  1. thanks Tom, a mixer I know uses the exact same combination as me and doesn't have that problem. His SKP2000 is in a different frequency range, though. Mine is C, his is E band I think. I will look into the first experiment you mentioned, thanks again for that.
  2. thanks Chris, but no, no keyboard attached. Still trying to figure it out... can RF be disturbed by metal? I'm starting to think maybe it's because my cart is all aluminum, and a lot of it...
  3. I am using an SKP 2000 plug on transmitter by Sennheiser for sending a CMIT's signal via a Sennheiser EK 100 G3 diversity receiver to a 788T. Now on some locations I hear this very high frequency noise on that channel, a bit like a feedback sound, a tone (not continouos) at about 12-15 kHz I guess, sometimes stronger, sometimes weaker. It's usually only really audible on quiet passages, and of course it won't be too hard for post to eq it out, but I am clueless as to where it comes from, so I'd like to see if someone else has had this problem and maybe knows what to do about it. I have tried everything I could think of, changed frequencies, switched pilot tone on and off, changed RF power from high to standard to low and back but couldn't get rid of it. It's only on some locations, other days I don't hear it at all. And it's not a tinnitus, as it's only on that one channel. I'll appreciate any of your thoughts on this issue.
  4. thanks Bash, Jeff and Jack. Good info. So I take it from Jack's reply that I won't be able to use external media via USB in order to get a second complete mirror (including ISOs), instead I can only use two tracks. Is this assumption correct?
  5. Jack, or Jeff – so when the final take of a day is recorded, can I just pop out the mirror BWF card and send it right to the editing room or do I need to finalize/convert the recorded files first? And about the USB connector: will it be possible to connect an external drive that is mirrored to during recording, on the fly?
  6. If you're going to conceal the mic under clothing definitely get the 4071 with the presence boost! The 4060 loses way too much presence when under clothing, whereas exposed it sounds very natural and has a good low end.
  7. I sincerely hope that the pre order queues will remain the only thing the Nomad will have in common with the RED.
  8. my first cart. mostly aluminum. contains all I need for a fast paced drama series shoot. SD788+CL8 in the bag, removable. I can pull this cart up stairs on my own if I have to.
  9. Thanks for your comments Senator, Armin, Jack and Boomboom. Of course I charge the production for renting my equipment for the gig, but my goal was not to invest a rather large part of it in renting myself. I actually considered the Fusion but SD has lowered the price for the 788 so that would be my second choice, Nomad being my first. So I actually talked to Ambient and they will give me a 788+CL8 until I get the Nomad. I'm happy about that. The job unfortunately is very very very fast paced so there won't be much time to figure out anything during the shoot. But then again, I just need to get the basic setup right, no TC/Zaxnet etc. on this job, I will record boom, 5 lavs and a mix do a lot of file renaming that has to be quick, but that's pretty much all I need for that job. I hope to learn how to do that on the Nomad during a weekend. I will have a backup recorder of course in case the thing breaks down, but I guess I'll just take the risk and trust Zaxcom to deliver a working recorder that won't die during my shoot.
  10. I'm a bit clueless, so maybe someone has a piece of advice for me: I preordered a Nomad 8 early June with Ambient in Germany, I will theoretically need it 23 August for a 5 weeks shoot. I suppose I won't get it in time. I have rent a SD 788T+CL8 for a production I have now but I don't like it so much that I would buy that combo instead of the Nomad, even though that would be financially more sensible than renting again. I don't want to waste thousands of Euros on rent waiting for the Nomad. What would you guys do in my situation?
  11. I've used the Rode Lavalier. Careful with the Micon-1 connector for Sennheiser. There has been a revision, the original plugs didn't work well so ask for the revised one if you're gonna need one of these. Cable noise was really low, I was surprised. The mic itself is a bit long though. It won't fit in a DPA concealer. A Sanken rubber mount will conceal it, though I prefer the DPA mount to the rubber. Sound is also really good in my opinion. Only used it once on a studio commercial shoot though but for the price you can't go wrong, especially with the DPA rip off connector system at that price.
