I work as a freelance boom operator for feature length films & fiction, but I also work as a sound mixer for short films, documentaries, ENG...
I'm always eager to learn the new tricks and toys of our industry through the experience of other sound guys ;-)

  1. Hello all, I will be carrying out the location sound on a short film project which mostly takes place around a Kart race track. I haven't been to the track yet but I can imagine the sound problems generated by their presence. Can anyone suggest a suitable microphone which will help me record dialogue without to much loss in comprehension and presence? I usually use a Neuman KMR 81i with Sanken Cos-11 lavaliers on wireless during outdoor shots in general, but if the karts are running during scenes with dialogue, is there a better solution? Thankyou so much in advance for any help and suggestions :-) Jean
  2. Hi to all! Just posting to introduce myself to the group! I'm a boom op living in France also working as a sound mixer for documentary gigs... Would love to meet anyone coming to France for a film shoot and would be even more thrilled to work with any of you experienced sound mixers ;-) Although the gear I use is usually rented for better paid gigs, I use a SD 702T, MixPre-D, Neumann KMR 81 mounted on an Ambient boompole, Sennheiser radio kit with Sanken cos-11 lavalier all rigged in my Petrol PS607 bag when needed. I speak fluent French, English and Spanish and have dual French and Canadian citizenship. Please feel free to give me a call when you're in France!
