I do a little drama and kids game shows in a studio environment and still get out with a bag for documentary and reality stuff.
I've been doin' it since 1985 but I'm always learning thanks to an everchanging work environment , new technologies and a bunch of clever colleagues.

  1. Used to work with a DOP(E) who used to call.... "Immortalising!"
  2. Ha that reminds me of working at a network, occasionally a trainee camera operator would be asked to pan left. The poor nervous guy would pan tentatively to the right. The director would call, " keep goin' keep goin' keeeeep goin' till the poor guy had panned a full 363 degrees to get the right framing.
  3. If there has ever been a bigger misnomer than Reality I'd like to know what it is. Who's reality is this? BTW having cockroaches poured over you is pretty wierd. But have producers poured over you is completely sick!
  4. Badaboum! thanks Pierre! Thanks boys, enjoy those offspring, they'll get big on you before ya know it. Yeah Back into the studio at end of July Pete, Going surfing in Mentawais for 10 days before returning to it, so holiday is set. But jee'd be nice just to turn over e few days a week to pay for the Bintangs. Jerry.
  5. Hi Guys, I'm "enjoying" a two month production break from the client who has all but filled my calandar of the past three years. Things are as I guess we know a bit quiet presently, I'm told it's hotting up. but if there's any of you Sydney blokes out there who could use a boom swinger or assitant or indeed need the services of a second soundie for the day give us a yell. Jeeze I even do a week of "the fat show" interviews ........ but not a day more. I know a few of you guys from the forum, and there's a few more I've not had the pleasure of meeting, PM me if you'd like a CV or just a chat. Regards, Jerry Batha Sydney Soundie.
  6. Unless you don't live in the US. I've been a Soundie/Soundo for 25 years, but you're right, some days, I still feel like a rookie .
  7. Classic! IMO it is possible that the Stilletto TB15SS could join the JW Sound idiom along-side the "Tuna Sub"? (HAT!) Just my $0.02!
  8. I made the switch and haven't looked back, steer clear of the NiMHs ,Lithium Polymer all the way. Just keep tabs on them and keep cycling them. Theyll end up saving you a bunch! Jerry.
  9. Yeh! I have the same pole but haven't encountered the reflection prolem yet. I'm pretty confident about giving it a wet and dry sand down, but I'd suggest any one going down this route, pull the whole thing down. I haven't pulled this one down but I'm guessing that they still use the old bushes which are the loop side of velcro. They slide really well and clean out easy if you get grit in there, but you wouldn't want fine dust in them. Jerry.
  10. Beautiful! A totally organic recording of something real. A palate cleansing sorbet amongst the stuff we sometimes must endure during our workaday recording lives.
  11. Supposedly it affects your memory!
  12. You know working in your dreams is no where near as bad as dreaming at your work. Hands up who has ever fallen asleep during an interview.
  13. Here's one from the eighties during my time as a fisher boom op on a live variety show. I'm in the corridor outside the studio when I become aware of the opening theme music, I hear the floor managers voice from somewhere giving the host a ten second count! I burst through the studio door with about two seconds to go, but the opening monologue is at the far end of the studio, The band is finishing up the opener and host begins to deliver as I'm still running towards the boom. This is when I jolt into the waking world gasping.....what does it mean doctor?
