  1. Question for others using hp2 output. I'm on a feature right now, and have been changing my hp2 signal half a dozen times a day. quite often when i go into the hp2 routing page, no crosspoints show up, even though they were previously set and my boom op was still getting signal. Had once today where I set the same crosspoint on l and r, but the l sounded hotter, and signal could still be heard on the l even after removing both crosspoints. Scrolling the cursor through reset it. Have any of you seen this? running 2.95 Wandering Ear
  2. I've never tried to change metadata during a take. Seems like a bad idea, but who knows. I hand write my notes during a take, it's a lot quicker and leaves my hands free to mix. You have to enter your metadata and notes with the menu knob, which is a bit slow. I'd prefer to focus on the take and put whatever notes I need to include later. Wandering Ear
  3. Although I haven't needed it yet, using outputs works fine, it would be nice to have. Wandering Ear
  4. Exactly how I do it. Works great. Although I'm not able to make you a video, track naming is easily done through the eng setup - track name menu, and notes can be entered in the metadata menu where you enter scene and take info. Notes can be easily added after the take or to previous takes as well. Wandering Ear
  5. Although I agree that sanding may invalidate your warranty, I'm curious as to how you think it will stop the pole from functioning? We're not talking about removing much in the way if material, but merely scuffing the surface to reduce the shine. Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
  6. I made a new end for my ambient pole using the nuetrik hd series xlrs which are waterproof. A bit of silicone on the solder side to prevent water in the pole from shorting out. I used the same hd xlr connectors at the top of the pole and on my zeplin.
  7. Thanks for the feedback. I've always sent tone and slate to everything because sound devices defaults that way. I never really considered a reason for or against it until recently. I'm thinking there is no reason for me to send slate/tone to my isos.
  8. So I noticed that the nomad doesn't allow me to route the slate mic or tone to card tracks 5-8. In place of it is the return 1 & 2. My initial thought was that i don't like that, what if the poly files were split to mono? you wouldn't have the audio slate on each iso. That got me wondering what tracks others send their slate and tone to? Just the mux track? All tracks?
  9. I use Open Office, but any spreadsheet program should be able to import the csv file.
  10. Funny, I consider my car to be a piece of my sound kit, as I rarley drive it except for work. It also happens to be less expensive than most of the core components in my kit. Someday I'll have a better vehicle, but for now I'd rather have better mics.
  11. Although I'm not surprised, I didn't know this. Can you elaborate how it changes the polar pattern, or is it mic specific? thanks k
  12. Nothing special. the scotch brite does a good job of scuffing the surface evenly throughout. fine sand paper 600grit or so has worked for me too, but i liked the scotchbrite better, although honestly i can't remember exactly why. let me know how it goes, i've thought about doing the same to my ambient poles.
  13. Although i haven't done this to my ambient pole, i use to have a shiny carbon fiber pool cue which i made matte using a piece of scotch brite and a lottle water. worked well. i'd try it on the outer pole first, and if it works to your liking, do the rest.
  14. Correct. I used the W2697 for a lot of cables too, and really like it, but I switched to the W3031 recently in hopes the braided shield might add a bit of durability to the cable. Although, none of my W2697 cables have broken, so maybe it's all in my head. I mostly use the Remote Audio TA5s from Trew Audio. They only come in one cable size, and the rubber boot is removable if you need to use larger cables. I ordered a bunch of the TA5FX recently, not realizing that the rubber boot wasn't removable like the Remote Audio ones, and I ended up just drilling them out when I needed to accommodate a larger cable. In addition to the Petrol bags, I've been looking at the Kortwich bags recently, although I don't own one, so I can't give you first hand experience, the bag opens up to allow easy access to the XLRs.
  15. I found that making my own cables wasn't any cheaper at first due to the amount of odds and ends i needed to keep around to make good cables, but i committed and now make all my own cabling, and i do find it noticably cheaper. I have been using, and liking the mogami w3031 cable for the small stuff, like ta5 split cables. i just finished making a bunch of new nomad cables today. I'll post some photos in diy later. 16. You can rename the tx profiles by touching and holding the profile name. A menu will pop up with a couple options.
  17. That is really what i was getting at, you just said it better.
  18. I've had the 788 freeze on me to.
  19. Couple ideas: My dream would be a customizeable home screen where i can pick and choose any combination of input/output/card tracks. That would be awesome! I know Howy's busy, i can wait. The white line through the card track works for me, but changing the bg color would be nice, maybe a lighter grey, and then enabled tracks bg could turn maroon during recording as a quick easy way to see, oh yeah, those three redish tracks are recording. I'd also love to see track numbers on the left of my tracks. I rename my tracks, but they are referenced only by nunbers in the menus, so having that number always show up on the home screen would be nice. If you wanted to add a visual record enable on other screens, maybe having the track numbers vertically down one side in different colors for armed/disarmed tracks? Personally i'm usually on the card tracks screen when recording, with never clip i don't really care too much about the input meters, i just monitor my record tracks to make sure my recordings are good. I can see situations where you'd want to monitor other screens while recording, but it's less common in my usual work. Since i'm making home screen requests, i'd Really like to be able to see the next scene and take number. Just my thoughts. I'm curious to see what others want to see. K
  20. Then production is making a choice to skip a vital step in the process. I could see this on sit down interviews and the like, but I still don't use the compressors for that in the field. It's too hard to accurately monitor in the field, and I don't know if/how they will edit etc... Overload protection only here.
  21. you can't. the 7d doesn't support external timecode. you can record the timecode signal to an audio track, but you should be checking with post first, as this is a much less common workflow, and some editors like FCP cannot read timecode off of the audio track.
  22. Have you looked at the Neumann Km185? $900 unless you find recordings done by the same person, in the same room, with the same setup and subject, "samples" likely won't help much. you can't be confident what you are hearing is indeed a factor of the mic. just a thought.
  23. i am not using a mix8. good to know about the power up sequence though, i'll keep that in mind if i manage to get a mix8. thank you all for your help, and thanks to Jason A, and Jack who suggested i check the mix8 settings since that was my problem. i was in panick mode this morning as we were shooting and i couldn't mix. all's back to normal now. very much appreciated. k
