  1. +1 for stingray junior. There are only 2 things I would change.... :-)
  2. I imagine maintaining the gear is a big part of it.
  3. In the age of free downloads I quite like the idea of having a few favourites on such a format, especially if original recording were analogue. In a way its a bit like 'how many times will I listen to a particular tune' vs 'how many tunes have I downloaded'.
  4. Ok. I was thinking ZFR300+ERXTCD3 would have a better chance of providing an audio sync track on the camera beside me than trying to maintain a monitor signal for the more mobile talent mics. Drop outs on an audio sync track would not be so critical especially if the alternative is a DSLR with only* 1 of the follow: camera mic or traditional audio hop or TC device for sync. * it is possible to have a splitter cable into a DSLR but ops might go for 1 box, 2 boxes is pushing - if they're hiring sound they want the audio from my bag and an easy way to sync it. TC and QC grade audio track is pretty good to this end. Maybe ZFR400 has more powerful QC TX and OLED :-)
  5. It kind of is. Ie. big, heavy, expensive and not practical to use :-)
  6. Is it possible to use a ZFR300 + ERX3TCD as a method of sending TC and a scratch track to camera from mixer/recorder? Is the ZFR300 mono or stereo as well?
  7. Listening back to a test recording at the beginning of the day and (first/last) takes during the day is also recommended (however smug you feel about your RMs :-). And having a industry standard option for sending a (monitored) BU to camera is not so bad either.
  8. so the rodelink has a totally manual level adjustment? I don't think the sennheiser AVX does.
  9. How are you / TX setting the i/p level when using as a hop?
  10. I tried 1 on at a industry show - ok concept if it had a way of un hooking/removing the bulk of the gear from your self quickly but getting in and out every time you want a break seemed ridiculous to me. The best bit is the boom holder.
  11. Sheesh, I recently tried to buy 1 of these but I was a bit too enthusiastic and my friend decided to keep it! I'll ask him again in a year when he's realised he'll probably never look at it again :-) d r

  13. And there are 2 different dual receivers available for the system.
  14. On the other hand, if the kit is not on show, bicycles are very under the radar - no one expects a fortunes worth of sound kit in bicycle pannier, more likely some geography books and a packed lunch.
  15. I've gone back to using a shoulder strap (when I can) because it's lighter and quicker to get the bag on and off and give my back a rest. That's why I'm interested in a single action, 1 handed quick release (like ortlieb panniers) for the harness. The portabrace audio vest looked interesting til i realised there is no easy way of taking the equipment from it - so to enjoy a few minutes of downtime means taking the whole thing off, ugh! The other thing I've noticed is the more you look down (at the kit) the worse it is for neck and back - it sounds obvious but no one's made 'head up' display for us. As for the back-pack rigs, nice in theory but when you get 5 minutes between shots I don't want to spend most of that time getting in and out of 'costume' :-) I'd quite like to see a wide waist belt designed to be (semi) permanently attached to 1 side of the bag so some of the things which need to be connected like batteries and hops etc can be distributed around my waist and reduce the forward profile of the bag. It would need to have a buckle operated by 1 hand (ie 1 half firmly attached to the bag) as the other hand would be holding the bag (and boom ). Oh, and Titanium XLRs! My best solution so far is: ~ Shoulder strap to get the thing on/off quickly and alternate shoulders if need be. ~ The lightest bag the gig will allow, including lightweight cables. If its a 3 channel gig I'm using my 633 in a Ktek junior. ~ Use a small back pack to carry the bits and pieces i used to keep in the mixer bag and balance off some of the weight up front (hodges effect?). ~ Trust my ears and don't look down so much. d r Ps. I really like the 'kick stand' on the Ktek junior - I'd like to see a bag which will take a tripod plate. I sometimes hang the bag from a lighting stand but it's hard to get a nice working angle.
  16. Hi Fabian, These guys should be able to help: http://www.micronwireless.co.uk/contact-us/ Back in the day these were some of the best RMs available and the 'xmas tree' displays were are quite cool. You might find spares and accessories here: https://www.bblist.co.uk/ https://www.bblist.co.uk/search.php?keyword=micron http://www.bettersound.co.uk/contact-us.html But given you are in Uruguay it might just be easier to replace the power connectors. d r

