  1. It looks like another tough day at work Michael, new view man
  2. when I buy my 788T, I will be stoked to use that feature on all my one man band gigs.
  3. Here's Phil at his board during another Silicon Valley shoot. This gig was tough because it was a live event and the rooms we were shooting in was a RF hot spot. Lucky once we had everyone wired I just had to boom from a ladder for 2 hours.
  4. My pole hasn't shown up yet and I ordered it in March...
  5. Thanks guys, these are some interesting technological stories of the legend Nelson Stoll. Rich, the figure 8 pattern idea is rad, but I've never considered the 5 capsule as useable for film and TV. Hmmm...
  6. Hey All, I'm planning on becoming a owner of a pair of CMC 6 or 5 mic's and will probably buy the MK41 capsules for sure. Because of the Docs and ad-libbed narrative work I do, I wanted to see what other capsules are being used. From my research I'm leaning towards the MK4 or MK22 for their wider patterns, any preferences?
  7. These post remind me of when I day played for my friend on this low budget feature shooting on FILM!!! The first shot of the day we're on the streets of Berkeley CA where noise is around 80% of the time. With two difference jets flying over head, a garbage truck around the corner, and a dumpster being dragged out of the alley, the AD yells at me from across the street 'Roll sound!' Me 'hold for sound' AD 'WHY' At this point I just look up at the Jets flying over head and then back at the AD who decided it was a good idea to run at me get in my face. AD 'Why aren't you rolling?!" Me 'didn't you notice the jets, garbage truck, and dumpster being dragged down the street... give it a minute.' The AD looked like he was just blessed with the sense of hearing and stepped back from me, the rest of the day went pretty smooth. This doesn't always happen, but when it does I'm stoked. On other gigs when the 3 strikes is up, I tell them I wouldn't use the track in my movie, but its not so sound speeds... good times Keenan
  8. I bought this Rock-n-Roll cart at Coffey Sound as a last minute option to reply my first sound cart for a feature I was starting the next day. Through the entire shoot my boom op. or I had to carry my Boom Poles everywhere, lame. With a little work and thought I built this boom pole holder modification on and love it, because my Subaru isn't the biggest car in the world I kept the folding option on the cart still functional with the help of a quick release bolt from a mountain bike seat. 9. Hey Matt, I use the IPower 520mAh Lithiun Ion 9V batteries for my Lectro UM400a and UM200c. With a full charge the UM400a gets about 6 to7 hours of running time and the UM200c gets about 4 to 5 hours. I can't say those are exact numbers but it is nice not lugging around boxes of Duracell Procell 9V's any more. Keenan
  10. So I made some headway with Tony, one of the creators from ScriptE systems, at this point their software isn't compatible with the framerate 23.98 which we were using. He said the update should be out soon and also noted that the computer will need to be rejammed about every two hours to keep in sync. I think I'd rather leave a Lockit box with the script sup and call it a day.
  11. Totally Alan, I already had a G2 system set for her TC feed, but the connection was too glitchy for her liking. For this shoot they were using the Red so my Lockit box was already in use. In my experience most script sups still use the old fashion pen and paper to keep their notes and logs, this program is new to me and I was very baffled when I heard it could hold TC sync while not keeping a continuous connection to a TC generator. Other than the TC error it maybe a great tool for script sups.
  12. The correct term I meant is synced not locked, thanks Phil.
  13. Yeah I think the whole issue is the combination of the cable and her computer, they don't work together. The 13.3 Mac Book Pro model uses the headphone/microphone 3.5mm jack (TRRS), and the cable that she is trying to use is a 3.5mm (TRS). The cable is built correctly for any other size Mac Book Pro, but her computer needs the special (TRRS) so the TC is on the second ring. My signal could have been a little too hot so maybe thats why the programs TC window would show (00:00:00:00) in between the correct TC. That could be why it doesn't hold TC. How long are you plugged in for the TC to keep locked?
  14. I'm working with a script supervisor on a short film who asked me to jam her laptop with my timecode. I said, "sweet let me grab that cable." I jammed timecode to her ScriptE software using a iDevices cable (3.5mm 4 conductor TRRS Male to 3-Pin XLR Female Microphone Input Jack) because the new Mac Book has the same headphone/microphone jack as an iPhone. Both her's and my other cables didn't show timecode at all (1/4 inch female to 3.5 stereo jack). With my iDevice cable, timecode would show up when I was plugged into her Mac, but her timecode window would show zeros across the board every few seconds and once I'm unplugged her timecode is lost. I didn't want to always be plugged into because I'm operating as a one man sound army so I tried to send her timecode through a set of my G2s. Of course the timecode shows up but was very intermittent so her timecode window would show zeros about a 1/3 of the time. WHAT GIVES! I am hoping this is just a glitch we see all too often in new software these days. Has anyone jammed timecode to this software before successfully? or jammed to an older version successfully? I'm running the usual timecode (23.98), she is running version 1.5.7. I couldn't find where the timecode setting were in the ScriptE software either. Any clues? her software http://www.scriptesystems.com/ScriptSupervisingSoftware.aspx my cable that worked when plugged in http://www.kvconnection.com/product-p/km-iphone-micx-a22.htm
  15. Today I began a new gig with the camera operator blind-siding me with his nano flash attached to his PMW-F3. I was a little bewildered when he told me I couldn't jam TC to it. The unit itself has a internal TC display that looked pretty close to time of day so I did an eye-balled jam with my 744T and the Nano Flash both set to 23.98. I was sending the camera a wireless feed and recording on my system too, but noticed after 5 hours the nano flashes TC was ahead 30 seconds. At this point I just try to jam more often when the time presented itself.... which was never. I think I will dedicate channel 2 for the TC signal from my recorder and warn the editor before they get the footage. Playback won't be pretty, but at least the editor could sync it up with ease. Has anyone had a successful way of TC jamming with the nano flash?
  16. Now thats what I call team work!
  17. The Fusion 10 is awesome, thats the next recorder I buy
  18. This is Thereas Radka and me on a documentary shoot for Amnesty International, got to use the Fusion 10 on this one which is a bad ass machine, but I still love my 744T. The second pic is the break room during lunch.
  19. This is me booming a short film the past 5 days; rain or shine.
  20. yep, Neil just got back to me, Dennis Towns is mixing this one
  21. It maybe Mark Weingarten or Dennis Towns... but thats just what imdb said. It maybe as Alan said one of our local gurus like Fred Runner or Nelson Stoll, I know Neil Riha is working on it as a boom Op. or 3rd.
  22. agree with Pat, "Pilates and yoga great for the body strength and limber." get well soon
  23. great, Thanks Whitney, glad to know it has been done with success
  24. Hi Andy, I'm planning my strategy out for my friend's new production company and had the same idea as you. In the past I would attach a time-code box to the Red and it would keep in sync. On this shoot the my friends client doesn't want to pay the extra money for time-code slate and or box. The DP and I always think more is better so I will be sending audio to the camera, and for my own amusement I was going to feed the Red time-code from my 744T using my Limo to XLR in & out cables. If I keep connected during the shoot will the Red behave? Keenan
