  1. Trew Audio build and sold those cart for awhile he has one and so does Whit Norris. Also Paul have you done any major redesign and how has the cart been working for you
  2. I have the $12.00 one that most every walmart or bestbuy has works great with all my cards usb 2.0 very fast had it for 3 years never an issue.
  3. In my market (South East) North FL, Ga and Sc: Everything is a one man band sort of work. I mostly do News and Reality tv so I just declared myself a mixer almost 7 years ago and did some student films and low budget stuff then got my 1st paying gig on a short lived Style Network show and got my butt kicked because I had cheap gear and no idea what do to. After that I read everything I could and picked the brain of anyone I worked with. I get excited everytime I do a multi camera show with others mixer because I always learn something new. Last year I did a job with Paul Graff and I learned more about lav mic hiding in 5 min than I would have ever learned on my own. On the show I am currently working on the D.p/Main Camera Operator asked me if his camera assist could boom a few times if possible to help him learn the flow of some of the scenes we shoot and the rhythm as well to make him a better camera operator. I told him I didn't think it was a good idea since we move so fast and everyone is on a lav, but I thought it was a good idea. So I think being a boom op or at least working as a boom op for alittle while because it can teach you more about the whole film making process than anything else
  4. I work in the reality world where everything is abused beat up and torn up on a regular basis. I expect during a season a certain amount of loss and damage by production. Specifically to Comtek headphones, Comteks, Lav microphones and antennas' in that order. On the show I am currently working on I have switch to ear bud style headphones for the producers because in the first week of production they broke 4 pairs of normal headphones by stepping on them, removing them between locations and forcing them in there purses between locations or seating on them. The ear buds have lasted a bit longer but still suffers from being dragged on the ground or dropped into toilets and puddles. Fortunately the producer understand they are tough on the headphones and haven't had an issue with me sending our P.A to buy more. The comteks themselves haven't faired much better though one, which was newly purchased about 6 months ago has already gone back for repair twice due to a trip into a pool then after returning from repair the producer told me "It was acting funny" since we were chasing our talent I gave her the spare and just put it aside till wrap. Well it had water in the battery compartment right after we had taken a bathroom break. So I can only assume it took a dip in the toilet hopefully before it was used. It seemed to work after drying out but was draining batteries quickly (Back for repair again). On reality shows I try to only use Countryman EMW lav's since I find them to be the most robust and they are cheap compared to cos-11 or B6's. Despite the talents best efforts I haven't had one destroyed beyond repair yet just. When I bid a job I figure 1-2% of my earning on gear rental will be spend on Loss or Damage or repair. I am still under that amount for this job so I consider myself lucky. I haven't had any big ticket items (Zaxcom hops or talent tx) get damaged so I consider myself lucky and while some of this stuff is a pain in the *** I am still earning a living and still look at it as a cost of doing business.
  5. I just wanted to thank countryman for great service. I had a B6 that was a month out of warranty that stopped working due to a failure in the microphone head itself. I sent it in anyways for service seeing if anything could be done within 1 week I received a brand new one with a thank you for being a good customer only in the cable company was as good thanks.
  6. I am with Scott SQN 5s or 442. Another option which I think is the best for fast pace shows that need more than 4 channels is (2) 302 mixers linked together very light and good.
  7. See this Lectro FAQ regarding water http://www.lectrosonics.com/faq/faq1byref.php?id=23 You may consider renting MM400 tx, which are water proof
  8. I use YSI almost everyday on my current show at least 100 files sent in the last 6 months. I have never had it screw up yet or freeze. I also love that it has a 1-800 number for support if someone on the other end has an issue downloading it
  9. It does record to a CF Card like the rest of them. I just can't communicate correctly tonight. I wish it had two CF slots for mirroring though I love mine and have seen the greatest ROI on this machine
  10. I am completely wireless now including my boompole so I rarely ever get a cable beat up. The only time I cable anymore is for sitdown interviews with my boom on a C-Stand. I have had some Trew Audio cables for many years and never had any issue with one yet. But good to know about guitar center
  11. For the current show I am working on post production is always behind and wanting new voice overs. So I suggested I could record them with my Tascam Hd-P2 Recorder and send them Via You send it. Everyone acted like this is the greatest invention ever even though I have send transcription this way for a long time. I am just curious how many of you record voice over in the field like this and upload it. I am happy to get the extra rent every time I use the hard disk Recorder along with my "Upload Fee" for renaming and dumping the audio. I just want to know how many of you do this. This is a pretty big company with many shows and I have been told I am the only person who has ever done this for them.
  12. Whitney Ince South East USA South FL (West Palm Beach- Miami) Most of Georgia Most of South Carolina 561-212-1443 Whitney@prolocationsound.com
  13. If it is a multi day gig I usually give director or field producer a new set of cans. I replace my other client headsets fairly often though as they get beat up often in the docudrama and reality world
  14. No love lost from me either. After seeing "Who Needs Sleep" I liked him even less
  15. I agree with Rob 100 percent I rented a Alphamix before buying my 302 and 442 and the headphone volume is to low and I also find the pre amps to add noise. Sound Devices customer service is great too when I had a issue with my 302 mixer after I bought it they fixed it for free and quickly. Just buy the 442 it will quickly pay for itself
  16. It could also be the sneaky 12v-48 Phantom power switch on my 442 I hit it the other day and it added all kinds of noise to my recording
  17. Robert, The labor rate is high so at least for me it is worth it for me to do a NBC news job

  21. What do most of you have the output of your zaxcom tx (Older Black Model) set to I have my right channel at 26 and left at 24 I am going into a Sony 700A and just want to make sure I am setting a good level
  22. Wayne, It is the same for me I was booked most of March and April. Then only worked 5 days in May and now in June I am booked 16 days. But I enjoy my time off so it is ok.
  23. I would invest in other things before buying or building a breakaway snake. I would start saving for a Sound Devices 302 mixer. I was in your place about 5 years ago just save, save, save and buy what you can
