  1. Glad everyone is happy with their purchase.... to each their own.... best to forget the windows.... for a few reasons... Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too small for me personally..... and for the saving of only about 4 MPG over my FULL size Chevy Express Cargo van with the Duramax 6.6 diesel (22mpg. hwy), I will not be making the switch anytime soon.... Safety, performance / Power, room, not being a Ford, longitivity, ride quality, robust build quality and the ability to tow... use for camping, moving equip. or furniture.... on and on... I would stick with that 6.6 diesel any day of the week.... unless of course you park in a living room.... If you get rear-ended in that vehicle, the screen behind your back is the least of your problems... As for TPMS.... That is a GREAT thing to have on ANY vehicle.... Saved my life once on my Sport touring motorcycle, and possibly on my Van.... do not put tape over them, do not under estimate their value.... unless you check your tire pressure every time you drive, they can save your life.... if they go bad, change them... seriously, we spend how much on all the crap we buy for work but scoff at a safety item... not too smart if you ask me... Driving down the HOT Hwy., you never checked your tire, it had a slow leak, down 20 lbs of pressure... it drove, you were in a hurry and didn't really notice, it blows, you shoot off the road and roll.... NOW you wish you replaced them and not used black tape.... $200.00...? really? For those who own one, best of luck with it... and enjoy.... a new work vehicle is GREAT!! no matter which one...
  2. The members of my tribe there at B&H probably disliked some of the dealear agreement items and "plans" set forth by ZAX.... Kudos to them for just saying no.... They are very wise people over there... they saw something they did not care for that would not directly benefit them.. The math did not work out... Nothing bad on Zax's end, just business... They are smart enough to realize it is a specialized item that most people would buy from dedicated Pro sound mom and pop outlets.. Probably not enough of a profit margin, who knows.. Why they waited 10 weeks... that's easy... 10 weeks of intrest... like any good tribsman...
  3. I know this will sound dumb, but I have both SMQv and SMQ transmitters.... Every once and a while I try to quickly adjust the power output and after 2 min. of struggle... I figure out that I was trying to adjust the power on a SMQ... not the SMQv.... DUHhhhhhhhhh...
  4. Important to note, there are normally NO deal memos on commercials... a phone call, booking, exchanged emails regarding rate and such... Known persons are expected to have a particular "type" of package... so not a whole lot of paperwork or "contracts" are used on these short 1-2-3 day or longer gigs...
  5. Thanks John B, good stuff from you... Will people ever get this? Will this ever end.... Why is this whole subject so hard for people to understand?.. Why? Let me help to dumb it down further for those who may be struggling with the concept... Even two groups of kids selling Lemonade on the same street get this stuff.... pretty soon lemonade for a penny aint worth it and their little stands must BOTH close... simple enough? .. "Fouling the nest" pretty much sums it up....
  6. "I was booked out of town for a national TV spot for a major corporation (non-union) for 4 days and of course hotel, gas, expendables and per diem were not provided (we did get free subway tuna for lunch though!)," Robert.. You're SOL. It's clear that the company does not see you as a professional, and by accepting such a bad deal in the first place you didn't act like one. EXACTLY... SEBA, What do you mean " of course" everything NORMAL was not provided... You set yourself up.... who agrees to that... shame on you.. "National TV spot, Major corporation... This IS the market I work in, for years, and when you act like you did, you are treated like you were... They had NO respect for you... and yes, most likely, you are SOL.. If you want to be devious, bombard the Corporation the spot was for... tell them of your woes... find someone there who will hear you out.. You might get something that way... who knows.. Are you SURE nothing was funky on your end... manner in which you did your job, professionalism, quality of your product? I smell Tilapia... If I was called on a similar project, and they told me that, I could simply say no thank you... but I would not be making a point for our team... and that would be no fun at all...So, I would of first said, "your joking right" followed by... really?.. you want ME to pay for travel, per diem, hotel and the like? On a major national spot..? before I offend you, I will give you a moment to reconsider your proposal... If it remained the same, I would probably say.... I am insulted... are you guys high?.. what bull--it.... find some clown to do this.... I will be watching the Jetsons instead... I fear nothing because nobody reputable would conduct themselves that way, and since I don't want to work for disrespectful people like that, I personally don't care what they think...or if they ever call back again... I would explode that bridge to splinters... with a huge smile... You normally get what you give... Free Subway Tuna for lunch... that's a bonus?... I told you I smelled fish...LOL....
