It's Charleston, so I wear many hats, but most of my work is in audio, DPing, and drones. I started out in photography around 2002, got into video when the 5D Mark II came out, got into audio around 2010, and have been droning / Part 107 since around 2016. I've been livestreaming live events since around 2010, have crewed countless shoots, one-man-banded a few dozen, been around the world a couple of times, speak four languages, had careers in IT and robotics, and am an honorably discharged US Army vet.

I have entirely too much gear to list individually, but here's my small rental house link: https://shootrentals.com/

    Yes
  1. Maybe I should get one of those $150 pocket spectrum analyzers as well. I talked to Sennheiser tech support, and they told me the following: - raising the receiver antenna should help (I might just tape the RX to a C stand and raise it up; ghetto, but it can't hurt to try) - using a rack unit with better antennae should help --- of course, raising those better antennae will help even more
  2. Jon - the TX keeps moving around, as it's attached to the football coach Jon/Eric - that's what worries me, that I'm at the limit of what 30mW will give me... unless getting better antennae on a better RX would solve it.
  3. It starts breaking up at a certain distance (say, 40 yards), then just goes into full static farther out.
  4. Hey all, I need to solve an issue, either by improving functionality of current gear (Sennheiser EW 100 ENG G3 system), or possibly stepping up to a better system. The issue: - talent (football coach) wearing G3 lav - distant (still on-field, or no more than 20-30ft from field) camera with same-band/frequency G3 small receiver not picking up the audio So, could I solve this by picking up a rack-mount RX, the EM 100 G3, with its included antennae? If not, would better antennae work, and if so, which? If not, what would be your recommendation for a real solution? I can't drop several K on a new Lectro, so I might have to rent...
  5. Ha! "I took this thing out of the box, and it's nothing like my t2i. It totally sucks!" Umm, yeah, you don't say...
  6. I've owned one within the first week of release, and still love it, I just wish Nappy (better, Senator?) would continue to tweak the firmware, or better yet, make available an upgrade like they've done with the AC160 (the other serious camera I own). As you've probably seen yourself, DVXUser is awash in great, entirely doable ideas (1:1, dual-slot recording, audio in VFR, etc.). On a related note, someone used my camera (not in VFR mode, mind you), and was then upset with me because it didn't record any audio. The mic switches were set to external, and they mistook the focusing bar for the audio meter. I almost literally facepalmed myself when I heard that
  7. A lot of people got burned, myself included (though my case wasn't critical), when the AF100 first came out, before Panny updated the firmware to show that audio was not being recorded in VFR mode. They've yet to address the -12dB line though, and seem to have abandoned the camera altogether :/
  8. I do audio when my other work (shooting video and stills) is slow, so lately I've been getting very familiar with my audio gear. Oh, and I do my other work when I'm not doing my full time job. ... but for fun, and when I have the time, I ride my motorcycle (therapy), read, play video games (Fallout 3: New Vegas, and Hunters:2, lately), etc.
  9. (bump for pics of the connector/cable) I've been using the complete Minis (yes, with DC-AC inverter) for all kinds of stuff, including running plugging in the SD AC-DC adapter to run my SD 442. I've only recently begun thinking about connecting the battery pack directly to the 442 and/or 744T; I figure there's a lot of efficiency, not to mention weight to be gained by skipping the DC > AC > DC conversion.
  10. This might've already been suggested, but why not buy something inexpensive on site, or at least on the same continent? Sure, you can't find a Walmart or Harbor Freight everywhere, but there might be a local equivalent.
  11. My clients and I have been happy with the Oktava MK012 as well as the AKG CK93.
