  1. no native manual audio mode on the 550. only with magic lantern. what was that thing about manuals?
  2. can the camera returns be sensibly used only with receivers that output line level? Will the levels be too low on say Senn 100 G3s (I know that also depends on the mics, I will use hot ones OST TL40)?
  3. I use standard small condenser foams for 2.50 Euros on my Oktavas. They state 21 to 26 mm. Foams actually stick better to the Oktava than any other short mic I find, since the front part of the capsule is fatter than the body. That kind of secures the foam. For more info on the Oktava mics do a search, there's quite an extensive thread about them.
  4. I often find it pretentious and almost ridiculous to see half hidden lavs on talk shows. There's this soccer discussion round here on German TV every Sunday morning where about 5 guys sit in their chairs and talk. Sometimes the lavs are visibvle but other times the lavs are sort of hidden in their tie knots but stick half out, probably to avoid rustle. Now what is that? A joke? You can see it's a studio situation, there are cameras in frame from time to time, and then they try to hide the lavs in the most half-assed way possible. I mean, if you wanna practice hiding lavs to be prepared for in case Hollywood calls then do it on your girlfriend, and not pretend that a talk show is a feature film.
  5. Is the "starts shipping in three months" statement/rumor official? And is that international?
  6. as long as they make sure eventually I get a working microphone (which they did) the low price justifies a lot...
  7. Whatever happened to Squash??? Nobody seems to do that anymore do they?
  8. I have to say that, same as the old connector, they screwed the new one so tight that it's not possible to open it without causing damage. Because it's quite hot I put -30 dB in the Tx.
  9. I got my replacement TL-40 today. My original TL-40 didn't connect well to my SK100 G3 Tx. OST use the TRS plugs by Remote Audio now and these work like a charm, so this looks like this issue is solved. Great customer service and the sound is great, too!
  10. thanks for your answers Jack! one more thing - am I right in assuming that the built in transceiver will only work with Zaxcom wireless equipment?
  11. in terms of sound or... equipment? Probably the latter. I doubt most people will actually notice a difference in quality of sound when you've used an Oktava instead of a Schoeps.
  12. sorry for maybe not getting it - is the input trim only accessible via the display? - in other words: does it make sense to run this one standalone when I record ISOs and a mix track (for which I would change levels while recording)?
  13. I meant where do I set/ride the gain of the recording channels when I use the rotary faders for mixing the mix track?
  14. I'm wondering considering buying a Nomad 8 instead of a 788T+CL8. I'm wondering what the workflow is like for recording ISOs + a mix track. I mean, how do I switch the faders pre/post? Is there a button or does one have to use the menu? I've never touched a Zaxcom unit before, so I don't know how to do that on a Fusion or Deva.
  15. oops. too bad. So that's why y'all got X-Minis...
  16. Nice. Is that the reaction to that Superlux Taiwan MixPre knock off...?
  17. try and get your hands on a Wavemaster Mobi. Cheap as the X-Mini but supposed to sound much better.
  18. probably from the same people who make the cheap sennheiser knock off zeppelins that are in the pictures. Judging from the quality of those I wouldn't spend 125 $ for that boom pole, instead get a Rode aluminum for less, or the cheap K-Tek.
  19. I am getting the sneaking suspicion that Sennheiser, selling both wireless transmitters/receivers and quality microphones for wireless, are not that interested in people using their systems with non-Sennheiser microphones. Based on the reports in this threads and elsewhere, apparently some Sennheiser Txs (newer G3s?) don't work well or at all with the plugs OST (and others?) use. Also, Rode had to revise their Micon connector for Sennheiser as it the locking mechanism didn't work with some (again, newer G3?) models. Just speculating...
  20. I'm wondering will this thing "just" be the competitor for the 552 etc. or can it play in a league with a 788T too?
  21. don't have any numbers, but the 802 is definitely not as hot as the TL-40.
  22. Here's an update to my problem: I couldn't get the barrel off the connector with all my force and pliers. I damaged the plug in the process. Someone took his job very serious tightening that connector. Here's what OST wrote me, of course they offered to replace the mic: "Hi Chris, We are going to switch with TRS plug to another vendor which seems to have better mechanical tolerance." I'll report back here once I get the mic. Thanks for your help so far.
  23. I've got an old set of drums sitting in my basement that I will play once in a while when I can sneak away from my wife and kids (which is not too often). I played the drums in two bands until about three years ago, which was great fun, even though I'm not a learned drummer and play off beat a lot Actually I can't wait to play with some cool folks but it's hard to find them when you have a job and family... here's one http://www.myspace.com/thenyquistduo all improvised material recorded on a stereo set of two Oktava MK012 omnis (A-
