  1. When I bought my 1g-wifi combo a long time ago, there was the recommendation for a 50Ohm termination not included in the package, when the thing travels through luggage X-rays. That however is a completely different beast than some antenna amplified or not, what it is made for.
  2. Mouser and usual suspects seem to list PFB.00.303 for various cable diameters that Tentacle refers to for their product.
  3. Originally, vaporware refers tosomething advertised that never made it to the market. However, I am sure you can buy some gazillion of a particular lemo connector in some 20foot high cube container to a local port near you. The fact that Lemo lists a product, is able to mass produce it or has done so in the past does not mean, you can buy small quantities from Mouser, Farnell, etc.
  4. Use the support chat on the Lemo website. They are very helpful and give you a thorough answer (that you can post here ;-)). They will guide you to their catalog and pages with naming conventions, including kink protections. I've done so, looking for a cabled counterpart for the FVB to make adapters for Wisycom/Sennheiser lavs to locking miniTRS. However when I knew the Lemo article number(s), I found out that they were more or less vaporware on the market. There were a few small offers from china and on ebay, but the best solution for my needs was: https://shop.tentaclesync.com/product/tentacle-track-e-microphone-adapter-3pin-lemo-to-3-5mm-mini-jack/ The connector at least looked resolderable to me and can be taken apart and reassembled without any special tools. However it's really fumbly and I don't recommend doing so in the field. Besides, Tentacle may be not very shy of telling what connector they used if you ask them.
  5. A thing I never understood is, why low cuts, either build in or as a module, are recommended here or there on boom mics. Most devices we connect a boom mic to, either a recorder or some TX provide a low cut, presumably in the analog input stage. Is there any advantage to have a low cut close to or within the mic?
  6. Schoeps also features the W20 R1 with a similar design as Leo and Baseball.
  7. Dumping this thread for reference: My 2 ct: I am pretty happy with my PCS Boom Cons and may expand my collection with other products of the PCS ecosystem. A feature no other system has, afaik. I prefet the Boom Con pulling operation a lot more to the QuickLock twist. Dirt/Sand is an obvious nogo for these mechanics. (neither is salt water, as they involve springs). If I'd work regularly on beaches I might prefer solutions from SGS or Panamic or alike.
  8. Here are two CMC 1 L with MK 41, one in a Rycote INV the other in a Cinela Osix. The bigger W 20 windscreen does not fit on the Cinela version, as it is too heavy and the mic is too short. The smaller B 20 S does work though. With the W 20 the back clip from the Inv gets loose from time to time and might need some modding or a B 20 S.
  9. Hey Constantin... Thnx for the input. I've researched some of these spy cams, but I'll stick to this particular action cam. mostly due to availability of accessories and since it is a camera that is made to be moved around.
  10. Hey Paul, many thnx for the input. I will think about it but it seems to have some disadvantages for my application. I work with different plugon TX models from different owners. Wisycom variants are quite popular though. On rainy days, we usually put ultrasound probe covers (basically dry condoms without a reservoir) over the thing. For those reasons, I'd want to avoid any permanent fixture on the TX. But the iOttie might be a solution to mount a small smartphone running the godforsaken Teradek VUER app.
  11. I don't see how TX is more protected on the K-Tek than on a QALP. It also depends on the model. A short cable roughly in the desired length would run around the pole anyhow. The QALP can rotate around the boom when you loosen the knob. The actual question of the QALP is, if it is still available. I mostly run Wisycom MTB40(s) and it's XLR is not as stiff and solid as desired. I usually fix it with a bongo tie and some sort of spacer that is around, either some folded cardboard or a pipe clip like this: In the long run I might abandon my QALP though and fix the TX on a plates fitted with pipe clips. Either at the bottom or at the top, depending on the situation. This'll make assembly and disassembly much easier than fumbling with spacers and ties.