  12. thanks Tomash, and extend thanks to Oleg. Thing is, many bags (even by Petrol - I own their 302 bag) have been designed clearly with a special piece of equipment in mind, Sound Devices recorders for instance, and the Nomad does have a different layout than these, so I think it would be worth a nice special bag... anyway we know at least Petrol won't be making a special Nomad bag.
  13. digging this up to ask if there are any news on bags tailored for the Nomad? I'm sure Petrol will release one but when? Oleg?
  14. Hi and willkommen Armin. You can get the Hawk Woods stuff in Germany too, Gruppe3.de has all their stuff. Rado I like your DV battery setup, especially for the price. Do you have to change batteries throughout a shoopting day? Too bad I didn't check on that earlier, but meanwhile I got a good deal on some of those aforementioned grey NP1s and an IDX charger barely used, so now I'm an NP1 man. I also got Hawk Woods cups for powering video monitors.
  15. Since I don't recall any information on this topic on here respectively on the Zaxcom website: how does file naming/renaming work on the Nomad? Which knob is used to scroll through letters etc.? I suppose it's easy and quick to change names but of course if someone can give first hand info on that it would be great.
  16. hey, good to hear someone knows this place. Great region, very friendly (and curious!) people. Great tea, too!
  17. while I have been working on a Mac for years, I felt kind of set back and restricted when I recently used an iPad a couple of times. While this seems to be the direction Apple is heading towards, I'm not quite sure if I will like that as much as I've come to like the mac until today (like only being able to buy software from the AppStore, nowhere else...)
  18. Does anyone know if any manufacturer has announced or planned bags fitted for Nomad and when they will be available? I'm asking because I will need one as soon as my Nomad arrives and would prefer one that is made for Nomad to a standard bag.
  19. My office today: Qing Yan, a small ancient town near the 4.5 million city of Guiyang which I almost bet none of you have ever heard of. Shooting a documentary with a group of students there. [img width=698 height=1043]http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/12/23/547356/guiyang.JPG
  20. May I say I find it amazing that a company would be this responsive to good suggestions given on this forum as resulted in the fader assign menu. However there will always be more suggestions and new ideas that might be nice to add. I believe that Nomad is an awesome package as of now on the paper and I hope the suggestions will soon cease as I would like to buy one of these asap and everything they add will delay the release right? It's impossible to be everything to everyone...
  21. just tried my MK 012 yesterday with a PS 2 and it works here.
  22. As for boom poles, I recommend vdB for being very light, compared to KTek or Ambient poles that I've also used.
  23. has anyone seen or used these no-name LiIon NP batteries and charger and could give some advice as to whether they're worth the money? 14.4 V, 5.2 Ah They sell at okay prices over here (Germany) http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350457083876&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT says the cells are Japanese quality cells. No idea if they sell 'em in the US too? and cheap chargers: http://cgi.ebay.com/Battery-Charger-IDX-NP-L50S-NP-25N-NP-L50-/380264765008?pt=Batteries_Chargers&hash=item58898bd650
  24. Thanks everyone. Very informative thread. About your suggestion Jesse: Seems like a great option, though I wouldn't wanna see one of those explode in my bag... What do you charge that battery with? EDIT: okay, found it. Bottom of the linked page shows a charger...
  25. I'm about to purchase a new recorder/mixer (probably Nomad or 788T+CL8) and am figuring out how to power it so it will run for at least half a shooting day. I will use it partly on a cart, partly from the bag. What I usually see and what most people use is of course NP1 style IDX LiIon batteries. I already have a NiMH NP1 (12V, 4 Ah) and a charger I have been using for my old mixer but that won't power said recorders for long enough (I have tried it on a 788). Now before spending several hundreds of € for a new Li-Ion charger and batteries I'd like to find out if there are less expensive alternatives which will deliver similar results to Li-Ion NP1 style batteries. Any help is greatly welcome and appreciated! A search has yielded no results by the way.
