Hi, I have a Coles 4104 that sounds good, but the noise of the preamp is very noticeable when I turn it up to the level needed. Ive tried 3 different preamps with similar results. Its the same noise of a preamp that is heard when turning up the gain without a mic loading it. When I connect the microphone, the noise is the exact same, but combined with the microphones signal. Searching online I don't see any mention of this issue. Could anyone who has used this microphone describe their experience? I've used other, much cheaper, ribbon microphones and never noticed this level of noise. Thanks, Rodrigo

Hi. I modified this amp a bit to work for guitar. It only has a 6x5 rectifier , a 6aq5a power and a 12ax7 preamp tube. The 4th tube originally in the circuit was for the tape head, so I extracted it and aimed towards a fender champ. I matched it with an old cabinet that had a Jensen 12" alnico and am happy with how smooth it sounds. I am trying to find out what system this amp was part of. Its very similar to the Moviola amps, but this one had the playback head and tape guide wheels on the amp itself, where the moviola had a separate unit for that. The second photo shows it in original form. Any clue I'd appreciate. Thanks

Glad we reached a consensus. Its does sound nice already when I ran it with a synth, and I still have work to do in the preamp section . Also curious about controlling the capstan motor speed, I believe its DC .

Hi, I have a Teac r1000, which is 4 track 2 channels, and have restored the transport to good working condition. My plan is to use it as a delay, so am searching for full track mono heads for it. If I do find compatible heads, would the circuit in the preamp section of the deck for the three heads most likely need modifications, or could I simply use one of the 2 channels to work with the mono head by making the necessary calibration adjustments? If I recall correctly, on that receiver, line output audio is lower than rx900. -10dbv. I got one converted by Zaxcom many years ago, to raise output level and was then able to feed cameras line level signal without issue, when used as a camera hop. Rodrigo

That pad, as I understand it, would prevent distortion in the cmc or the preamp input. it isn't the the cmc or the mic preamp that is distorting. This seems to work well for many in a studio setting, but too bulky for a bag after converting to ta3, and they are calibrated to +18dbu, which would not allow me to adjust gain within the 633. http://www.prismsound.com/music_recording/products_subs/overkiller.php no issues on inputs 1-3

No. I have had similar issues using other preamps, including a mixpre-d, and MP1, both with very effective limiters, which did help but occasionally I would still get distorted pops. I haven't had issues with radio mics, which makes me wonder if the lower frequencies of a boom microphone might cause the distortion. in all cases the audio levels were within safe range. I will build a simple zener diode clamper and see what happens. thanks

+40dBu is for XLR inputs set to line level. ta3 inputs don't have the analog limiter xlr inputs do.

Hello, Can anyone suggest a circuit for a passive limiter, using diodes and resistors. I would like to know if it is possible to suppress audio signal peaks higher than +18dbu. (6.16v?). I am using a mic preamp, with line level out, into a recorder and constantly get digital distortion when there are fast transients like hand claps or even laughter. The recorder has a digital limiter but it does not help. There is a product available in the form of an xlr barrel, but I would like to know if it is a circuit I can put in a small box with ta3f in and out, or something I can add to the preamp out, internally. I recently bought one of these for $70 and have been using it to record music at home. I saw on a couple of posts mention of software 2.25. The one I bought has 2.21. After cleaning it up it works well, but I am not able to export files to the computer, I believe because of the disc format UDF. Does anyone know if a later software would format the DVDRAM in Fat32, and if it is still available somewhere? Thanks, Rodrigo

Does anyone know how to view or keep the names of the audio tracks, within a polyfile, in an editing sequence in Premiere pro? I am on a job where the editor is on location, and when I went to check in, I saw that in the editing sequence all the audio tracks were named a1,a2,a3.....rather than the names I put in the recorder boom 1,boom 2, lav henry.....

Yes, moving the TX a few yards away does change the results of the scan considerably, but still affects the scan when I turn the mixer on. As I said before, the mixer by it self does not alter the scan, only when the IFB is on. Yes, Block 26, and the TX in IFB mode, by itself scans as expected, (3rd picture) Compatible with what? Its only one frequency. Many Times. My question is, How can an IFB affect the RF coming from the mixer or vice versa? I´ll keep trying different things to find out what is going on, and hope to learn something from this. Thanks
