  1. Thanks to early scouting reports, we abandoned plans to storm The Chieftain (since hundreds of SF Giants fans had already done so) and instead ended up at a bar in The Palace hotel. The World Series, the last-hour location change, and a small show all affected turnout. Bumped into most everyone I expected to on the show floor and had plenty of time to check out equipment and chat socially. I'd guess some folks had their fill after a few hours on show floor. So after the show we had a select group. Three of the world's preeminent mixers, three young turks, a leading equipment developer, and some other guy. But we had a nice time, tasty snacks, and a great conversation. Thanks all. Next Year, in Vegas!
  2. Jonah, the feedback is based on the audience. I'd guess, but don't know, there aren't many people even lurking regularly on this forum who fit your target market. I think you'd have better success aiming at documentary and indie filmmaker forums and email lists and making the rental an easy choice. Maybe present your stuff as a complete sound package (or two) with several add-on options (e.g., the comtek). To make sure people get off on the right foot, perhaps write up a simple survival guide --or copy a few key pages from user manuals-- so customers will know, for example, how to set up frequencies and levels with your Lectro systems. You're offering gear that's a good step up from DSLR+Zoom. So go after people who are outgrowing that stuff. HTH -Jim
  3. That's where I fell in love with the woman who's now my wife (we were rebuilding Glencree). Ah, the memories...
  4. I'd guess this is just a bridge until spinning media goes away and everything's SSD. Let's say that'll happen within 24 months.
  5. This looks to be a good rundown of how Apple's Fusion Drive works: http://www.anandtech.com/show/6406/understanding-apples-fusion-drive Two key graphs: ===== With Fusion Drive enabled, Apple creates a 4GB write buffer on the NAND itself. Any writes that come in to the array hit this 4GB buffer first, which acts as sort of a write cache. Any additional writes cause the buffer to spill over to the hard disk. The idea here is that hopefully 4GB will be enough to accommodate any small file random writes which could otherwise significantly bog down performance. Having those writes buffer in NAND helps deliver SSD-like performance for light use workloads. That 4GB write buffer is the only cache-like component to Apple's Fusion Drive. Everything else works as an OS directed pinning algorithm instead of an SSD cache. In other words, Mountain Lion will physically move frequently used files, data and entire applications to the 128GB of NAND Flash storage and move less frequently used items to the hard disk. The moves aren't committed until the copy is complete (meaning if you pull the plug on your machine while Fusion Drive is moving files around you shouldn't lose any data). After the copy is complete, the original is deleted and free space recovered. ===== But read the rest of the article; it's not that long.
  6. Phil, ya, it does break X2PRO: URGENT NOTICE *** Please note that X2Pro v2.0 does NOT support the new Final Cut Pro v10.0.6 released on 23 October 2012. Watch this space for an update very soon. *** Sigh. Hopefully "very soon" means very soon.
  7. Jeff, I read Steve's post differently. Not as a quote but as a quick rundown of what he'd suggest. And he brings up the Sennheiser 2000 wireless, systems we don't talk much about here and that seem like decent candidates to fill the gulf between G2/G3 systems and less-expensive Lectro systems . So that's useful. Sure he'd like to sell the stuff to Mr. Book, but I thought his post fit into the spirit and wanderings of this thread. If he'd built it out like a forma quote, ya that'd be too much. But perhaps I'm being naive. To Mr. Book's question, the only thing I can think to add is consider used equipment, especially for wireless and your exterior and interior boom mics.
  8. A heads up: It's looking increasingly likely that the San Francisco Giants will be playing in Detroit on the 28th. The game will start at 5pm Pacific. So The Chieftain might be VERY crowded. Hopefully we'll be able to find a spot to gather and chat...but forewarned is forearmed...
  9. Eric, I'm still using an older IDX ION-2... Which IDX charger are you using?
  10. Well Alan and Peter are positive about The Chieftain on 5th and Howard. That's pretty close. Hotel Utah's great, but does seem a little far and isn't a great walk. So how about The Chieftain? http://www.thechieftain.com/
  11. In a similar vein, there's this from 12-13 years ago:
  12. I had something like this happen in St. Louis a few months ago. On Block 24, within a couple miles of Scott Air Force Base. Didn't happen last time I was near there... But that's all anecdotal. However, these days I'm gathering more personal anecdotes of near-total (and apparently temporary) RF wipeouts. Not that this helps you much... Sorry.
  13. So what makes you think it's an inside job? A quick googling finds a picture of what the church says is the trailer that was stolen: http://www.wearemission.com/trailer/ Theft happens. Inside jobs happen, but not nearly as often as outside jobs. [oops...added a missing "not" to the last phrase...Thanks Senator for the heads up]
  14. This is a great thread. Jeff, hope you get what you want... and I hope we see more results like Justin's...
  15. Arsen, check out some of the books mentioned in this thread. Ya, these are in English but I'm pretty sure many of them have helpful and clear photographs and illustrations:
  16. That --plus potential wasted time-- is why I wanted someone else to dive in first. :-) Could be the developer characterized various iPhone mics and somewhat addressed this issue. But I think what people like Onyx and Oscium are doing is pretty cool (if not yet targeted directly at us): http://www.oscium.com/
  17. Cool. $15. Ya, that should be an impulse purchase...but has anyone here tried this app? Any thoughts?
  18. Tiltdown Man, Here's thread of which Pierre speaks. Good questions from us; good answers from Lectro:
