  1. 1. Cancellation would occur when the sources are 180 degrees out of phase, which is unlikely. What is likely however, is that they will be slightly out of phase, which will give that slightly "hollow" sound. 2. Yes, but if the post mixer wants to mix the two, they can slide the second track (or use a delay) to align it with the first.
  2. If you know the address where you will be staying, order from your favorite usual suspect, and have them ship it there. Battery travel regulations have been discussed heavily here before. Try a search.
  3. Since you mentioned that you have " a full Comtek system" - you could simply put a Comtek Rx on camera... won't sound spectacular, but hey if it's just for scratch/reference.
  4. I use Lectro UM100/UCR100 for scratch mono hops. I've picked them up on eBay (for very good deals) one by one and now have three of the rx. UM100 is not a current product, but pop up occasionally on eBay. The UCR100's 1/8" output is not locking, so make sure to use RA connector and bongo to prevent accidental unplugging.
  5. The thing is - with the 633, you don't need to have the backup battery while swapping the NP battery, because it has an internal power backup that gives you 10 seconds before it shuts down, so yes - you can keep rolling and even swap in the middle of a take if you need to. Note: watch out if you have wireless receivers connected to the same BDS, because they will of course cut out the instant you pull the battery.
  6. Because Time Code does not specify the speed of the camera, nor of any other device.
  7. Got this "swiss army" doohickey in September last year: Kingston 5-in-1 Mobile Companion, Storage, 4640 mAh Charger, Backup and more for iOS and Android (MLWG2) • Extend your storage up to 2TB using USB flash drives, SD cards, • 4640 mAh battery allows you to charge your smartphone • Stream movies, listen to music, and view different photos on multiple mobile devices simultaneously • Backup photos and videos from your camera roll to free up space • Read SD cards and USB flash drives from your mobile device or your PC • Create a Wi-Fi hotspot from a wired Internet connection • Free Google Play, iOS and Kindle Apps available. I have used this device to backup SD cards to a USB thumb drive on location with my phone, watched movies on planes (streaming to an iPad). If put up in a hotel with wired ethernet only internet, this thing can be your wifi router. I got it on Amazon for $30, which I think is amazing for what it does.
  8. One thing to keep in mind is that one second of TC is not the same as one second on the atomic clock. As has been posted out several times above (and in previous other threads on JWS), TC does not control the speed of of the recording, therefore several devices with the same start time code address will drift over time. To remedy this, you need to use gen-lock and word clock, which will keep each frame, no matter how long the recording, aligned with each other.
  9. Sometimes if a cable is not 100% solidly connected to the BDS, it can cause weirdness. Other than that: What firmware version? What card(s) were you using - on approved media list? When you "changed BDS", did you change everything, including power cables? What else is connected to the BDS? Did you try powering from AA batteries with the BDS disconnected? Did you try re-setting the 664 to factory settings? Contact Sound Devices, they are good people and will get you sorted.
  10. Sounds like bullshiznit. If things like that take hold, we will all be doomed. Sounds like some of the things (lessons to be learned) that aspiring actors and musicians have to wade through when they arrive new to L.A. I would advise to stay away. Faaaaaaaar away.
  11. I picked up a 4-pack a little while ago and have done some tests. Not 100% sure it's eneloop re-brand. I got 7h 50min in SMQV vs 8h 20min with eneloop Pro. Still pretty good considering the cost! And enough to get you to lunch. I have used them on a few shoot days already. I figure even if they don't last more than 100 re-charge cycles, it's still a good value. It states on the batteries that they recommend charging at 250mA, but I charge mine in the Maha Powerex at 500mA. After running them "until the wheels came off" in the SMQV, the Maha reported that one charged back to about 2550, the other to about 2650mAh. So far, so good. Let's see what happens in the long run....
  12. Note: 2600 mWh = 2166 mAh. So they should be on par with regular Eneloops. Not that exciting to be honest....
  13. This may be a hint, if you know how old they are: https://zaxcom.com/sanken-partners-with-zaxcom-for-new-cos-11d-lavalier-microphone-designed-for-digital-and-analogdigital-transmitters/
  14. I think this is the best way to go. Considering the investment for said gear, on top of having to focus on too many things, potentially leading to compromised quality of picture and/or sound, I just don't see the advantage of trying to do everything yourself.
  15. To me it looks more like a softie, gaff-taped to the shock mount (brilliant). And - It doesn't look to me like it's pointed at anyone in particular. Also, the wind foam on the SM58 looks like it's loosely hanging on top of the mic, rather than being snugly fit, but that could just be deceptive light/shadow stuff going on in the picture. What else?
  16. Hey Dan, there's nothing wrong with being excited about new technology that make improvements - if this works, I'm all over it! - I'm just a little skeptical about the marketing lingo. Also interesting that it will play in a regular turntable.
  17. Well, as everything else, this is subjective, but: A> The so called "loudness wars" seem to have proven that louder is not always better. I personally believe the reason people like the sound of vinyl better than digital, is that the medium itself dictates limitations, that for example means, that the music can't be overly compressed, and therefore the final master keeps more of the natural dynamics, which (I believe) sounds more pleasing and less fatiguing on the ears. If you want to listen to something at a louder volume - simply turn it up. B> How exactly do they define, or measure "double the audio fidelity" of anything? Will AC/DC's "Highway To Hell" sound twice as good as it used to? Will I be able to hear what brand of sneakers they were wearing while they were recording?
  18. There was a thread on this recently. Basically: Under 100Wh, Carry-on = unlimited. Put in individual sleeves / pouches (and tape over the terminals). Check-in baggage = No.
  19. My personal philosophy echoes what Jose, Codyman and Steven have already said: - You will never be good at <something> unless it's interesting to you. So yeah, pick a topic that thrills you, and write the crap out of it... you'll be fine.
  20. I'm sorry to be a downer, but when they state things like "30% greater volume, and double the audio fidelity of a typical LP sold today" I tune out. (Don't forget to send in your speaker cables for calibration!)