  7. Nope, not him, but I read about the guy on THIS forum.... I just can't find the info.... ANYONE....?
  8. Sorry, can't seem to locate the old post... searched, but could not locate it... anyone remember who the guy is that will take a stab at replacing wire from head down... I remember hearing that sometimes he can repair it when others can't... I remember reading he was located in burbank Ca...
  9. Funny hunh, everyone I talk to says they voted too. Either everyone lies or worse.... I will let everyone else figure out the worse... whatever you fancy..
  10. I am NOT a bag mixer, but that being said, MANY times after my 14 knee reconstructions I was back to work in days... and these were NOT Meniscus repairs.... they were ligiment replacements... If he mixed from a bag, OK... from a cart... I would just go to work... It wasn't that big of a deal... I mixed from a wheelchair a few times too... As someone who is nervous about the " Lifetime LIMIT" of medical coverage, (other operations as well...) and is most likely unable to get insurance without this new OBAMACARE deal... I say YEAH..... lets go.... for me it seems like a light at the end of the tunnel... how it will work out, who knows... better than the other option for sure...
  11. Good luck with that.... Great in therory, but seldom if ever does it work out... Probably best to look at it this way... If you actually have another paying option at the same time, it's best to from your end be up front and tell them that, "hey I can get booked on another job that really wants my services, but I will give you the first option... I would love to do the job, but would like a firm confirmation so I do not loose both gigs.." That method usually shakes them up into a decision.. not always, but often... and, at least you can still get your other option rolling in the mean time... keep both rods in the fire... it's a dance, but done right you can land one or the other... It's all you can really do... once someone commits, get it in writing... all you can... even then, on a show like the one described, you really don't have much recourse... but all you can do is all you can do.. Remember, the more professional you appear, the more professional you will be treated... (In most cases)... A dramatic dive in rates, or unskilled negotiations can lead to flags for them to notice... You probably have to then hope they themselves are a bit green and lack the skills to even know...
  12. "so I offered them a rate about 1/3 my regular day rate and very good deal on my gear " And that was Productions RED flag.... They said, OK, Game on....
  13. Look, You guys out East screw up the presidential elections, and we'll screw up the IA elections out West... fair enough?.. LOL
  14. New IA contract-Southern California-Loc 695... Ballots need to be in in a few days, mine is already gone, but I think they needed to be in by I THINK July 3rd or something...
  15. Guys and gals... Whatever you do, PLEASE VOTE...... If you are IA and received a ballot... just vote.... It's all we can do.... We can complain and bitch all we want... But if we don't vote, whats the point of bitching... VOTE!!! NOW!!! B.D.
  16. I think of the military.... always.... 130 degrees in Afganistan, dust, 17 hr days, people trying to kill you... on and on.... I think how fortunate we are to do this instead, no matter how bad things get.... and when I feel like whining about the situations I am forced to do my job in, I again, go back to the military thought... and suddenly, i don't feel so bad... in fact, I feel like an idiot for not toughing it out without complaining... even internally... As for others around me, if I hear whining and complaining about the rough day.... yep, back to the military, I think "glad I am NOT in a foxhole with that person"... Tough it out and shut up... I read a few books about the Second world war, "Helmet on my pillow" Robert Leckie was one... Pacific theatre, and I can tell you one thing.... I never feel like complaining again, about anything work wise... After reading what those guys went through, day after day I think... What a Pansy, just shut up and work... Read that book, I loved it by the way , to cure you of any complaining or feelings of being down and out about the tough job we do.. Read it at work and kill two birds with one stone... It's all perspective... Works for me and keeps my chin up and moving forward... with a Marine attitude...
