  1. John, I do know the 4210 is a different product, I copy the link of the 4220 as i think its an interesting product to all of us here. I personally like the Peak Program Meter they have in their product line. Do tell us more when you start working with the 4210. Alan
  2. http://www.marenius.se/products/mm4220.html Interesting product thou.......18V@1A is a bit too much IMHO. Alan
  3. Cloud, I have the chance to have a loaner 8050 with Kit10 with me during my shoot in Beijing, and also my usual MKH50, and we ended up using the 8050 for plant and ambience, while the MKH50 for dialog. Too much low end and I'm not comfortable with the roll off being in my mixer rather then from the mic, like the MKH50. Doing quick boom movement might be a risk using the 8050, even in interior i need the Kit10 on, which is not my ideal setup for interior scene. I also feel I maybe rolling off too much on my mixer when using 8050. My roll off are all park at 80Hz all the time but not when I'm using 8050. I easily get by using my MKH50 with a foam and the original Sens mount. I'm thinking about purchasing some hyper-card lately, and its better to get another MKH50, since adding up 8050+8000 filter comes to more expensive then a MKH50. A foam for interior and a ball gag, its all i need. Have you consider the Neumann KM100BF mic pre with AK capsules before? I'd used Schope but somehow did not like it, and prefer the coloration to the voice by the Neumann and MKH50. I do agree Schope is a more neutral mic. Looking at your picture, your mount seems to need some counter balancing. Its not a crime to clip the rear mount to the XLR connector . BTW, thanks for all the info you gave me about Shanghai, see you in November. Alan
  4. I do have an EMC on one of my boom pole and another without, I used to pick up some GSM RFI with my CS3e, I remember for the longest time I did not hear it anymore. My CS3e was picking up some RF (HF whining) from the the Canatrans in my last shoot and a swap of boompole, and its gone. The EMC is definitely working but to what extend I do not know, and this thread reminds me to get more of these connectors and change it on the other boompole and cables I have. Alan
  5. I will try to answer your question to the best of my knowledge, its actually better to email Larry about your setup. Firstly you do no need biasTpower to power up the antenna, the UFM230 and UFM50 are actually for long cable run, it act as an amplifier right AFTER the antenna to amplify the RF signal for long cable run, and I'm talking about hundred feet and above of cable run here. For your setup, you will need a UFM230 and Mini-Circuit combiner, the UFM230 insert right after the Sharkfin to compensate for the combiner RF loss. Yes you need to power your UFM230 with 12VDC, the SR5P does not provide biasTpower, unlike the Venue,UMC16B and 4/6 Pack Lunch Boxes which have a jumper setting to activate the biasTpower. The amount of amplification set on the UFM depends on your total RF signal loss at the combiner and your cable length. You will also need some SMA to BNC connectors. For me i do not need any amplification, my 2 x BNC are only 12ft long. Frankly if your setup is on a cart, I will advice you to go for the UMC16B WB or the OCTA8 coupler. If its in a bag I will rather go nearer to the actors. Sometimes less is more when it comes to dealing with RF, a whip antenna can do wonders too. Also take into consideration that my receivers are all with tracking front end unlike the SR5P, VRS module and UCR401, so its more helpful when it comes to tough RF locations. Do check with Lectro, these guys can give you better directions. Alan
  6. Cloud, Yes it works great, as you can see 1 is a Lectro and the other is an AT sharkfin, both patch to my UMC16B Wideband. I do not have a range problem so far, i have the AT fin for about 5yrs now. If i'm to get another Lectro fin, basically its just for completeness sake not about improvement. If I'm close to the set I do not use fins, I just use the whip. Alan
  7. Vin, Hope you enjoy your stay in Singapore, we will do steamboat again. Here are some of my view from my office. Alan
  8. Get a cheap Protools 888/24 I/O from ebay, set it to stand alone mode. You have an ok AD/DA unit. Alan
  9. It will be great if you download the user manual of the 442 and look at the block diagram. Whats wrong with direct out being pre-fader?? Alan
  10. Phil, The FM4 unlike FM3 have 4 I/P, 4 Direct Out, 1 AES Out@44.1,48 or 96Khz (Selectable L/R, L+R, 1/2,2/3 OP) and with selectable Aux Out for IFB purposes, 2 returns (1 Balanced, 1 Unbalanced ). The rest of the functions are as usual. Don't know when is the release date. Still I think you PSC M6 Retro is sexy. lol Alan
  11. Hi, I will be mixing a German feature in Vietnam for a month and Beijing/Chengdu for a month, any good recommendation for a Utility/2nd Boom Op in both countries? Alan Chong
  12. Phil, The AKG blueline or the lower end AT mics. Alan

    PD606 Update

I'd done my last 2 weeks of shoot mirroring off to 2 x 8G flash drive. So far so good, we are shooting with RED and at the end of the day the flash drive was given to the data wrangler which he would promptly returned me back on the next working day. Metadata changes on the PD606 internal drive were also updated to the flashdrive smoothly. Archiving to DVD-R was done during the start of a new working day while the camera and lighting guys are setting up. There are some minor changes to the media management of the new PD606. The users are now able to create folder name on the internal drive partitions, during mirroring mode, the folder will also be created on the flash drive. The flash drive was a FAT32 drive. Fostex last words were, more USB functions will be available in the April release firmware. I did try with 1 flash card reader and an USB External HD, the 606 fails to read it. Alan Chong

Recording thru USB drives are currently not available on the 606, just file copy, autocopy and playback. Alan

    PD606 Update

USB Hard Drives are a no no due to the power consumption. The 606 will not bus power the 2.5" HD properly and also the bridge chip compatibility, but I guess we could use external power and try our luck in finding the right casing. CF card readers are also facing the same problem but have a lower chance of bus powering issue. Alan
