  1. Hello, Wondering if there is such a thing as a simple adapter from the WRT trans style connector of ECM88 to locking 1/8". I've been looking but not sure what terms to search on. Thanks, Rich
  2. Always interesting to see a spectrum of preferences. I should clarify that I was wondering more about when the lav can be fully visible but a furry cover would be too distracting. Sounds like the Rycote foam upgrades get a mixed review...maybe depends on the mic size. I wonder if some kind of benevolent post-it like adhesive could help hold the darn foamies on. DS, Where did you pick up proper foam to make a customized cover? Rado, thanks for mentioning Koala..forgot bout that brand. I have a lightwave zep that needs a furry. Maybe the Koala max is the ticket.
  3. I see Rycote makes some foam lav windscreens but wonder if anyone has real world comparisons. Thanks, Rich
  4. Anyone had their older suspension upgraded to lyre? Wondering about cost and whatever else is involved. Thanks!
  5. I used the 442's 1/8" tape out into H4N line in the other day and it sounded decent. Nice that an inexpensive slender cable could be routed there. But the fact that it doesn't lock is a good point. I suspect the Beachtek/60D cam audio will be used anyway. A thread somewhere else had folks claiming, despite the drawbacks of going through the H4N preamp, going XLR mic out to XLR mic in avoids impedance issues and gives better results. Regarding pads, another option is made by Sontronics called ST-PAD/PHASE. Has two independent 10db switches and a phase invert switch. But I only wish "my Zoom H4n went robust!". As in suddenly gained timecode in.
  6. Looks like a very low profile possibility for sneaking in a hyper.
  7. Eh..sorry to hear this. A few days ago was recording from ground as talent went up in a manlift. I heard him ask the operator if he was required to have training..couldn't hear the operator response but the talent said "No?" Later a camera op was up in it and a sensor got confused and wouldn't let it come down. And it was cold. They had to drive the bucket to a patio and jump a bit to land on it. I thought for sure something awful was going to happen.
  8. "Fraud may be too strong a word." Loony?
  9. "adds up to 20K of resolutionadds up to 20K of resolution" From other posts here, might add up to more (or less) than that;) Was it 5 angles or 4 backups?
  10. Phillip, Thanks for the explanation. By the looks of things, sure seems like we need a new wireless tech that isn't trying to push back on this potential tsunami.
  11. Anyone have a minute to translate significance of this for a newbie? I'm in Wisconsin/Chicago area. Don't own wireless because of the sense of uncertainty.
  12. (FWIW: and at great risk of ridicule in this high end community, I have an SCM410 for sale.)
  13. Does this mean owners of wireless units an get grandfathered/protected from interference in a given area?
  14. Kinda miss the one stop shop of personal attacks, tempting leads on grey market shoes, porn links and the occasional audio related thread.
  15. I just remember that look on Jon's face when he said something like "that's a smart little box". Seems to have got him to thinkin'.
  16. Them Sconnie guys are smart. Have to stop over there someday. I guess Mr. Tatoole's NAB encounter with Nomad got him ta thinkin'. You could see the wheels turning in that video clip.
  17. Ha! Maybe a T-shirt like that would be popular But seriously, first government restricting access to trans fats, now dictating RDA of location sound. Soon we'll have to trade car bone credits against our AA battery use.
  18. Hmm..considering wind protection is ya know, inherently, an outdoor issue, wonder what drives the use of shorter mics in Europe? More use of radio mics? Heavier reliance on/availability of tight shots to get dialog? Maybe I'll just ask Jeff
  19. Hmm...strange Zephyx would design for one size and stop there.
  20. "You can use the built in mics simultaneously with the inputs on the H4n" I don't think you can use the H4N mini, XLR and onboard mics simultaneously..which it seems the Roland can do. Couldn't iso them anyway with just 4 tracks. I suppose the Roland's helpful if you somehow get that tripod mounted unit into a sweet spot and control/monitor from mixer. Eh..again..the quality of inputs and accuracy/lack of drift might make it more useful. It sure looks like a ripoff/upgrade of H4N...if there was a H6N.
  21. How's the groovy collapsible blimp working? I liked the idea of that and was disappointed it was discontinued...
  22. Great thread here, folks. And it would be great if all cams offered a defeatable limiter..sucky as it may sound. Sure beats only having AGC or shooting (audio) commando when no audio crew is possible.
  23. At first glance, similar input structure (2 combo neutriks, 2 mini) as H4N with added option of using built in mics. How much of an advantage is that worth? Depends on price and quality of analog ins and limiter, methinks.
  24. Wow Nate, that must've been a wild realization! A doco within a doco
