  1. Hi Justan I suppose you already got the answers to your questions, I feel sorry that your thread got kind of hijacked. I am also a Fusion10 owner. I haven't worked with script link receiver but, the Fusion should not have problem to start recording when receiving TC. Just go to MENU->SETUP->OPERATING MODES and set Transport Operation to AUTO-LOAD. I' also agree with you with the mirroring mode. It's a PITA to always turn it back on when you power the recorder. But it seems that most of other Zaxcom users find this normal behaviour. I wish it could be user selectable. Also the headphone alarm tone is one of other options that you have to turn on everytime you power on/off the recorder. Best Eric
  2. Just found this thread. His name is Damaso Hernandez he's a very experienced Spanish Boom Operator. This is his website : http://web.me.com/damasonico/damasonico/HOME.html I'll let him know about this thread maybe so he can join in and share some comments with the rest :-)
  3. Will probably never happen but wouldn't you love something like that for your Zaxcom / SD recorders :-) http://saitarasoftware.com/Site/Home.html
  4. There are also some interesting audio samples to hear the noise reduction effect comparing it to the classic CMIT shotgun http://digital.schoeps.de/en/products/supercmit/samples
  5. Hi Dan No Green line here on my fusion10(with new screen) just the white one Screenshot:
  6. Paul Thanks as always for chiming in :-) Even if you don't consider yourself an authority your experience & knowledge with this recorder are very valuable for me and I suppose for everyone else. Thanks! I couldn't find this info concerning the rec light anywhere.I was testing with some small CF cards that I found in my drawer (so that would be the reason). I see that I will need to get used to Zaxcom's mirror philosophy, which on SD recorders is ofcourse different. Mmmm... strange... this a screenshot of Zaxcom's website concerning the additional EFX pack for the Fusion10 Then maybe yesterday I discovered something :-) In the EQ section if you press the back space button you get this screen where you can save and load up to 5 presets. You don't have the same option in the compressor setting, where as you say you can copy/paste the setting to a different channel Thanks again for all your help -Eric
  7. Well just got my Fusion10 (serial 20115 firm 6.03u) with the free EFX pack promotion, two days ago. I won’t be able to use it on a job until February, so now for the moment I’m just getting familiar with it and playing around with it. I’m also waiting for my 32gb CF cards to do some more serious testings. I "imagined" the Fusion to be bigger as it actually is, build quality is impressive as well as the touch screen, I really love the all the different routing options (disk, outputs, headphones) and how intuitive, easy and fast it is to change the parameters most of them on the fly. Battery life seems to be great but still need to spend more time with it to confirm. For the moment I have a few doubts and while playing with it found some other things that find a bit awkward. • The first times I tried to record something the Rec light was flashing red, now after formating the CF cards a few times now it’s steady. Does the flashing Rec light mean something? • Mirroring and headphone Alarm Tone always defaults to off when you switch on the machine (is that normal or a bug ?) If so is there a reason for this ? • I couldn’t find a way to erase a specific segment inside a folder (is that possible?) • In the Zaxcom’s website they mention the additional EFX pack for the Fusion10 as having EQ, Compressor and Expander . I still can’t find where the Expander settings can be found. • EFX pack is there is a way of storing user presets of EQ or compressor settings? Which IMO could quite useful. • I was also surprised of the user interface of the EQ in EFX pack. In the way you need change the different FREG/GAIN/Q settings. I imagined that being a touch screen interface and having a graphical representation of the EQ, that one could change all the settings directly touching the EQ curves (like many computer based EQ plug-ins).In the Fusion you need to input the values directly using the keypad or a slightly better method I found (LEVL/FREQ mode) is using the keypad as cursor keys but I still find it slow to use it to sweep around the different FREG/GAIN/Q settings. Would be nice if at least the longer you press the button the faster the settings would change instead of a constant speed. Next are a just few personal things/functions that for the moment I will miss coming from a Sound Devices recorder (things I knew before buying the Fusion, but with the hope that maybe Zaxcom could implement them in future firmware updates) • No simultaneous double mirroring option (secondary CF AND Firewire) • No Absolute time counter ( I miss this specially when you playback a take, in playback or cue mode but would also be good to have while recording) • No Alarm Beep function (Record /Stop Alarms in headphones) • No analog input limiter activity signal on the screen (Would also be nice to know when the limiters kick in) Well these are just some of my initial thoughts that wanted to share with the rest of members that are/were in the situation of comparing and/or trying to decide what recorder to get. Also would like to thank some members that answered some private messages of questions I had concerning the Fusion. It's a great forum! -Eric

