  1. +1 to Larrys comment. I am also happy that you decided to keep this section up. I don't think it's Jeffs or Jwsounds responsibility to police/rule/limit the transactions. It's not the intention of the site, and puts a huge unneccessary burden on our admin. This is merely a discussion forum for people to connect with one another, we still need to look out for ourselves and the people we interact with. Just my opinion. Wandering Ear
  2. That's true, but formatting erases all references to that data, so unless the software is specifically looking at the unallocated sectors, the data won't be read. Zeroing a hd will generally erase things well enough that it needs a white glove service to restore, which is sufficient unless the data is very sensitive, and is more than enough for the purposes of this topic. 3. Macs don't delete the files until you empty the trash, they "move" them to a hidden folder named ._trashes. I believe windows automatically deletes the files on removable media, although I haven't owned a windows comp in quite a while, so I can't confirm that current versions still do this. John, have you tried updating from a cf card after emptying the trash but not formatting? I'm just curious, I think formatting first is a step that should be taken, and I thought it was a recommended step in the upgrade instructions. I might screw around with this this weekend on my days off, but I always hesitate to change software or mess with things that are working well right in the midfdle of a feature. Wandering Ear
  4. It makes sense if the audio is being used to sync the cameras to each other and they plan on using the camera mix. Although it'd be cheaper for production to have scratch track on the other two cameras instead of full quality recievers. Wandering Ear
  5. Also the Nomad has 6 outputs, 5&6 are on a ta5 connector, so you could have custom routing for each camera if you want. As suggested, using your unused inputs 5&6 for return monitoring would be my preference, or you could monitor b&c cameras in mono to return 3&4. Wandering Ear
  6. If I remember correctly, you can hold the menu knob during boot to freeze the on screen text and read it. Red text means there is a warning, but that does not mean it is severe. I'm sure Howy can interpert your warning for you and let you know what the issue is. Wandering Ear
  7. I want to wear that hat on set so when an ad asks me if we're rolling sound on this shot with movements, I can point to the hat to remind them that at least guide track is better than no track. Wandering Ear
  8. I own a gitzo pole, and there are things I like about it. The segments don't twist amongst each other which is really nice. The tubing they use however, especially on the last two sections has a small diameter, and flexes a lot with a heavy mic like a 416. There is no coiled cable option, which is something I really like. The real reason I stopped using it in the end was because the threaded tip came un glued from the pole. I own two ambients, and personally find them to be if much higher quality all around. I love my gutzo tripod, but I find their boom pole designs to not be very well refind. Just my experience. Wandering Ear
  9. I especially like that it's small enough to fit in a xx series xlr. no extra bulk at the mic end. Wandering Ear
  10. Nice work Rob! What did you use for the foam inserts?
  11. So far the CF cards I've used successfully with my Nomad are: Sandisk Extreme 60MB/s UDMA 16GB (Primary/Mirror) Sandisk Extreme IV 45MB/s UDMA 4GB (Primary/Mirror) Delkin Devices Compact Flash Pro UDMA 4GB (Mirror Only) I've got some 32GB Transcend cards on the way, I'll add those to my list once I have used them.
  12. How would you like that sent to you? I'd be happy to report the cards I've been using successfully. Wandering Ear
  13. I didn't feel like spending the cash right now, so i went in with a friend on the order to get the discount. Wandering Ear
  14. I think it would be cool (read low priority) if we could add custom header information to our sound reports from within the Nomad, rather than just the default. I often write the sound report, then immediately hand the card off to DIT, and would love to be able to add my name, contact info, etc... into the sound report without having to open it up on a computer first. Just wishing out loud ...
  15. Cool. I've been looking at these for a while. I just ordered 3 ERX1TCDs to compliment my nomad. We'll see how I like 'em.
  16. In what way do you like the sen. iem better? sound quality? Wandering Ear
  17. That's exactly how I've always felt about the handles. That's why I made my own out of climbing rope for my portabrace bag. Wandering Ear
  18. +1 After upgrading all my talent mics to 411/sm I still use my g3s all the time. A handy piece of gear to keep in the kit. Wandering Ear
  19. FM 2.95 added support for a much wider range of cf cards other than 133x transcends. That being said, cf cards seem to be a primary cause of freezes. Wandering Ear
  20. In the productions I work on, plurar eyes is the most common method of syncing with dslrs, but it's not always accurate so I always prefer to slate. No reason to stop doing what has worked for decades just because their are other options. Wandering Ear
  21. I haven't found a specific combination that causes it, but i just went into the bus page, then headphone2, and no cross points show up. My boom op can still hear what was previously routed though. I'll pay attention to it over the next couple of days, and probably call Zax when I have some down time (not 8pm on a friday night). Not sure it matters, but I'm primarily sending out 5 to both ears, sometimes out 3/4 for stereo micing. Wandering Ear
  22. I meant routing. i have 2 outputs setup depending on the feed i want to send, and i switch back and forth. Sometimes i send mix if we are using only plants so he can listen in. Wandering Ear
