  1. A fantastic scene in a great film mixed by an amazing mixer! Thanks for all the hard work you do in keeping this site going too.
  2. Very slick. It's a shame we don't come across these too often here stateside. I'm sure those pre's sound phenomenal.
  3. Nothing an aluminum rack shelf + heavy duty Velcro couldn't fix (and real Velcro, not the "hook and loop tape" junk).
  4. I'd be fine with us all moving to 32bit files for delivery IF the post industry adopted proper workflows for it AND the major NLE's supported exporting files out in the vein of OMF/AAF that could handle it. I do a little post for short docs and someone recorded theirs in 32bit, edited it in 32bit in Premiere, and then when it came time to exporting to me for Pro Tools, we had to do a whole song and dance of using a combination of Adobe Audition and AATranslator (a great tool) to make it work in a way that then could be spit out to Pro Tools in 32bit. Was very time consuming and we had ten episodes to convert over so it was days of just getting the files ready vs hitting export an AAF and spit out a Quicktime per usual with 24bit workflows.
  5. All the post folks I've dealt with have had problems with 32bit files as it seems AAF/OMF don't support them? Speaking of which, it's time the industry figured out a more modern way to move files from video timelines to Pro Tools.
  6. True. Which model do you have? I essentially just want something with shelves that are 24x36 and can get over *most* terrain without issue. Occasionally I have to go down a dirt path or whatever to get to a base camp but most of the time it would be pavement only use.
  7. Good to know! Yeah I've just had this rock n roller for about a decade now as a follow cart and while I like the fact that it is light weight, I'm always battling it to make sure pelican cases don't go sliding off so something with a proper lip would be appreciated. Part of me is telling me to just get a Magliner Jr cart but the 100+lb weight of it certainly would be cumbersome loading into my little transit connect passenger wagon. While this thing wouldn't be able to fold down, dimension wise it could lay down fine and I'd be able to lift 67lbs a bit up into it.
  8. Ye Olden Thread but how did that Uline cart hold up?
  9. I like it. What storage drawers are those? Looks like a Mikita blue.
  10. This isn't going to help with this prior situation but going forward, I'd try to reconcile bills on a weekly basis. I've always asked for Labor + Gear Invoice to be paid in full weekly so that even if something were to happen / production go shutdown etc, at least I would only lose out on a week's gear vs months.
  11. You've got it backwards. Channels 4-6 need a "hotter" input (line level). If you want to hook up a mic level source to those channels, you need a mic preamplifier such as the Kortwich: https://www.shop-ftt.de/de/vcp-m3 If you're in NYC, Gotham Sound carries them.
  12. For us mixers who do the dance of bag and sometimes cart work, mobility is key. Yes, it is nice that the nexus can literally latch onto an 8 series recorder, but I can't help but be worried constantly that if it broke, I'd be in a world of hurt as I couldn't afford two. If I was a mixer on a big time television series or major motion picture, sure, get the nexus + some backups (or hell, another nexus). But for us that work on docs etc, I just much prefer having a couple 4 channel slot receivers that can be easily moved to any device (bag or cart) and are affordable enough where I can afford to have two.
  13. If you really want a DSR4 + an older analog SR, you could use a PSC Four Pack + Sound Devices 8 Series AES "barnacle". You'll lose 8 series integration but you'll save $600+, gain a power distro (built into the four pack), and save yourself another $4500+ from buying a 2nd DSR4 if you don't really need it. It's a bit work 'roundish but it is an option.
  14. "Good till lunch" is the my motto for double battery Lectros and "Good till everyone wants it to be lunch" is my motto for single battery iterations.
  15. Ah, I found it. It's Tom Barrow's rig. https://www.instagram.com/p/CmQzmGcq6__/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
  16. I can't remember where I saw it (either on here or Instagram) but I saw a playback cart with the SSL Big 6 mixer. It's DC powered but needs 15 volts so you'd need something like the Remote Audio JBIG15 to regulate the power. Being SSL, I'm sure it sounds great and it's USB-C too to talk to your computer + also is technically analog.
  17. Maybe you can adjust your labor slightly but I don't know about you guys but Lectrosonics / Sound Devices etc doesn't look up my zip code and pro rate what it costs to buy gear so not sure why you'd want to sell yourself short with how much our gear costs.
  18. Yeah lots of 788t SSD with CL8 out there for around $2k USD. Philip and a few others this past summer convinced me it was a good buy when I was looking for something to interface with my PSC Solice Mini and they were right! Sounds great / works great still. Hell, seems like the prices keep dropping so I'm even contemplating getting a 2nd one for backup and/or to link with a C-LINK cable so I can have 16 tracks.
  19. I currently have a '17 Transit Connect and it's kinda the perfect size for *most* things, especially as our gear kind of shrinks down a bit and carts don't need to be as massive as they used to be. That being said, I'm a bit miffed by the fact that this is the end of the Transit Connect / Ram Promaster City / Mercedes Metris etc. for North America. Now if you want a van, you have to buy a full sized one. Hopefully someone comes out with something decent sized and electric someday but I do worry if something happened to my Transit Connect, I'd be up you know what creek in terms of not wanting a big behemoth that gets mileage in the teens and has the suspension of a Conestoga wagon. Hopefully someone like Ford comes to their senses and makes something again off the Maverick Hybrid platform as it would be nice to get 40+mpg crawling along on the 405 per usual.
  20. Oof, that Merecdes test with the blocks is nasty. Word to the wise, never cheap out and buy an older van either because some of those 90's vehicles, particular the US Domestic stuff, were nasty even without a load.
  21. No one publicly knows but they've been touting, "High IP3 performance of +15 dBm for tough RF environments". I think it's safe to say it will have better performance than an SRc but I have no insights to that other than this performance metric they've publicly announced.
  22. Slightly off topic but with the RX4+ in a bag, do you use the knobs for each channels as faders and then is it push it to solo/change the trim? Just curious
  23. Well they are supposed to be releasing the RX8+ add on for slot receiver module / they have a dante option etc so they have been really good about keeping it up to date? A lot of these recorders sound amazing and it seems most of the features we're seeing on newer models are more focusing on convenience features (such as built in wireless / higher track count / DANTE etc) because pro level 24bit/48khz stuff sounds pretty darn amazing.
