  1. I have shot quite a lot with (and also always had good experiences with) both F5 and F55. However, a heads-up to everyone: I learned something yesterday about the F55... after shooting in the morning, with audio and TC settings set by me in the camera - all good. Then in the afternoon, we set up to do a sit-down interview. I suddenly noticed that I did not have a return feed. So I walk over to the camera to check.... TC was not moving (Rec Run)... Return level at 0.... my input levels were also not where I had set them. What gives? Well.... -Turns out they had loaded a different "Profile", and doing so re-sets EVERYTHING. Of course, I was told - AFTER I had changed all settings back... hah!
  2. Tubigrip- in Jan's thread on prepping:
  3. My personal tests with Envelop Pro 2400 mah NiMH show similar results: LT: 5.5 hours SMQV: 8+ hours
  4. The BNC connectors are soldered straight onto the board, and therefore the whole thing is a bit fragile. Myself and others have mounted connectors on a small panel at the back of the rack, with short cables permanently connected from there to the monitors. That way, connecting/disconnecting never happens on the monitor itself. i have personally never dealt with BM support, but their reputation is consistent with what JB says above. I would still try them first.
  5. Yes, just make sure you get the pins connected correctly.
  6. With his adorable personality and impressive ability to identify sounds by looking at them, rather than listening, he probably doesn't need to lower himself to working bag jobs.
  7. Shure SM-57/58 vinyl pouches. I got a bunch from Full Compass @ ~ $10/ea, but they can likely be found at any music equipment store, like Guitar Center etc.
  8. I've been getting these every year as well. Don't panic, just put them in your spam folder and forget about it.
  9. LOTD. Thanks Steven. (BTW, it's not HD - it's 4K!)
  10. As far as I know, Lithium Ion batteries, such as NP-L7s are already not allowed as cargo. They are however allowed as carry-on.
  11. Sorry, but I have to say that's misleading too. Sound Devices pre-amps are some of the quietest on the market, and certainly good enough. What may have happened was that when pushing the level, it boosted the self noise of the mic.
  12. http://sounddevices.com/support/downloads/664-firmware New features include; - CL-12 linear fader controller is now supported by the 633 and 664 mixer/recorders. - QR Codes for smart phone access to online documentation, including Approved Media List and User Guide - New User Bits mode that allows jamming of external timecode user bits Very cool. Thanks Sound Devices!
  13. Looks like the CMIT 5U is now also available in Chroma Key Green.
  14. How many people use their good headphones to listen to music on the phone anyway? I believe that when they actually remove the 3.5mm jack, they will provide a solution - adapter? Maybe. Or perhaps the new phones will include bluetooth buds. I also bet others (Apogee, B&O? ) will likely come out with better sounding solutions. In the long run, the lightning connector will likely disappear as well. Wireless audio, charging and data transfer. Why not?
  15. The best answer to this would be: call Sound Devices on Monday. Other than that, someone here might be able to advise you, but only if you provide some details about your settings, firmware version - and of course, you are definitely only using cards from the approved media list, right? FWIW - I have used my 664 for almost 3 years and have never experienced any of the symptoms you describe. What exactly do you mean by "keypress beep and slatemic monitoring become erratic "?
  16. The only tools we have are out ears and that stuff that sits between them. Everything else is just accessories.
  17. Ok, does this also work on 6-series? (half way around the globe away from my 664 atm, otherwise I would try it myself) If not, this is my wish!

  19. The bus I'm on right now has priority seating for people with explosive flatulence.
  20. Actually, it says: Nominal capacity:1200mWh (not mah) Nominal voltage:3.6V (??) Also: 2pcs ER 9V 3.6V 1200mWh Lithium Unrechargeable Battery "Unrechargeable" - So I'm guessing NOT rechargeable. Looks confusing / a bit scary to me, but as always - I could be wrong.
  21. Ah, yes. Fire in the fireplace and fired up the vinyl player.... Put on ZZ Top's "Eliminator". Some sweet guitar tones from Mr Billy Gibbons here. Continued Happy Thanksgiving to all ! This brought back some memories from when this was their "new record":
