  1. no, however I haven’t ever used this setting since having them. Maybe it’s a firmware issue? I can compare their versions and see. Thanks, John! Cheers, Evan
  2. I’ve recently noticed that two of my TRXLAs give a very false readout of battery life when using Lithiums (QRX setting). I can have two fresh batts installed and the indicator will drop to empty and blink within seconds. This is an issue on two of my four LAs (1x2.5 / 1x3.5). The nimh and alk readouts are just fine. Cheers, Evan
  3. I have to do unmonitored vehicle bag drops at least once a day for many of the docu-series I work on and have been doing so for 20 years... Jeff is right— 32bit is unnecessary. Wireless on talent and proper gain staging is all that Is needed. Cheers, Evan
  4. Reviving this thread..... Any new options out there? I love the silicone skin that SoundCases NYC is making, however the clip seems a little too bulky for my needs. I would prefer something that sits more flush against the transmitter (and 360 degree rotating ability is a major plus!). The OR311 seems okay.... But only okay. Maybe its great, I don't know. I can't seem to find the Sony pouches shown above. Those too seem fine, I only wish the clip rotated. I often have to point my tx antennas down. Just want to see what other options are out there. Cheers, Evan
  5. Hush lavs work great for me as well— held in place on the antenna by topstick or super-mini rubber bands (which I buy in bulk and use for excess cable wrangling as well). Although in extreme situations, the hush can be its own form of absorption material and you get back a tiny sponge which is quite vile. The glamorous life of showbiz. Cheers, Evan
  6. For those who have hands-on Nova experience so far: Does the dynamic banking effectively eliminate the need for a FP8-style hardware add on? I usually run 6-8 wireless on any given day and the V-Faders of my Nomads are too cumbersome for quick, on the fly adjustments and the FP8 (for my setup) is overkill. I’ve read the thread and watched the video but the precise functionality of the banking/non-autotrim is still shrouded in a little mystery. Any first hand knowledge of this Nova workflow with more than 5 wireless would be a great help. Cheers, Evan
  7. Same here, yet so many people complain that they break easily— even the updated versions. I leave some on at the end of each day, I take some off.... and I travel extensively so they see their fair share of movement. It’s all voodoo. Cheers, Evan
  8. Thanks for the response, Glenn. Being stuck in 7.97 for so long has been frustrating on a daily basis, since that version has its own set of bugs. Looking forward to moving forward! Cheers, Evan Meszaros
  9. Please let us know what Glenn says. Cheers, Evan
  10. I too am getting fed up with the Vfader issue. I’ve had to go back to 7.97(J?) in order to use them again but I lose the advanced 8.XX features. Many of us have repeatedly asked for this to be addressed and nothing has happened in.... a year, maybe? Cheers, Evan Meszaros
  11. Since pre-orders are already in full swing and the roll out seems to be July-ish, does Zaxcom have any plans to offer package deal pricing for Nova + 212 modules? Inquiring wallets want to know. Cheers, Evan
  12. Jeff! I absolutely love this film. Thank you for being an integral part to making this masterpiece. Cheers, Evan
  13. Does the internal Micplexer work in conjunction with the (upcoming) external RX add-ons? I’m wondering if I can successfully use Lectro SRbs as the two additional receivers or if the micplexer filtering is proprietary for Zax gear. Cheers, Evan
  14. Lasers need jobs too! #LaserRights
  15. Often I wish some of these field producers would be 8 feet away instead of hovering.
  16. Oh noooooooo! We may lose our Comtek rentals! /s https://futurism.com/the-byte/laser-beam-speech-mit?fbclid=IwAR1It6OhF1OBm363rmbXgzeinoHvm4pTqoCwQbRsoV6C6eppsKnyPNc17rM
  17. Exactly. One of the shows I work with has a similar system— running video and audio to director IPads. The (albeit low) latency is still an issue so thankfully no one is listening directly to their monitors and I still rent them Comteks, but that can easily change. It might be wise for us as a group to get ahead of this instead of just dismissing the possibility outright. Cheers, Evan
  18. Wrong. He’s been doing it for years. Clients love it. His rate is quite high.
  19. You can still use WiFi in airplane mode. THIS is a massive drawback I see. People will put up with a lot but if you cut off their internet.... oh boy there’s gonna be a problem. I completely agree. Recently i worked with a VTR guy who used tablets as client monitors instead of traditional HD monitors. He said they were less expensive to buy and clients felt comfortable with them since they already had tablet/smart phone experience. And, he still gets the full rental. I imagine there’s a market for that in audio for IFB. Maybe not yet, but once the latency issue is remedied I could definitely see soundies buying up older iPhones and installing a singular app for IFB.
  20. I was always hoping Zaxcom would add this kind of App functionality to Zaxnet so that clients can download the app and use their phones for IFB/TC. Maybe I’d lose a rental— or I can charge for a password each shoot. I’d make $$ on the transmission and not have to own/maintain as many IFB receivers. Cheers, Evan I’ve experimented with the Vue system and yes it transmits audio but there is a latency that can be annoying for field producers trying to direct in-scene while listening to IFB feed.
  21. Exactly. Just a simple fader panel. It’s a shame Zax didn’t make a FP4 for the Maxx. Yes, I can absolutely use the Kortwich, but I’d prefer not to use an outside preamp. I like having my SRs at line output, especially if the inputs are line. Also, a unit without preamps would likely be less expensive. I was hoping there would be some other unit I wasn’t aware of that fits my needs but I may just get the Kortwich and try it out.
  22. I own a FP8 but there is so much wasted space and weight. I don’t need all 8 faders and that huge cassis. If I could cut my FP8 in half I would! I can set the gain in the Nomad so all I really need is post fade control for the mix. That MX42 is getting the right idea, but I’m not a fan of the RCA connections or that form. The Kortwich VCP-M4 is a perfect example of what I need, but without the preamps. http://www.filmtontechnik.de/en/products-from-kortwich/vcp-preamp/
  23. Not in the sense of a “full featured mixer”. I don’t need bells and whistles, I just want to control my 7-10 inputs without using the V-Faders, like an FP8 does.... only smaller. Yeah I understand that and I’m willing to forgo some of the FP8 features for a smaller package. The Kortwich unit would suit my needs just fine if it wasn’t a preamp.
  24. Basically I want an FP4 (if such a thing existed). I want to control inputs 7-10.
