  1. Jeff Wexler posted a clear and informative reply to Prahlad Strickland's question about diversity reception. Read it here: I posted my question there, but as it was off-topic I've re-posted here so as not to derail the thread. Lectrosonics' SR manual reads: "...the two channels can be used together as a single receiver in "True Diversity" Ratio Mode for enhanced performance in some environments." My understanding is that in Ratio Mode, the dual receiver SR "favors" the audio signal from the receiver with the stronger signal from the transmitter. If Ratio Mode on the SR is a combination of antenna diversity and receiver diversity, how is it better than receiver diversity? If I use a pair of receiver antennas (matched or not) in fixed positions for each integrated receiver front end in an SR, both receiver sections will have (presumably) identical range and reception from the transmitter. How does Ratio Mode purport to give a more robust signal than plain ol' receiver diversity?

  3. Pascal, the large knob at the top of each CL-9 strip functions as a gain knob, in the event that you want to tweak on the fly while rolling, as I suspect you might... : ) You're going to like it. The CL-9 also gives you access to the EQ section of the 788T and let's you fool with the output matrixing in ways that might not have occurred to you when using the recorder with the CL-8. Plus, you know... FADERS. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4. A succinct and clear explanation, Jeff. I have a follow up question, which may be more in Larry Fisher's wheelhouse, about the practical benefits of Lectrosonics SR series Ratio Mode. Is it a combination of antenna diversity and receiver diversity? If it is, how am I benefitting from using it, since with the SRs, I'd be using the same two receiver antennas in fixed positions for each integrated receiver in the SR which will have (presumably) identical range and reception to the worn transmitter? What does Ratio Mode do that is better than plain ol' antenna diversity? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  5. I feel like "talking to oneself" by its nature qualifies any kind of admission as hearsay, even if it's been recorded. Durst was the only one in the room when the admission was made, and he can't be forced to incriminate himself. I think the defense has a good shot of getting the recording thrown out. 6. And for the love of everything holy... MALE SIDE DOWN, people. Jeez, I gotta explain everything to you kids?
  7. For the international travelers, or those who travel domestic frequently, I recommend Global Entry. All the bennies of TSA PreCheck, but with expedited customs too... http://www.dhs.gov/comparison-chart
  8. Lectrosonics model is the AMJ. Check with your Lectrosonics dealer in the UK.
  9. How can you tell if the Supersoftie you have is one of the early, defective ones?
  10. I keep mine in the original cardboard sleeves, and put those in heavy duty polyethylene zip bags. I downloaded an official looking Lithium Battery warning label from the TSA site, printed them, and stuck them onto the bags. I've never had a problem carrying on. http://phmsa.dot.gov/safetravel/batteries
  11. These fit the rear pouch on the Orca harness perfectly: http://www.ianker.com/product/79AN15K-WA I can get several days on my iPhone on a single charge, using the CL-WiFi app, and I don't put any battery strain on the NP-1Ls or add system noise through my PSC Power Star Mini.
  12. Also, the OR-34 fits perfectly in a rolling Pelican 1620 with room for zeppelins and AKS.
  13. I'm a bit of a Fat Bastard, and I can tell you that the Orca vest fits me just fine over a light hooded sweatshirt. However, over a winter coat might be pushing the envelope, as it were... Also, the pouch on the back is the perfect size for an Anker Astro E5 15000mAh power pack.
  14. I used to use the Denecke TC1 reader for ramping, offspeed or reverse timecode playback. Tracked playback perfectly. http://www.denecke.com/Support/Documents/TC-1%202007.pdf
  15. Super slick! Have you got a source for the follow cart wheels? And, I too scorn false pizza. Karl
  16. Oo... Those are awesome, Jose. I'm getting a bunch.
  17. That's the Mobility Kit from Pelican. All the larger rolling cases have it available as an option. Your friend's doesn't seem to have it, but it comes with a pair of wheel assemblies and a "sled" near the lid portion of the case to offset the larger wheel diameter. http://www.pelican-case.com/mobility-cases.html Nalpak also makes a swivel caster kit, but I haven't seen them anywhere but online.
  18. I used to love those gigantic Denecke Concert Slates. http://www.richmondfilmservices.com/equipment/time-code-equipment/TCE003.html
  19. And for just $219, you could cannibalize those nice solid drawers and mount them into an 8020 extrusion cart, f'rinstance...
  20. I'm loving my new OR-34, particularly the super-slick "Orca Lift"/sliding strap device that keeps the 788T/CL-8 in place. I'm also fine with the additional 1.25" of space on either side that others have been griping about, since it makes the Select knob/switch accessible and allows for a bit of airflow around the unit... I loaded it with everything I own, and I still had room for the iPad and two additional NP1 batteries. Hopefully I won't need to actually carry that much stuff at once... The twist-on mechanism with the clunky snaps that hold the "wireless pouches" in place is a little goofy. I would have preferred a twist/lock type of mechanism, but then again, Then again, I don't know how often I would really need to remove them from the exterior of the bag.. Overall, a superb, elegant build and design. The aluminum frame rocks. It's impossible to tip the bag over on either axis, and there's a loop or a D-ring anywhere I might want to put a cable or a carabiner. I was able to quickly secure the loaded OR-34 to the shelf of a PSC cart without any modifications. Looking forward to trying the harness next. Word on the street is that it's great. Well done, Ofer! 21. Jim and Phil said it right. That said, I'm also with syncsound to a degree. Actors will invariably ask me if their transmitter will be on between takes, and the speech I always give is a variation of this: "We take your privacy very seriously, it's in everyone's interests to have the faders down all the time, and its my job to make sure that happens. But, when you're on your mark, even between active takes, please don't talk shit, unless you intend for it to be heard, because there's always at least one live microphone in the room all the time." It usually gets a laugh, and they get it. It's a trust issue.
