  1. Whatever it is - it is absolutely not a confirmation of any sort of innovation or uniqueness. :-(
  2. Norman Brown may well be your man. I believe he is a bit of a Dolby god. norbro@talk.com

I 'think' that you can get utilities that will allow you to read udf discs within windows etc.... I seem to remember that usually the problem is that the CD/DVD drive on your computer does not read udf formatted discs. iirc, udf is the format on most/many cf cards Have you tried to read it on a mac? v 2.22 is on the Fostex website. no mention of 2.25 there https://www.fostexinternational.com/docs/tech_support/software_updates.shtml
  4. Ironic indeed. I had a fairly heated exchange with Daniele some time ago when he announced them and I dared to suggest that they were an exact ripoff of Ursa. He went to great lengths to explain that they must be completely different because he 'has a patent'. I questioned this, and after quite a lot of bad tempered to and fro we finally got to the facts..... being that he has registered an EU trademark.... which is not exactly the same thing in any way - in fact it is basically a form filling excercise. I absolutely applaud invention and innovation in our business, and the people who work hard and risk their own money, in order to make products that make our working day easier and more efficient. I see neither of these attributes in Viviana Straps, which makes me very sad.
  5. Wow.... I love my HMD26s ;-) and no need to mod them. That said - my previous were HD250Mk2, which I had to massively modify to make them workable ;-) sb
  6. But if you have a regular Mix Pre 10T, and add the $99 plugin, you should have the best of both worlds surely?? sb
  7. Prices seem very reasonable. may I ask what defines the 8mm measurement? Is it the grey plastic bit between the clear lighty uppy bits? Is the 8mm measurement 8mm because that is the way it comes. Could it be possible to have 0.5mm milled off this material? I would suggest that there is no need to make a skirt to make it mount in a case or on a panel. All I would suggest is maybe a screw thread (or two) in the base of the PSU, so that I can screw it to a flat panel. It simply needs an easy way to mount securely onto a surface. I genuinely think you should look into a way of making quite a lot of these - at least a way of being able to pull down batches of the PSUs, and to have a load of battery modules ready to go. Obviously ordering in greater quantities will bring economies of scale, lower prices. Have you thought about when you might try to make a first batch? I'd commit to one straight away. Many thanks, Simon B
  8. This looks like a great idea, and a very neat execution. I would definitely include mounting options - charger cases are becoming more popular these days. I too would be interested to know the price. Good luck, Simon B
  9. I overheard that the new Alexa has two of the old Alexa chips turned on their sides, and stuck side by side!!!!! sb
  10. How very, very, sad..... I had great times with my Chinhda cart - it absolutely changed the way I worked. He was a very clever engineer indeed. Had he been ill? This has come somewhat out of the blue for me. RIP Chinhda...... sb

  13. Great review Chris, of a great product. I tried a unit at Everything Audio a few months ago - it was clearly the best of the crop, even in a swift demo. sb
  14. Of course your ears were that much younger back then ;-) sb
  15. MS relies on the 2 mics being as close together as possible. If you set them up more than a few inches part you will just get a load of phasey nastiness. Many post production folks have little or no understanding of MS stereo. I have found it best, as a general rule, to deliver the MS mic tracks as 'regular', LR stereo, ie to matrix the tracks within the mixer/recorder and deliver them to post as L and R, this avoids much confusion. I have done a lot of MS stereo work over the years, and I disagree with Malcolm (who I also have enormous respect for). I feel that there can be and is a perfectly reasonable space for MS stereo in film making ;-) Good luck, Simon B
  16. How much material might they need to sync up? If it is just a few long takes then you could make it as simple as a finger click or hand clap at the start of each take. Does the Tentacle not have the ability to put an audio guide track on one channel of the camera/DSLR audio, and the TC on the other? You could match the audio files to the guide track? sb
  17. If you go for helmet, be aware that a mic taped to the inside (underside) of the rim can sometimes sound very 'odd', or strange. Test in advance. sb
  18. Wow, Bgaullier - I am so impressed with your storage - it is SO neat and tidy. I am humbled ;-) sb
  19. Doing your test with the units 3" apart might be skewing the result. The 2 Tx may be swamping the RX. Have you tried the same test, but separate the units by say 6ft or maybe more? Good luck, sb
  20. I believe that the 12v maximum is to do with the regulators inside the Rx. I would not offer them over volts as this may well precipitate the demise of the power regulators. The earlier suggestion of an NP1 with regulated 12v OPs is a good one, and could work for various battery forms and/or distro systems. Could you give us more info about what other kit you intend to run in your rig (some other kit may have a 12v OP eg)? It could also be that you could have a lead made for the 12v mas Rx that could have a regulator in the lead ;-) Audio 'may' be in the office over the next few days. Try calling them - they are very friendly, and very very helpful. Enjoy the festivities ;-) Simon B
  21. Mining on school PCs is unlikely to do very well as their individual hashrate is going to be so slow, but... I guess if you direct some hundreds of PCs at it and pool any results then you might have a chance. I'd be interested to know the hashrate of a standard lowish spec school PC vs an S9 or similar? In fact - a quick search tells me an average PC might get 1-100MHs, vs an S9 at 14THs. You would need an awful lot of school PCs to make it worthwhile losing your job over ;-) sb
