  1. Haha! For reference - I studied German for 3 years while in school in Sweden, my wife is Japanese, and I have visited Greece 4 times (not for work). I also visited Germany once. Back to the topic... I was lucky enough to keep afloat for the first half of the year. Then it abruptly stopped (worked a grand total of zero days in July). Picking up a few small things now. Hoping negotiations will get resolved, and the strikes will end soon!
  2. About as much related as the German and Japanese languages LOL
  3. The link seems to not work anymore. Did anyone save this, or have a diagram showing how to wire this? Thanks! EDIT: Never mind. Found it. https://www.lectrosonics.com/accessory-links/product/mute.html There's a PDF linked on that page in case anyone else is looking for this.
  4. Depends on what you are trying to do exactly. If all you need is a couple extra line inputs, maybe check out the Audinate AVIO offerings. The true beauty of Dante is (IMHO) if you were to get a wireless receiver with Dante, such as a DSQD - then you'll have 4 channels on one single cat-6 cable instead of 4x XLR cables, with the bonus of freeing up four XLR inputs (mic-pre or line) on the 888.
  5. Keep your short pole for backup/travel/ENG etc., but if you are getting Boom Op gigs, you will need a long pole. At least 16-18ft. The long pole can be used at shorter distances too (just don't extend more than you need), but a short pole may leave you in an awkward situation if you can't reach the action where you need a few more feet. K-Tek and Ambient are my personal favorites, but it's like with everything else - personal preferences. You are in LA, so just go to one of our friendly "usual suspects"; Location Sound Corp. Trew or Audio Dept. check some poles out in person and get a feel for what might be different between them, and pick the one you like.
  6. Keep us posted on how that works out for you! True, the Pulse tents are not cheap, but they are heavy duty work tents, made in USA from urethane coated polyester ---> waterproof, mildew resistant, UV protected, flame retardant. Also, they don't have a "floor", which may help in case you need to move quickly.
  7. Seems like something is off. I use 6061, which is more of a "low sensitivity" version of 6060. I keep my Tx around 24-25, so you should most likely be around where your COS11 was, possibly even lower. 6060 is known for having a very low noise floor, possibly the lowest of any lav mic. - Just my opinion, but micro-dots are fragile, and just silly unless you regularly need to use the mics with a variety of transmitters. I would recommend returning the adapters, and have the mics re-terminated with TA5 connectors specific to your SMV. -Also, your profile says you're in SoCal.... I would highly recommend talking to our "usual suspects" here in L.A: Location Sound Corp., Trew, Audio Dept. They are pro sound shops, and will take care of you and can better recommend things related to pro sound equipment than B/H.
  8. Saw this watching the morning news and really enjoyed the way they presented the story. Iconic, and you will recognize it even if you had no idea. https://www.cbsnews.com/video/an-iconic-hollywood-sound-effect-called-the-wilhelm-scream-was-uncovered-in-an-archive/
  9. Jim, things may have changed. YMMV etc. I only know what happened when I ordered a Digi002 Protools interface from SW back in the day. Before they even shipped it, some guy started calling, and kept calling weekly “to make sure that I had everything I needed”, trying to sell all kinds of stuff to go along with the 002 …. from cables to mics to external pre-amps, speakers, sound proofing etc etc. Yeah…. that was quite a while ago, but it turned me off so much that I would never consider buying from them again.
  10. The website is still up. There was however a pretty long thread in one of the FB groups recently that seemed to indicate a lot of problems since ownership had changed (I think maybe last year?) Apparently the new owner has no background in our business.
  11. “Foggier Window” by Monkish in Torrance. Delicious. Probably the best hazy IPA have ever tasted.
  12. You can still boost trim levels of ch 7-11 on the 664 as well, by going into each fat channel and using the Select knob to adjust trim.
  13. Are you using the direct outs? If so, you are basically using the preamps on the 552 to drive inputs 7-11 on the 664. The direct outs on the 552 should be set to pre-fader. If this is what you are doing, use the trim knobs on the 552 to boost the level.
  14. Yeah….. Kester 44 Solder Wire, 63/37 0.031-in, RMA Rosin, 1-ounce Tube is $12.50 on Amayzon. I’m sticking to that, an open window, holding my breath and hoping for the best lol.
  15. Well, the headphones / cable is also the antenna...
  16. So diluting the value of art in order to save money? Haha! I'm not sure I agree this is the same thing as taking a photo vs painted portrait. Check this out; https://www.wsj.com/articles/i-cloned-myself-with-ai-she-fooled-my-bank-and-my-family-356bd1a3
  17. Maybe… but would you feel that listening to an audio book read by AI with the sound of a famous person’s voice is something you would buy? Isn’t the selling point that “your favorite person” is actually the one reading the book in the way that they interpret the story? Maybe it’s just me, but I would probably have a hard time focusing on the story, being distracted by the fact that “it really sounds like so and so”. And it’s kinda creepy, too haha!
  18. And, additional testing shows the R1a will NOT work with regular wiring. Needs ground tied to pin 3. Hope this helps someone.
  19. Ok, I just got back and did some tests here. All cables I have on hand, some wired the way as I described above - AND the regular wiring as you describe - all work with a PR-216 plugged in to an XLR (line level) on my mixer. Not sure why, but over a decade ago when I had the “specific” cable made, I was told that’s how it needs to be. And weirdly, I did have situations where that particular cable worked on a camera, when the regular cables did not.
  20. I made those cables, and no they do not have 2 and 3 tied together. In what scenario would one do that?
  21. Ok, but that looks like the regular way you would wire a balanced cable. So when you plug in to a balanced XLR on the camera, pin 2 and 3 are now out of phase - the Comtek output is not balanced. I have several cables wired that way, and they work just fine with using a UCR100 as a reference hop, but when I tried using those cables with a Comtek or R1a, there’s no signal - just as the OP is experiencing. When I switched to the wiring I posted above - it worked. BTW - Comtek sells a cable with an RF filter built in for this purpose.
  22. I believe that’s incorrect. I just now tested a cable that I had specifically made for this purpose years ago. Here is the pin out: T - XLR 2 R - XLR 1+3 S - XLR 1+3
  23. The Documentary Sound Guy is right about the cable. It needs to be specifically wired for outputting Comtek to XLR. A regular TRS to XLR won’t work correctly. - I could be wrong, but I have a feeling the same is true for using an R1a in the same way. Can’t remember the exact pin out, but I’m sure you can look it up online. It has to do with the output being mono, but it’s made so that you can plug in stereo headphones and get the mono sound in both ears.
  24. Ok copy that. Sorry Jon, I am out of ideas. And totally agree - none of it makes sense. Including the random time duration each license is valid.
