. Both microphone set to Trim+40 and Fader 0. Microphone capsules are generally in same position. Then align loudness 24.0 LKFS with iZotope RX. I called it has no particular problem.

Sound Devices MixPre-3 vs Zoom F4

I don't know they try mixpre. but actually Earthworks says QTC and Earthworks microphone needs 10mA. it's not voltage. ampere.

Sound Devices MixPre-3 vs Zoom F4

Earthworks microphone specifications always have 10mA current notation. It is not seen in other microphones. When asked about this, he recommended external phantom box like Core audio 2phant when use equipment with insufficient current. However, my own QTC40mp was working so good with SD MixPre-D, MixPre-10T,ZOOM H5 and ZOOM F4. Even if there is a problem in the S/N rate or reproducibility, it will be slight.

It's just Earthworks support centre said.

Sound Devices MixPre-3 vs Zoom F4

Yesterday, I ask mic preamp that enough ampere powering for QTC40 to Earthworks support. They said MixPre's preamp has not enough power. they recommended additional phantom box or ZOOM portable recorder.(H and F series) However, microphones that require 10 mA are also rare,There will be no problem with other microphones.

Wow!! I did not know to this quite powerful one. 80% of the task is over when press learn. and no occurrence chirpy tone. Latency is 882 samples, and CPU load is very light, so it seems to be good for live broadcasting.

    Zoom F8

I expect it personally. Can it feed line level signal with XLR? That is something to worry about.

Wow!! This is just what I wanted some years ago. and I found quite nice plugin suite. https://lesound.io/ some natural phenomena generator. http://tsugi-studio.com/web/en/products-quickaudio.html This is not an audio plug-in. It can display waveform in Windows Explorer like AudioEase Snapper.

    MixPre-10T Rec/Stop button (failed)

Ah, seems like a fun idea! Didn't see the second button at first so I was a bit confused. Will you keep it in a cart setup or in a bag? Yes, I'm going to put it in my bag. It didn't work with Mixpre-10T. However, as long as it is used with computer, this is sufficiently reliable. Dials and bending sensors etc. are also sold in the catalog. So I want to build controllers using them.
  16. Mixpre-10T's joystick controller often deviate. and it cannot be record and stop at appropriate timing. Other day,I found some arcade game button and lever sold at video game shop. https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=ja&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=ja&ie=UTF-8&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.tops-game.jp%2Fproducts%2Flist.php%3Fcategory_id%3D115&edit-text=&act=url and I tried to build HID button with adafruit trinket. Working so far so good in Windows and Macintosh. Although it is recognized as a generic HID device in Computers. But did not work with MixPre-10T. Seems there is USB-Host compatibility problem in Trinket. http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=ja&sl=ja&tl=en&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.switch-science.com%2Fcatalog%2F1501%2F I was disappointed just because I liked his compactness. I will try another board in the near.
  17. exactly. The manual is written with priority on using at outside of studio.

    North Korea microphone surplus.

It does politicians in my country too. Each microphone is connected to recorder of each broadcasting stations. (I think it is a shabby way) However, I only know Pyongyang Broadcasting for the North Korean broadcasting station. So I really do not know what to set for. If all the microphones are working, comb filter effect should occur.
  19. Hi. I am using SENNHEISER AMBEO for now. However, Characteristics and S/N ratio are not perfect. Is there quad-microphone that like Neumann KU100 sound character. Anyone have a recommend? During this time, I bought pair of BLUE HummingBird. Character is far from the Neumann KU100 but it has quite good S/N ratio and transient response. I might buy two more of this and operate those as Double-XY. Just like him.

    Need recommendation for Ambisonic microphone

Regarding that, I have recorded that compare for SD and ZOOM with EM173 EM173 is higher SPL EM172. Certainly the noise floor is very low. but the problem is sound character that is excessive high frequency. I am looking forward to details of RODE. and I will decide to live a life like a monk for the SPS 200 for a while. I want it very much.

I also think so. I think that reproducibility is better when there is a dummy head when dropping somethings to feet or when the airplane flying above the head. White entry model quieter than Freespace Pro. It using Primo EM172 capsule. SN rate is 80dB at 1kHz. (but I don't like em172's sound character so much) https://3diosound.com/products/free-space-xlr-binaural-microphone This mic capsule can be bought at micbooster.com Thank you. I want SPS 200 more and more.

    Need recommendation for Ambisonic microphone

Thanks, it is very interesting. SPS200's self noise seems 14dBA(IEC) I think this is pretty quiet because it is the same as a low price binaural microphone such as 3dio.
