  1. If I missed this comment in the thread I apologize. I just got my own Tentacle and love it. 2nd one coming soon. To address the issue of using the on board Tentacle mic for use on Pro cameras with XLR 48V phantom inputs, I think this would solve the problem: http://www.pro-sound.com/p/ambient-emp35-ph-48-voltselectret-converter-35-mm-jack-sennheiser-ew.html I haven't checked, but using the Tentacle on a Pro camera with TC input and wanting to send the internal Tentacle mic to the camera XLR Audio input may require a custom cable.
  2. What is the recommended wiring for cable from RCV to SD442 XLR in? I'm now using a 1/8 TS to XLR. Manual says that this is OK. The functional diagram in the manual makes me wonder if this is the best cable to use. Thoughts?
  3. Thoughts on this workflow. H4n, 2 iRig Pres, TC Buddy, adaptor cable to connect output of iRig Pres to H4n Ch1&2 (1/8" TRS), iDevice with Movie Slate App. Ch1 will have boom mic, Ch2 will record TC from TC Buddy. Ch 3&4 (rear XLRs) will have two lavs. iDevice, receiving TC via WIFI, wiil be attached to manual slate converting it to a smart slate. This all works well in theory and on the bench. I haven't worked in post with content using this method though. I use FCPX. Any thoughts on post workflow? I use a SD 744t and 552 mixer normally but I'll be traveling overseas and want to travel light as well not put my main audio kit at risk. Scott
  4. I wouldn't expect the Apple devices to free run accurately. I did expect them to read the TC accurately though when hardwired or connected wirelessly to my 744t.
  5. I'm experimenting with Timecode apps for my iPhone. To test the accuracy of the iPhone display I'm photographing my 744t display and my iPhone together at 1/500. I'm not happy with the results. Differences in frame rate is fluctuating between 5-6 frames, not just drifting in one direction. Here's my setup: iPhone adapter is http://store.vericorder.com/products/XLR-Adapter-Cable.html I tried it with a Shure A15LA line input adapter between my 744t and adapter cable, and directly. I also tried wireless with a Sennheiser G3 kit with similar results. Using the G3 gave me the ability to adjust levels going to the iPhone. I downloaded this app: http://ambient.de/produkte/ambient-recording/clockit-timecode.html This app also shows TC waveform. I first tried this (paid $$ for): http://www.movie-slate.com/ and was also unhappy with accuracy, which prompted me to try the Ambient app. I also noticed that I need a different level at which point the app starts reading the TC on the two apps. On the movie slate app I need to be several dB above the 85% level that they use to test the input. At lower levels the Ambient app will read the TC when the Movie Slate will not. Is anyone successfully using the iPhone or iPad for slating? Regards, Scott
  6. Thanks for all the replies. I found out yesterday that I'll be working with a Canon C300. Good info here too. http://www.usa.canon.com/CUSA/assets/app/pdf/cinema_eos/EOS_C300_Best_Practices_Canon_USA.pdf
  7. There is no 23.98 framerate in options on my Sound Devices 744t, only 23.976. When I'm told that 23.98 is required on a shoot, can I be assured that the above rates are the same. 23.98 is just a rounding off of 23.976. I read on-line that 23.976 can cause some issues with certain software in post where 23.98 is the requested framerate. Scott
