  1. I use the chinese knock-offs every day. I bought a dozen of them and have had no issues - other than not displaying info on a Sony charger. Cheers, Evan
  2. I use the Sennheiser cold shoe mounts. They work well for my G3s, SRBs and ERXs - when there is an available mount on the camera. Cheers, Evan
  3. +1 I would love to hear on set stories from the 1st Halloween films! Cheers, Evan
  4. Very glad this isn't my office. Also, not the best place to rent a butt plug... Cheers, Evan
  5. This is the reason I use onboard mics for every docu-series I manage. I bought six ME64s and mount them on every camera as backup backups and they have captured critical audio at least three times over the last couple of years. Worth every penny. Cheers, Evan
  6. Matthew or Rado - How long does it take to get a full charge on the batteries? Also, how much does each individual battery weigh? Cheers, Evan
  7. ------------------------------------------------------------ The Sennheiser IEM/IFB receivers have locking plugs. The current 1/8" output jack is my least favorite part of my otherwise beloved ERX2s, and I don't want to sacrifice the volume knob for a $140 BNC mod either. Cheers, Evan
  8. I have been using the DV-SQN4S from Hawkwoods for a couple of years now and I love it. I have two types of batteries that I use: the NPF960s - for when I am not running around or when I absolutely need consistent juice and cannot swap, and the NPF770s - which are lighter for run/gun type situations. I buy the highest mwH 770 knock-offs available and they last me (usually) until lunch running a Nomad 12 (w/ zaxnet) and 4 SRBs. Cheers, Evan
  9. In my experience, Tom's attitude is proper. Nowadays - if its a new, long-running show - I make sure to negotiate a flat weekly rate for my gear. In the event that production suddenly institutes a b-roll day, I still get my full kit rental.
  10. My very dear friends (and clients) are in need of a crew for an easy shoot in Seattle on July 7 & 8. Please shoot me an email if you are a Seattle local, are available those dates and know some people who can fill the following positions: Sound w/ gear Gaffer AC (c300) HMU PA This is a high end interview with some eng/doc style shooting - no heavy lifting or crazy days. These are solid clients of mine, so please no greaseballs, chumps, amateurs or students. Pay is good. Vibe is fun. Please email me if you are interested, qualified and know other local crew that you trust. Cheers, Evan Meszaros sendittoevan AT gmail DOT com
  11. Looks like he keeps himself steadily employed being "the guy who works the LEAST out of everybody". See for yourselves: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1638770/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1 He even has time to train all the people that will undercut him on his next gig! Cheers, Evan
  12. Here is a fun article I think everyone here might enjoy about the origins of classic Sci/Fi movie sounds like Lightsabers and the Predator's heartbeat. The origin stories are good, and some of the old footage of waving microphones in front of speakers during the Star Wars sessions is fantastic... http://io9.com/10-weirdest-origins-of-classic-science-fiction-sound-ef-1590477009 Cheers, Evan Meszaros
  13. Thanks for sharing your experiences, Sully. I still have a few questions regarding your workflow... - Did you need separate attenuators in order to input a Line Level signal into the M3? - When used for Nomad's channels 7/8/9, did they function as pre-fade or post-fade controls? Did you still need to access and use the Nomad's VFaders at all? Cheers, Evan
  14. If I can avoid the size and weight of the FP8 and have a usable 3 Channel device then I'm going to seriously consider this M3 alternative - for the times when I don't need 6 extra faders. Cheers, Evan
  15. Ideally I would like to set the Nomad's input gain for 7/8/9 and use this Kortwich unit as a small fader panel to bypass the Nomad's virtual faders. I suspect I may be asking for too much from this unit…. If anyone on this forum has any real-world experience with this unit I'l love to hear from them.
  16. Is this the item you bought? http://www.filmtontechnik.de/613.html If this works in place of the Nomad's virtual faders, I'll buy one today... Cheers, Evan
  17. The Muscle Shoals doc is on Netflix Instant now. If you haven't seen it yet, it's a remarkable story.
  18. Right now I spend very little $$ on my ERX cases because I have to modify them myself. For instance - I bought a bunch of the cheap (but surprisingly durable) Body Glove phone cases with a clear front window and attached (360˚ spinning) belt clip. These work well enough for an IFB situation, but when I need my ERXs as hops to camera (which is most of the time) I have to attach a Sennheiser G3 cold shoe mount to the Body Glove belt clip. If there was an all in one (durable + windowed + 360˚ spinning belt-clip + cold-shoe mount) case I would absolutely be willing to pay $25-35 a piece. Cheers, Evan
  19. That request is an immediate red flag for me. If anyone asks me for a "sound reel" I miraculously discover I'm already booked for their intended shoot dates. Cheers, Evan
  20. So NAB has come and gone. . . The pics were great, but has anyone heard of a delivery date for the FP8? Cheers, Evan
  21. See? That's the MAN trying to keep Future You down. Beware, child. Beware.
