    New SD 833

Paul, can we get an official answer as to whether future updates/support for the 6 series is over? Some colleagues and I have had ongoing bugs with our 664/668s as well as some simple suggestions to streamline certain things like file naming and we've yet to hear any answers. And can you comment on whether the scorpio or 833 will eventually be able to interface with the CL-12? That would be a huge plus for me. Thanks, Ben
  2. I promise to be a good boss LOL!
  3. Reviving this thread. Asking for a friend. Is block 21 still good around Charlotte? He has access to 21 and A band. Thanks, Ben
  4. How much is Zaxcom paying you?

    scorpio!

Is there a way to save EQ presets for those recurring characters and costumes which need more or less the same eq every time? And on larger control surfaces, could the 3 band EQ theoretically be controlled outside of the scorpio eq menu?
  6. Hey SD, I love your products and own many of them. I have some weird bugs with my 664/CL-12 combo as of firmware version 4.51 which I've had since it was released, though these issues only seem to have arisen for me in the last 6 months. Before anyone asks, yes I use only approved media. 1) I've been using a little external cell phone battery for the cl-12 microboost and it works fine but sometimes I forget to unplug it after wrap, it drains and then I'm screwed the next morning. I switched to a XLR4->USB adapter to power the cl-12 continuously from my MEON LiFE which worked fine for a few days until the power went intermittent for some unknown reason and the microboost warning would flicker onto the screen very rapidly. I have since switched to a different battery with better results, but using it the first day, five hours in, it either died or went to sleep and the notification popped up again. First question for SD users/SD - is there a good battery/power source/workaround you recommend that won't go to sleep or discharge overnight? 2) This would all be fine if it didn't result in this bigger issue. The following has happened inconsistently, only a few times when the power was suddenly lost (though not every time) but very often (though not always) when I have to unplug the cl-12 to get the media out. This happens around lunch when I'm doing media breaks. I've tried powering the 664 off first to take the media out and I've tried leaving it on, all with inconsistent results. After the media break, I plug the cl-12 back into the 664 and power on the mixer if it isn't already and get the "CL-12 Firmware Update Required" notification. Anyone else? This slows me down at least 3 minutes because I have to unplug everything and let it "download (???)" etc. What's going on here? Is it an issue with power? The 664? CL-12? It's really frustrating. Last time, I had to just mix the scene on the rotary faders because I didn't have enough time for the nonsense. Then I unplugged all the peripherals and power cycled the machine and suddenly the update wasn't required anymore. It's just become a nuisance that I hate dealing with. Can anyone shed any light on this? 3) After #2 happens and I get the CL-12 up and running again, inputs 7 and 8 have ALWAYS reverted to direct outputs. Another annoying step I have to take to fix. 4) Unrelated but once every few months, the 664 will freeze upon boot up. Not a big deal but still shouldn't happen. I also just recently had it freeze immediatly after cutting on a take but luckily didn't lose anything. And while I have your attention - I'd love to be able to use the CL-12 exclusively for naming scenes and tracks. The way it's setup, you still need to hit some switches on the 664 to delete and to submit a new name. I'm sure there are a few more things like this. Any shortcuts we can put in so that I can leave my 664 alone? I'm at peace with the fact that the trims are on it. I just think the all-digital stuff should be able to be handled with the cl-12. Thanks for listening. -Ben
  7. If they won't wear an industry standard transmitter on their body, they can just go ahead and loop it.
  8. Thanks very much. I'll be sure to refer to this in the future!
  9. A quick anecdote: I recently did a reshoot for a film using two Red Heliums (they said the 8K was mandatory). The fans, even at their lowest settings, made everything on the booms unusable. Once that was clear to everyone and they decided to max out the fans anyway, the cameras were still overheating and would cut after about 8 minutes, not long enough for the takes we were doing. They had to bring the cameras outside the stage to cool down. Anyone ever hear of anything like this with the Helium? Camera department tried everything to no avail.
  10. That's what I've been doing actually but I like the idea of redundant isos from the receivers instead of the mixer/recorder. Never know when it can save you. Matt Mayer, thanks for the suggestion. I'm surprised what I'm looking for isn't more ubiquitous in our world. This looks promising. I checked with Crimson and theirs is mic level but could be attempted with line level like Doug's Art S8. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk
  11. Thanks a bunch for this. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk
  12. Thank you. Something I didn't know. Much appreciated. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk
  13. If you know of one that fits the description in my original post and is available today, please point me in the right direction. I'm only finding mic level or phoenix connectors on anything with more than one channel. Thank you. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk
  14. Please don't think I haven't tried that. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk
  15. Thanks Eric. There website is awful but I did send them an email. Surely they are not the only company making something like this. And it's not available yet anyway. Any other products people are currently using? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk
  16. Thanks Mike. I saw this. There's not enough info online to tell me if it's line level or not. Wondering if anyone else makes something similar in the mean time. Best, Ben Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk
  17. Hey all, I've searched all the usual suspects. Does anyone make a 1ru (or any rackmount size) 4-8 channel LINE LEVEL splitter with XLR ins and outs? I want it for redundancy recording to a second recorder on the cart. The closest I've found is either mic level only or with special phoenix connectors for the outputs. Best, Ben
  18. I find it a little strange that so many people think SD has to come out with something new. While that would have been very exciting for me, the 6 series is more than capable of handling all the cart-based narrative work that I do. It certainly has its limitations, track count being one of them if you need more than 12 sources which is rare for many, but not all of us. If you need more tracks and you're dedicated to SD, then get a 970 or one of the other Pix recorders. I know it's not just track count though. My 664 is my primary recorder and while it gets the job done, I wish I had more outputs and auxes and routing options. I wish my slate mic could go to the comteks without being recorded in the mix track but also without using X1 or X2. I wish they would fix some of the CL-12 bugs that I've emailed them about many months ago and I wish they would take my advice and change a few things in the firmware so that if you're using a CL-12, you NEVER have to touch the machine to access/change something in the menu or confirm a new entry of a track name, etc. And one of the biggest gripes I've seen from others, that you can't control the trims on on the control surface - yeah I guess it's a little inconvenient but I've actually gotten used to it. I would hate to see SD come out with something mediocre just for the sake of it. They're a fantastic company and they have not forgotten about their pro user base. They will release a new machine for us when it's ready.

  21. I've been making a fool of myself amongst the ACs on the last few jobs trying the JAM SYNC option with the Mini. The TC will read but it will keep flashing 9 times out of 10. Sometimes even an error message will appear saying the camera cannot jam to the external signal or that the signal is not valid (can't remember the exact wording). What is the jam sync option for and what option should I be using for sync from an external box? The most recent crew says to stick with REGEN. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk
  22. "Why can't we just put a mic on the camera?" This was for vocals on a windy, snowy beach, camera wrapped in plastic. Alexa mini with line level inputs only. They originally wanted to shoot 65mm. It was just like that Sound Mixer Hell video Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk
