  1. What jack is suggesting is to leave all tracks checked for the mirror card and disable tracks for the primary card as needed. This way everything gets mirrored and no blank tracks are created.
  2. He asked about out putting the screen somehow to make it easy for camera. erx1tc and an ipod effectively does that, including the wireless link others have mentioned.
  3. One hell of an adr session? Wandering Ear
  4. I'm not sure what recorder you are refering to, but the 788 has seperate leds for the mix tracks and for each input, and the faders are tied to input channels, not card tracks. On the Nomad, you can link your faders to any input you want, so they are not tied to track assignments. You can also choose what you want to monitor, not just the card tracks, but inputs and outputs as well.
  5. Good point. My point was you could still have a full mix and aes output simultaneously.
  6. you can have aes turned on and still use either the ta3 or 10pin outputs for your mix. aes is only on the xlr outputs. using autorecord works but there is a couple second delay before the 552 records so the start times will be noticeably different. not really a big deal. I used to run a 2 second pre roll (free run tc) and roll the 552 first, which consistantly gave me file start times within a half second-ish. not really an issue either way.
  7. I did that setup with a fostex recotrder at times. It works just fine. The clocks aren't synced, so you'll notice some drift on very long recordings (1hr +) but for most stuff it will be very stable. Since you can't name files on the 552, you may want to consider naming your 702 files after the 552 files to make ingestion simpler.
  8. I've had the remote audio snake, and have been very happy with it. Now that I sold my 552 I don't need it anymore and am looking to sell it. It's in great condition. PM me if you're interested. K
  9. +1 after the 3.0 upgrade I haven't had any freezes. Currently on 3.07.
  10. It shouldn't be, but at the moment your able to select both simultaneously. I haven't had a chance to test out what happens. It would be nice if the software disabled prerecord when switching to rec run.
  11. Thanks all for the replies. Glad to know it's working well for people. How does autoload react if you have prerecord turned on? I don't plan on it, but prerecord is one of those things I usually leave on at around 3 seconds, and I would probably forget to turn it off if I wasn't thinking this through before getting on set.
  12. That's true, I may do it this afternoon. I suppose I could run a cable from the tc output into an input and use that to get tc to one of my tracks for transcription. hmmm.
  13. Is anyone using rec. run and autoload on their nomad? I have a rec run shoot coming up in two days, and I won't have a chance to test. Anyone run into issues? I know the mp3 recording isn't implimented yet, which is a bummer because I need it sunday. The manual shows the ability to route tc to card tracks, but it doesn't show up on my nomad. Is that a future feature? Nomad 8 v3.07
  14. I've never seen or tried these batts, but if they are actually 3.2 volts, it would be a bad idea to use them as the resulting voltage would be too high. Zaxcom recommends only using nimh or lithium aa's internally. Don't use alkalines! You should get a lot more than an hour out of lithiums though. You might want to check that the batts were fresh and test again. I'm in the camp where I use np1s and treat the internals as backups in case my external dies during a take.
  15. If you are primarily mixing to camera, and the iso are just for backup, I wouldn't worry to much about it. Try to get someone on camera to clap, or have camera shoot your screen when possible, but if they're only using isos for backup, i wouldn't think it's worth interupting the workflow or feeling if say it's an emotional scene trying to be captured without the subjects paying attention to the crew. Do it if it's possible, but sounds like not your top priority.
  16. Bernie, if you think you are clipping the d4 input, you could try setting your gains using full scale tone, which is easy to do with the nomad. that would give you the confidence that hitting 0dbfs won't clip anywhere along the chain. If post wants you to help them out by squeezing a few more db out of your tracks, you could try setting up your input compressors with a low ratio, and low threshold to add compression to all the louder content, then use the output/card compressors with a high ratio to prevent clipping. I would warn post that doing this gives them less control over the dynamics, and monitoring / adjusting this compression in the field is impracticle, and will be permanent. aka not recommended, but possible.
  17. Sample accurate file splitting has nothing to do with starting on a frame number. The frame number is calculated from the number of samples elapsed since midnight, it's merely a piece of metadata. Sample accurate file splitting is an awesome feature of sd products though!
  18. I'd be happy to make you one. PM me for details. K
  19. I've been looking at the Kortwich waist strap system for a while now, and I just ordered a custom bag for my Nomad. I'm really looking forward to getting it.
  20. I did an interview once, and for the life of me I couldn't track down the source of this metalic ticking that sounded like a clock. I couldn't find it cause I only heard it on the mic, but not in the room. When I brought it up as I was trying to find it, our talent peaked up and informed me that he has a titanium heart valve. Just had to live with that one.
  21. I also haven't needed to reset after software upgrades. I keep a backup of my settings, but I've never needed to use it.
  22. Hey Jon, Sweet handle. I like it! Malcom, I use a hot knife blade on a soldering iron to cut the line and melt the ends together essentially making a big loop. Then I fold the loop on itself to make the inner part of the handle to be wrapped. In the top photo you can see a very slight bulge on the right hand side, that is where the joint lives. To be honest, I'm not sure I need to actually melt the ends together, the whipping should hold it just fine, but I figure it can't hurt. Also the joint is on the inside loop, so it's not load bearing. Thanks for the interest, and thanks Jim for posting! Kelsey
