  1. Best use of the Apple Watch I've seen yet: Our PA/Driver was texted the address to a new location and it showed up on her watch. No digging around for her phone or careless texting while driving.
  2. These two are definitely my "Best Worst" and the most likely to be seen at a drive in double feature - which I think would get a huge crowd and actually be a lot of fun. Troma movies easily have the craziest working conditions but, like in any war, I made a few lifelong friends on these shoots and as a 21yr old production sound mixer I learned a helluva lot...
  3. Great advice. Thanks! I'll let you know how it turns out.
  4. I have a question I'm hoping someone can answer.... We are running 8 wireless talent mics across 3 blocks with a Comtek ifb for producers. We added a 2nd mixer with another Comtek frequency and that works fine. But, when we add a 3rd Comtek transmitter into the mix, the FreqFinder app (iOS) will not give a compatible Comtek freq - and if I choose any open one, the app shows intermod across all my talent wireless and won't off any compatable freqs for those either. It seems strange that I cannot safely run 3 or 4 Comteks (216 Wide). Is this a common issue with using too many Comteks or with the app? I appreciate any help or advice, as I would love to be able to use 4 Comtek feeds on the 216 Wide block without fear of intermod. Cheers, Evan Meszaros
  5. It would appear the "fortunate coincidence" is across the board as users here have been using IE batteries with Audio Root distro systems with great success. Cheers, Evan
  6. Indeed this does help, Jose. Thank you! Are you using the IE charger as well, or the AudioRoot one? Cheers, Evan
  7. JohnPaul, Did you order the AudioRoot or Inspired Energy batteries? They appear to be exactly the same (except in price, of course). Cheers, Evan
  8. I'd love to follow up on this thread with a couple of questions for those that currently use this AudioRoot system in their bag... 1) How's it going? Are you happy with your investment? 2) Has anyone here personally handled the Inspired Energy batteries (http://inspired-energy.com/Standard_Products/NH2054/NH2054.htm) and are they compatible with the AudioRoot Distro systems? The price list for batts and chargers that Vin posted above was significantly cheaper than other dealers. I also noticed this on their website: "In 2015 we plan to begin sampling the NH2054HD34. At 98Wh this will represent the highest energy density Li Ion standard battery pack available. It will equal the performance of our 97Wh 12-cell "NL" products in a package which is 33% smaller, and 33% lighter." Thanks for sharing! Cheers, Evan
  9. I think there is more to the Philips Hue Lighting than this. You should check out the link posted above. I see it as an added feature - not unlike surround sound - to enhance the personal experience, and personally I would love to experience "being in the 12 Monkeys time machine". Cheers, Evan
  10. I find my continuous mirroring to be pretty slow when more than 6 tracks are engaged for an extended take. I use legit Transcend 133Xs. As an early Nomad adopter, I have always set my processor speed to NORMAL as this was the thing to do to avoid freezing issues - so I was told at the time. I do not use an excessive amount of compressors or effects either. Do any of you run with FAST1 or FAST2 successfully? Cheers, Evan M.
  11. Great test. Thanks. Have you tried comparing them in the open air / line of sight? Cheers, Evan
  12. I recently sent my Nomad to Zaxcom for some routine maintenance where they added a washer to the sma connector and assured me I won't have a problem down the road. So, there is an effective "update" of sorts if you're worried about the fragility of your connection. Cheers, Evan Meszaros
  13. Beyond his contributions to documentary film, and besides his involvent with the birth of crystal sync, Albert was a truly special human being - one full of talent and joy and life. On day one of my first project with him, he insisted I record field audio without using my headphones.... From that moment on he opened my eyes and ears to the wonderful and spontaneous moments that create the story of life. With Love, Evan Meszaros
  14. In that case..... I loved it! The suspense was gripping even though we already know the outcome. Throughout the film I kept thinking "wow this doc plays like a Steven Soderberg thriller." Then when the credits came up his name was listed as an EP. I'm glad it won the Oscar. It simultaneously scared and infuriated me. I hope everyone sees it and it opens their eyes. Cheers, Evan
  15. I cannot confirm nor deny that I've seen it. I prefer to stay off any government lists, thankyouverymuch.
  16. Details added to original post. If you or anyone you know fits these descriptions please email me. Prodcution wants to lock crew in by the end of the week. Thanks to those who have already applied - I'll be getting back to you this afternoon. Cheers, Evan
  17. Mix track(s) to camera and ISOs on my rig for nearly every doc/reality shoot I do - which is a lot. A 552 would not cut it in the field for these jobs. Interviews and corporate gigs, sure. Cheers, Evan

  19. I use the Hawkwoods DV-SQN4S to power my bag (nomad + 4xSRB) and I love it. I bought a dozen aftermarket NPF770s and (usually) only change once a day during lunch. The batts last a while, I just make sure and buy the ones with the highest mAH rating. Tons of bang for your buck. My only criticism is size/shape of the Hawkwoods does not allow for a super easy hot-swap. Whereas NP1s or Audio Root batts slide in and out easily, I have to pull the until out of my bag, swap, then replace. Not the biggest inconvenience, but the space it uses is a little awkward. This topic and unit has been discussed in detail here many times. Try searching around for more great info about this product. Cheers, Evan
  20. My bag is always my "personal item" carry on, even on small delta connection flights. Never a space issue with Nomad + 4srbs + 6 TXs + shotgun + Comtek, etc.... My other carry on is a backpack full of batts and accessories. Never had issues except for trying to carry on a boom pole. I take at least 8 flights a month - mostly on Delta - and never have a problem with carry on regulations or space. Cheers, Evan
  21. This is spot on. When my last feature was distributed (DVD + VOD), my "deal" was great on paper, but ultimately these distro companies bury profits in BS overhead and sinister "packaging" deals overseas. Even the algorithm for payments from Netflix streaming is so insane that Indie filmmakers will never see a penny from it. Compound that with online piracy (mine was illegally downloaded 10,000 times in the first week of its release) and the outlook for any monetary gain is grim. Which is especially bad for indie folks who put any meager profits directly into making another film. Cheers, Evan
  22. Home Depot. I felt the hook hung too low so I moved it to the upper hole on the clip. It took some "modifications" but it works for my needs.
