  1. One addendum: The original HiFi 650 that I have is now known as the HiFi 700. Eric
  2. My 650's came with a 15' cord. I cut out 11 feet from the middle. The standard termination on mine is the same as the 7506, 1/8" with screw on 1/4". I also added a mounting stud on the left ear piece to hold a Shure WS20 headset mic for PL & slating. Eric
  3. I think I might have been one the first Ultrasone adopters, going on 2+ years now. They do take a while to get used to as you you have to relearn how to  listen and evaluate what you're hearing after years of 7506's. As Jeff and others have said, they do sound closer to what you'll hear on good monitor speakers and that I believe is very important. My frame of reference is my home system that uses a 275wpc power amp to drive a pair of 6' tall Magnapan speakers that have exceptional transient response, midrange detail and are very neutral sounding. I've played back tracks that I've done on that system and the Ultras come very close to matching the sound of the Maggies.  Comparing the Ultras to the 7506's I find that the Ultras are not as compressed sounding as the Sonys, offer more detail and less fatiguing to listen to. Obviously they're not for everyone but I love mine and have put the venerable 7506's on the shelf. Eric
  4. Thanks for the clarifacation Glenn. Eric
  5. Glenn, Please clarify, what happens if the encryption function is not enabled? Eric
  6. Telling the shooter how to light a setup is fine as long as you're ok with him telling you how to record the sound. What's fair is fair. Eric
  7. Nice idea but you're at the mercy of the weather. If you could use a solar panel to charge your system or keep it running that's fine but what are you going to do on a cloudy day, indoors or on a night shoot? Eric
  8. <g> means grin and schrieb is the German word for write. Capish? ;-)) Eric
  9. It is sort of like that phrase "guns don't shoot people ... people shoot people" (although politically I support the efforts to make gun manufacturers responsible for much of the consequences of the use of guns, these consequences are far graver. More on this later. Regards, Jeff Wexler<<<<<<<<<<<< Really? Then one can only hope that you have the same attitude towards the auto makers whose products cause the death of more people than firearms do. Fortunately almost every court in the country has thrown out law suits against firearm makers for making a dangerous product. Eric
  10. I think the real question is how often do you use the PD4? If the answer is once or twice a year than sell it. While we know that DAT is a dying format there are markets where it's still accepted because in most cases the client doesn't care or have a preference. Eric
  11. You're dealing with an insecure person. His last minute rush jobs are caused by his inability to make a decision and his hand is forced by the clock ticking. Sadly you can't win this one for losing. Eric
  12. Good health, good fortune & peace to all. Eric
  13. Until you can learn to spell Christmas correctly you'll most likely have a problem. Eric
  14. Then email the secret word to me and I'll post it. I won't tell, I promise;-) Eric
  15. Well Jeff could post his password and the problem would be solved. Eric
  16. Aside from the obvious "The inmates are running the asylum" it does seem that there's no one in charge of insuring that the set is quiet during a take. Micks opening line is spot on. Eric
  17. Uummm, not the same guy. Eric
  18. "There's no business like show business......;-))" Eric
  19. Both of those packages are good but over kill. Get the 302, a Sanken CS3e, the K-tek pole & softie, 2 sets of Lectro wireless (used is ok) with Countryman EMW lavs, headphones, cables, etc. Look at the used gear listings for other support gear to save money. Eric
  20. You do know that on the 442 you can increase your over all levels by taking the master fader out of the 12 o'clock detent position and turning it to the right. Their is no rule that says the master must stay in the detent position. Eric
  21. 442 input limiters are +18dBu threshold, 20:1 ratio. 1mS attack, 200mS release. Output limiters +4dBu to +20dBu in 1db steps. 20:1 ratio, 1mS attack, 200mS release. Eric ps to Silly Curley; read page 15 in the 442 users manual.
  22. I would assume that the PFL switch or circuit is being used for setting correct gain staging on the 442 & 302. Eric
  23. Sometimes if you're not sure of the framing and time is short use a lav and a boom and send split tracks to the camera. Be sure to indicate whats where, i.e. boom on 1, lav on 2. Don't be surprised if the lav track is used over the boom track in the final cut. A lot of producers prefer it because it sounds like television. Eric