  17. Come on now Jeff, A PD-2, really..... that was pretty darn early on in the digital realm of things.... so you abandonded the Fostex products forever, never to venture there again, to use something that never crashes, never has broken switches, never freezes, never locks up, never has to go back to the factory and every other thing i have read in the last year.... products you often tout...Zaxcom products.... Your statement is comical at best Jeff.... and I think you probably know it... For the record for the last 4 or 5 years, my PD 606 has NEVER.... REPEAT... NEVER froze, been back to the factory, had a switch break, nor did it come with a faulty one... stuttered, droped or botched files, or had ANY issues.... ANY... And that is after thousands of miles rattling around in the van from one Western state to another... In searing Arizona heat, Mexican Jungles, crazy mountain cold, on the beach and in the sandy dunes.... My PD-6 before it, the same.... years of torture, never one problem.... Before it the PD-4... years of faithful service... until the format was gone.... it worked perfectly until that time... What can I say.... to trash an entire companies products over the problems YOU had in a very early digital Pioneer recorder, one of a few... thats just not right.... The bad news, no factory to go back to.... LOL.... But I STILL love the machine... My SD 744T has also never farted either.... in any way, shape or form.... same torture.... same van, same heat....
  18. Still shooting film commercials..... did another a few days ago.... less yes, but still kicking.... I was very happy to do it I must add.... seems so.... relaxing...
  19. John, I think THIS was his problem...."DEFINITELY hard in direct sunlight to read." As you know, normal room-light conditions are a far cry from exterior direct sun.... Especially in the S.W. U.S... Phoenix, LA, Vegas ..... I was on a dry lake this week and let me tell you.... My contrasty SD gear was very visable.... but BOY was it bright out...... searing..... A difficult to read screen would not of been fun....
  20. You can talk until you are blue in the face about anything BEFORE the shoot begins... plan this, plan that.... have everyone UNDERSTAND and the like... but, when the starting gun goes off, and the shooting begins.... your on your own.... Nobody cares about you... sound... sound problems like the fridge.... people are busy with their own problems and issues... It is not all careless non caring on their end, they are all busy with theier own situations..but, some of it is actually... they don't care... re frame the shot for you.. ? because you don't have 5 radios.. think again... Worry about your Ederol R4 PRO? Nope... they could care less.... The reality is, no matter what problems you have going in, mainly, lack of a proper gear package and staffing... it will be AMPLIFIED once things get going... What can you do?... Size up the show the best you can BEFORE you get involved... have the smarts to sense when you will be playing on the train tracks... and get off before the train runs right over you... It's all you can do... That's one way to handle it.. OR...If you choose to stay on the tracks, a very brave and good thing... if you can fight through and keep your head on... if you can, you will learn in leaps and bounds... but it probably won't be too much 'FUN"... You will live through it though, that I can promise... Hang in there... Oh yeah, and the "STAR"... if he is working on this project... the laugh is probably on him... Never get intimidated... ever... get serious, stay serious don't loose your cool and just smile.... he'll come around... when he see's your not rattled... If you get rattled, he has you just where he wants you... If you don't, you have him just where you want him... looking like the fool he probably is... He will know it too... and you will have the last laugh... Your doing the best you can... what more can you do? Right?
  21. Union Rags wins the 144th Belmont Stakes Union Rags..... pretty much says it all... a timely event today... I am of the feeling that no matter WHAT we vote... it dosn't matter.... I am STILL trying to figure out the last bunch of bulls--t regarding the 400 hrs.... and how anyone voted for that... I still don't believe it.... any of it... it's all smoke and mirrors.... and yes... bulls--t... Someone mentioned balls, problem is nobody has any... I am ashamed to be part of this fiasco...
  22. Sign away your rights... don't worry about it.... take your money and go home and have a beer.... OK, not a good idea... if you really want to know, have an attorney look at it... Voluntary? of course it is... this is not slavery... Require you to do so? another legal question... you can say no.... call their bluff... but they could as you say not hire you... Did they "spring" this on you while you were gone from Cali, after the fact?... if so, not too cool... I would bet the attorney would advise NOT signing such a thing. There are SO many variables... does it only waive them from risk on the arena floor for example, or is it a blanket wavier for the whole show, which I would NOT think was a good idea for you. How is it written?.. what exactly does it say? read it all and see if your comfortable with what it says... Tough call... and a stab by them to protect themselves.. If you do get hurt or maimed, what, are you on your own?... You would probably STILL have rights... but legal issues are complicated... that's why there are so many attorneys...