    Sony UWP-D

I used to supplement my audio 2020s with the earlier UWP units (I still use them for monitors because they have an HP o/p and level control). I chose them over the G3s at the time because I found their diversity system to hold a more reliable connection with the TX than the G3s. On the other hand, to me they sound a little flatter and more compressed (cos-11 caps used on both systems). I don't know about the latest version, but the original UWP didn't o/p line level. I subsequently moved onto lectro 411as and then Senny G2000s (and hopefully about to try out the new EK6042 with some SK9000s :-). I thought the UWPs was quite good value and as such their low resale value was not a problem for me. IIRC, despite the new UWP system having an intergrated DSP the latency is very low and both the TX and RX can be powered through a usb port. I quite like the look of the dual receiver especially as it can take a 3rd i/p from a 'top mic' which makes it very versatile for camera ops.
  18. I don't think what you're saying is "off topic" at all. Whatever people's personal reasons for voting 'brexit' may have been, the rhetoric around the vote in Britain and across Europe seems to have legitimised the kind of 'in your face racism' I associate with the Britain of the 1970's and before. I am afraid the abhorrent rise in racist agendas, abuse and attacks will be with us for sometime. Voters are no longer interested in facts and context, the guy with a big mouth spouting hyperbole, lies, denials, misrepresentation and accusation appeals to voters on an emotional level and the mob feel vindicated. I woke up on June 24 and it was like an evil father xmas had delivered hate or fear to most households in the country. The 'brexiteers' laughing off the gullibility of the voters, retract almost every promise and commitment they said 'brexit' would deliver, while the tiny majority of people who got what they were told they wanted, celebrate poisoning the political landscape of Britain and maybe Europe for a generation. Sad times. I'm guessing the experiences you describe are hard to document and evidence but I would consider naming and shaming (anonymously), especially the equipment dealers(!). But then again it could be psychologically damaging if you discover most other people in your market just don't care and your actions could damage your career even further than these goons are trying to do. This is a total disgrace and an embarrassment for all Europeans. I have just been reminded while watching PMQ's it was only 21 years ago 8000 Muslim Bosniaks were the victims of genocidal murder in the European town of Srebrenica - we are all closer to such events than we can often bare to remember - giving 'air time' to racialised rhetoric assuages nothing but it does gestate hate to murderous levels. d r
  19. It's a big, beautiful world, even for some of the other 99.99999999 % of humanity who aren't PSMs so relax, my only "bias" here is I love a bit of hyperbole and I was just having some fun with it - as I thought JB was.
  20. This is a forum populated by the fastidious and sometimes pedantic, where caveats are appreciated whatever your personal bias maybe. I'm fairly sure if Zaxcom could claim to have "introduced the world to nonlinear recording" it would be clearly stated on their website and maybe even included the wikipedia pages: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_disk_recorder and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_recording (not least as they would probably be the only commercially available products of this kind in North America :-)). But I do accept audio recording systems offered by likes of RADAR and Fairlight (amongst others) might not be portable in the bagable and powerable sense the first deva was. But in regard to how you phrased support for your favourite brand there were others before Zaxcom and the "world" is a bigger place than Zaxcom's effective footprint and you would seem to perceive it as. Nothing personal John, but I've made donation and have just as much right to question the accuracy of a statement as you do. Btw is you "record priority" switch a custom thing you made yourself or something commercially available to other nomad users? By the sounds of it there are others out there who may appreciate some more info about this fix.
  21. "Zaxcom's Deva introduced the world to nonlinear recording." Even Zaxcom don't go as far as this hyperbole. Do you get personalised serial numbers or something? :-p
  22. Been thinking of something very similar for a few years just not got round to it. I want to use something like the ortlieb quick release hooks on the bag: https://www.ortlieb.com/en/e192/ And maybe something like a kiteboard waist harness to hang it off: http://www.live2kite.com/mystic-majestic-waist-harness-grey-2014-pi-1982.html?image=1 The main point of the system being a lot of support so mixer bag doesn't bounce around on my abdomen and it being very quick (2 seconds) to get on and off. Having a few bicycles means I've got the ortlieb bits. Living in London and not in a surf scene means I don't have anything like the waist harness I mention to play around with.
  23. Excuse me, I'm new this level of TC metadata integration - is there much point in using the Ambient®Recording's ACN-Master Lockit (or similar) unless the camera department have 1 on their Alexa (or similar)?
