Building a Binaural Headset-mount for DPA 4060 Lavs?
Rick Reineke replied to D Clay Audio's topic in Equipment
Sennheiser made a NB-2 "Headset Adapter" to use with y'own lav mic. I do not know if it is still available. -
+1, Redundancy.

DPA 4055 Kick Drum Microphone for a very high SPL sound recording?
Rick Reineke replied to Masaki Hatsui's topic in Equipment
For high SPL sources, I use a Sennheiser 421, I also have a Shure Beta 91a, but I have never used it on anything other than a kick. The Phantom Powered Beta 91 is a half-cardioid boundary mic. SM57s can handle high SPLs as well. I have a few of them for snare and guitar amps and as a podium/lectern mic. I am sure the DPA 4055 sounds good, It's a little pricey for occasional use and I already have the above. -
Generally, bias current supplied by an XLR Phantom Power adapter/converter/or battery in very low, so a AA cell should last a long, long time. current draw is usually disconnected when it is unplugged. I have TA5 (Lectro) inline XLR power/converter/adapter with a LR44 button cell that lasted for years.. and then some.

btw, I also use AATranslater for an occasion conversion which usually works relatively good.

+11 AAF has always been problematic for me going x-app and platform. OMF worked 90% of the time. The other 10% was pilot error (export) by the video post editor. Unfortunately most NLEs dropped the OMF export option, and convertions to OMF or other compatible format is hit and miss.

AA Battery Eliminator for Sennheiser G3/EW-D SK Transmitter?
Rick Reineke replied to D Clay Audio's topic in Equipment
Correct. Tip= Mic, Ring= Line (though a true +4dB nominal feed is a little to hot for the 100 series SK Tx and will need some external attenuation. -
600 ohms headset to use with Zaxcom recorders?
Rick Reineke replied to Ugarte Sound's topic in Equipment
I had a set of 600 ohm AKG K240 headphones. The HP volume was adequate on my 302 but not on many other devices. I do not know about the Nova or the HP amp specs. -
Cable tester you like? Bonus points for HDMI & USB
Rick Reineke replied to Jim Feeley's topic in Equipment
I built a small simple XLR cable tester about 20 or more years ago with spare parts and a few low cost items from a brick & mortar) Radio Shack (RIP) . If the cable is good , the LED illuminates, if not, it is taken out of service for future repair. It can also test other balanced audio cables with pertinent adapters. It a has a switching transistor, a diode, one or two resistors, a LED and a 9V battery. It is about 2.5 x 2 inches. -

The (made in NJ) OST (Oscar SoundTech) 801/802 lavs are almost identical to the Tram TR50 for $110 (usd). A choice of (soldered on plugs) is another $20-30 as I recall. The flatter response (4mm) TL-40 is the same $. The OST mics I have, had held up as good as most others (all kinds of abuse and weather).

They are mostly an ornamental prop, but word has it most are actually plugged in if needed for some reason. I am not sure if Larry King's iconic RCA 77DX was connected though.

Safe to use Large Condenser studio Mics Outdoors?
Rick Reineke replied to Kevin Sinnott's topic in Equipment
not to go more off-topic but.. "In electronics, a condenser is also term for a capacitor, which stores energy" 'Capacitor microphone' was often used in the audio electronics books I read (years ago). .. -
Cleaning Canare Microphone cables - products and methods
Rick Reineke replied to PCMsoundie's topic in General Discussion
Same here, Otherwise, I've never had any problems with Armorall when applied judiciously. I have a blue Canare that has been in regular use since 1990 even through-out my ENG days. It is slightly faded compared to my newer Canare's but still works. A bent Neutrik X-Series XLR barrel was replaced once though with new boots at both ends. -
Free VST AI Noise removal Plugin - kinda useful
Rick Reineke replied to Olle Sjostrom's topic in The Post Place
I recently received an email from Supertone stating the Goyo beta would no longer function, naturally I had to see for myself and got the same pop-up mesage as Vincent R. $69usd is a good price, but I already have Steinberg's SpectraLayers Pro. -
Thanks RadoStefanov. Along the same lines. I still use a fishing fly rod case for my K-Tec boom pole

Rick Reineke replied to Olle Sjostrom's topic in The Post Place
FWIW, the Goyo beta installer I have is here. https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=XZU6AoVZCkONbL79zPBYchSO1kHRQbztpuz7 -
Free VST AI Noise removal Plugin - kinda useful
Rick Reineke replied to Olle Sjostrom's topic in The Post Place
I will look/see if I still have the installer for the beta version. Activation may not be possible though if it is necessary. -
It appears on the Voco website the pro IFB Tx (transmitter) is for lav or headset type mics. Most of which are unbalanced mic level, so you will need to get a custom balanced to unbalanced adapter cable to use the MixPre 10's balanced outputs. I am not sure if the MixPre 10 can output mic level on the balanced main outputs, which are typically (+4dB) line level. The MixPre 10 TA3 aux outputs are a better option. In addition, the Voco pro IFB Tx will likely have bias current present (aka, plugin pwr), which may generate noise, so a blocking capacitor in the custom cable may be necessary using either the MixPre's main or aux outputs. If you cannot make the custom cable yo'self, have one made by the 'usual suspect' shops.

COS-11D 3.5mm for Sennheiser Not Locking on SK-500 G4
Rick Reineke replied to mtski13's topic in Equipment
Alternately Markertek.com has the Switchcraft, Sennheiser and TecNec M-3.5 S locking plugs in stock. I have been using the lower priced (all metal) 'TecNec' for years w/o problems on numerous lav mics, Trams, MKE-2, B6, COS11. The TecNec's locking ring also retracts enough to use the plug on conventional non-locking input jacks as well -
azden fmx-42a External battery to power my Azden FMX-42a, is possible¿?
Rick Reineke replied to Dan Savio's topic in Equipment
I picked up a 12.6 volt, 7 Ah lion battery on eBay for less than $30 usd (including slow charger), soldered on the Hirose plug which powered my 302 all day and then some . It is shorter than a NP-1 and I have had the battery for 8+ years and it still works.. but I only used it occasionally. -
+1 I use a standard foam windscreen along with the mic's HP filter which is usually adequate for interiors. if that is not enough, I have a Windtech US-2 Ultra Screen . I usually do not use the 4053 or my other SDC mics for exteriors.

you can't clip with 32-bit float. You can clip the audio prior to the converter though and it will still be clipped regardless of FP32.

Help regarding the direct outs on a Cooper 106
Rick Reineke replied to Axel Mishael's topic in Equipment
I am not sure about the Cooper, but on many audio mixers, the 1/4" (unbalanced) insert jack is normalled, so the plug is inserted only half-way in so it does not break the connection to the output busses. however, inserting the plug only half way in, can cause it to fall out if mixer or cable is moved around. For the cables I use for direct outs from the insert jack, I made custom cables where the the tip and ring of the plug are bridged so it can be fully inserted.