  12. There is the QALP: Could also be used with a custom short XLR cable. Edit: It seems, they do not advertise it any more as an accessory product, but they may or may not have some as cable kit spare parts. I'd ask them. The coiled cable kits vary in internal cable noise depending on the model though.
  13. The frame will roughly be the POV of the mic but with the mic slightly on the edge of the frame. It can be used in sync, split screen or PiP, with the actual footage or other making of cameras.
  14. I am not even sure where to put this topic, so it ends up in the camera department. I've seen some shots on YT some time ago with some GoPro or alike on a boom during take in the past. I can't find them anymore, but it was, in a way, pretty cool portraying our craft. It seems I have a 20min or so sequence shot coming up in a month or so. Hidden cuts expected. Booming this, I'd love to provide some making of footage. So far, the lightest thing my research found was the DJI Action 2, but it's the mounting accessories and their weight specs. struggle me. Has anyone done such a thing in the past or watched it or has any other thoughts beyond "don't put more weight on the boom on sequence shots". And BTW sequence shot experience is also welcome, though I do have some. Thnx
  15. Thank you for your experiences. It is always good to know what to keep an ear on. I've just bought a used unit and appreciate it very much. I've worked with a factory new Invision HG hosting an MKH50 and it worked fine.
  16. Thanks for the input. I did ask DPA some time ago what they used for the DAO4000. After some back and forth they said it is "3031-40 black" and seems to be the big brother of the 2697. When I did some spool tests, I was surprised, what difference 0.192mm in nominal diameter makes.

This forum has taught an helped me so much over the years, thank you so much, Jeff! I consider my donation an investment I should have done a long time ago.
  18. Thnx. The X symbol looked somehow familiar.
  19. I came across this photo on a China based offer for XLRs but could not identify the TX holder.
  20. Not the heads, as far as I remember, but the cables:
  21. Well here is the current state in situ. After 1,5 days, I think only the lower two disks have an effect. It is indeed a starquad Belden 1804A. I've made my experiences on how to treat the cable well. Eventually, I'll have it on a retractable reel. I've been thinking of cotton sleeves, but I think the damping effect is minimal and the stiffening effect would be a lot better with some plastic. But both make the cable thicker, obviously and I might eventually implement a retractable reel, that will prevent the cable hitting the boom issue.
  22. Well, it glues. I bought it for a phone repair project and I like the small tip that allows for precise application. I have never removed it, as of yet, but as I believe it comes soft with heat application. Cleaning petrol, Isopropyl, spirit, orange oil based cleaners would be my first approach.
  23. I have an older QX5100 that came with internal cabling when I bought it used in like new condition. I began to like straight internal cabling for various applications but this still brings disadvantages. Most annoying is the cable management, when you have a TX on the bottom of the boom, but also noise when the cable is bouncing in the boom when fully expanded. Since the cable that came with it got stuck a lot, mistreated and crincled the boom needed a new cable. The boom was also on a beach catching some blowing sand and it was time for some new velours as it also started to squeak with heavy load. As all that maintenance was due anyway, I've asked a friend to print me some washer like disks that keep the cable in place. They do not eliminate cable noises inside the boom as much as expected, but still a bit. What they do well, is guiding the cable when it is pushed out during collapse. I still have to see if the disks hold, but I wanted to share the project with you, even if it turns out to be a failure.
  24. I am experimenting with some mods on my QX5100. I've replaced the velours and I am rewiring with 1804A. A friend printed me these disks that perfectly snap in on the end of the pipe and glued them with B7000. I'll see, how they hold. In first tests, it seems, that there is less cable noise with 1804A and the disks, but not as much as expected. However, the disks seem to help a lot in pushing out the cable keeping it straight. The 1804A is a lot less stiff than the original cable Ambient used, which is not a wanted feature for pushing out the cable. I am waiting for some spring loaded reels to arrive that I can hopefully fit the 1804A with. I'll continue in a new DIY thread.
