  1. There might be a problem this year as the Trap Club might be closing because of issues with Clark County and a new facility being opened by the city. I'll check with the club there and get an update. Anyone else want to come out to shoot some trap with us on Wednesday nite April 16th? We can have Jeff Wexlers surprise birthday party there. Eric
  2. It's time to think about the NAB convention and the (RAMPS) sound mixers party on Tuesday night April 15th at Fireflys. Looking to get a semi-official head count for the party. Add your name even if you only think you might make it. Thanks, Eric
  3. Most major markets have some kind of production guide that lists services, crew, production companys, etc. An intro letter with a very brief outline of your experience is a good way to break the ice with potential employers. Follow up in about 10 days with a phone call to the person you sent the letter to. You're going to have to knock on a lot of doors before someone answers. Now if you're like me, you call every sound guy in your area and offer your services as a backup mixer if he gets double booked, gets sick, etc, etc. You WILL work for the rate offered, you will NOT give the client your business card and you will NOT try to steal the client away. 4. If you check you'll see that most Lectro tx's are 50mw. More than enough for 98% of any application. Eric
  5. The poll results are as expected with the majority being in the top rate tier as far as expectations go. A more interesting poll would be "how much do you really work for?" Eric
  6. In other words: " A lack of planning on your part does not constitute a crisis on my part." Eric
  7. Try putting the B6 under a shirt button thru the button hole and tape the cable on the backside of the shirt. Eric
  8. Are you going to use a lav? That would seem to be the easiest to mount with a piece of gaffers tape. BTW, what will the mic be feeding? Eric
  9. Don't be foolish. Explain to your client the need for backup gear and rent a backup mic, mixer and whatever other essential gear you might need. Eric
  10. You might be better off using an M/S pair, single M/S stereo mic or a cardioid pair for X/Y stereo. Eric
  11. ok, what's the question? Eric
  12. www.craigslist.com then select the state and city. Look under the jobs heading for "tv/film/video" Eric
  13. For a fact I know of mixers in Chicago, Baltimore, Seattle and here in the Ft. Lauderdale/Miami area that never do features or episodic tv. There are ENG, EFP, corporate, infomercials, m-vids, local spots, etc. If you're in one of the major markets then you're a small fish in a big pond but if you're in a 2nd or 3rd tier market then you're a big fish in a small pond. FWIW, I answered an ad for a sound mixer on "Craigs List" about 6 weeks ago and it's turned into a 3 year (40+ shooting days a year) job at a very nice rate + travel days. Eric
  14. For those of us who don't depend on features, episodic shows, etc, there's more than enough 1-3 day, day player jobs around. Eric
  15. While a funny story, those coordinates would put the sceanario out over the north Atlantic. Eric
  16. 8050 is $1299 msrp. Less than an MKH 50 by about $100 I believe. Eric
  17. I'd like to know how it compares to the MKH 50. Eric
  18. A take off on the old lawyers joke: Two producers see a beautiful girl and one says " I'd like to screw her", the other asks, "out of what? Eric
  19. Does anyone know if My Fair Lady was in fact the first film to use wireless technology? What problems would they have encountered? Large transmitter? Mic head? Anyone have any pictures or maybe own original equipment? Is purple difficult to read? Doug <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< I recall at a recent NAB show that one wireless maker, Swintek or Vega , claimed that their wireless was the first to be used in a feature. It was "Mutiny On the Bounty" with Marlon Brando. Eric

  21. Perhaps not in the feature film world but in my world of spots, infomercials, interviews and other short form projects, etc, yes indeed. The difference I believe is that production companys shoot many projects during the year and are always looking for backup crew. Eric
  22. For me I just look for the open envelopes. Just don't go changing the style/format again. It's taken a while to get used to this one. It ain't broke, don't fix it. Eric
  23. Who knows. In 25 years there might be a market for a retrospective collection of films that Jeff Wexler mixed. Think of the residuals ;-)) Eric
  24. Wouldn't the PB unit lock to the 44.1 sr of the track and if not, why didn't it ? Eric
  25. Thanks ( I think ) that was painful to say the least. Eric