  9. Glenn What kind of CF cards(speedwise and compatibility wise) do you recommend using with the Fusion ? Any there any specific models to stay away from ? Speed wise what would be necessary to record full 10 tracks on a Fusion10 ?what kind of Ultra UDMA modes does the Fusion support? Thanks
  10. From the homework I'm doing trying to learn as much as I can about the Fusion product range The hardware differences I found between the Fusion12 and 10 was the 10 pin Hirose conector and the DB25 connector On the Fusion10 you have it as Outputs 5 and 6 and camera return On the Fusion12 you have it as Line Inputs 9,10,11,12 On the DB25 connector the Fusion12 has 8 analog outputs while the Fusion10 has 6
  11. Hi Tom I had a look a the website I bought it from http://www.chinavasion.com but I think the model I have isn't made anymore. I see there have some other models with AV in/out but bundled with a spy camara :-) Search for mini DVR devices. All these kind of devices normally work with an internal rechargeable battery, or 5v external
  12. Billy thank you very much for all your answers!! BTW other things I couldn't find anywhere on the manual of the Fusion are if the 6 analog outputs can be ajusted level wise ? I also see there is an Headphone Alarm tone option but what kind of different warning tones can you hear on the headphones ? battery low? when starting recording? when stopping? Disk full ? Error while recording? Do you have some king of warning when recording lets say full 10 tracks and maybe your CF card isn't fast enough? Thanks everyone
  13. I'm also in the same situation where my clients also expect the files name to have the scene and take number. So with the Fusion the only way to achieve this is like Marc Wielage says in his previous post is to use BWF Widget or Wave Agent to batch reaname the files. If you use a computer on set to burn the files to DVD and do your sound report (as I do ) then it's not a big deal. If you do a hand writen report or use the Fusion internal sound report function and burn to DVD using an external burner conected to the Fusion then you have no choice. I also remember reading somewhere that Wave Agent had trouble reading the track label metadata from Zaxcom recorded wav files, Is that fixed now? The Cantar AFAIK names its files giving them a complety (kind of random) unique name, but think has a function to rename it's files later adding the scene and take info. But probably someone with real Cantar experience can tell us more I have some other questions for Deva/Fusion users Can the touch screen get scratched easily? I do a lot of beach locations shoots and the sand could be a problem. Does some of you use some kind of transparent screen protector ? (like the ones they sell for cellphones or PDAs?) How does the Deva/Fusion handle false takes/starts ? In the 7 series you have this trash folder where all the false takes go, and files can be later recovered if you need them. Or later empty the trash folder if you want. How does it work with the Deva/Fusion? Can you add metadata info (notes) on the actual take while recording without interrupting the Recording? What about recording and be able to correct/add metadata info of the previous take without interrupting the recording? For those who have or use the EFX pack, how good/useful is the EQ and the Notch filters to remove on set generator/AC or HMI ballast noises ? Thanks for you answers
  14. Hi Derek Well sorry to disapoint you a bit as it's not as high tech as it looks :-) It's just a cheap($60) chinese MP4 player which has video in capability. I normally feed it with my custom made beta breakaway snake on video shoots (2 audio sends, 2 audio returns, and video or TC return) or straight from video assist on film shoots. It works OK in interiors but is crap outdoors in full sunlight. I haven't bothered yet in finding a wireless solution for it.
  15. Hi Sam You can fit perfectly a 702 recorder into PSDMB-302 bag, its a bit tight but no problem, I have a similar setup but with a 744T. I'm attaching a picture so you can have look
  16. Hi Gabi I don't know if at this point you already made this tough decision.I'm more or less in the same situation as you. Happy owner of 744T but want to also move to higher track count + ISOs and mixing possibility. Also don't have an easy possibility to try before buying. One thing to take in consideration is in the case of the Fusion some of the extras you'll need to buy, like NP1 batteries and charger, high capacity Compact Flash card(s) 32Gb or 64gb, Db25 cable, all of those things that you probably have coverered if you go for the 788T. Are you planning to keep the 744T as a backup machine or are planning to sell it to help you buying the new recorder? In the case of keeping the 744T as backup or in the case you would need more tracks maybe then again it would make more sense to get the 788T. On the other side I'm also worried about some 788T users complaining about the random lockups/crashes, heat issues, that the Fusion doesn't seem to have. The Fusion seems to be also more battery friendly Difficult decision :-) Happy 2010
  17. Oleg Do the Globalmedia NP1s have the same 1mm problem ? Picture wise they look more or less the same. How hard/easy is to take this 1mm away?
