  1. If all else failed, I had planned to put a Cough Drop or some other in-line mute switch between the Comtek cable and the Tx. I was looking for a 'less stuff' approach and just use the features on the 788T... Good call, BudRaymond. I'm going to use the X1 for Comtek and the X2 for speaker. And, yes, the tricky thing will be to remember to turn up the X1 for takes : P...
  2. Thanks, Matt. That's how I think I'll configure it, then. I just wasn't sure if there was some slick Sound Devices mojo that I was missing, or if that was the right method. Thanks for the response.
  3. Nothing. That's what I'm doing now. It's been working out fine, unless I'm trying to hear what multiple inputs sound like together, or regulate respective speaking levels of two actors on wires...
  4. Okay, here's my (super nerdy) $0.02... Strictly aesthetic, but: http://www.inlaystickers.com/servlet/the-332/Custom-Dots-5-fdsh-16%22%28Abalone-Blue%29/Detail Vinyl decals for the 5/16"/8mm marker spaces on the fader knobs for the Sound Devices CL-8. Multiple colors... In fantastic, fakey mother of pearl! Karl Wasserman Astoria, NY
  5. Hello, JWSOUNDers! Recently switched to using a 788T/CL-9 setup. In the interest of actor privacy, I'd like to find a quick way to either mute or pot down the feed to the Director's/Client's Comtek transmitter in between takes. I usually drop all faders except the boom strip anyway, but sometimes I want to use that time to adjust EQ, or make sure body mics still sound okay without broadcasting to the whole set. I thought of assigning the COM2 (for talking to the director or script supervisor) and all active inputs to the X2 track, assigning that to the Comtek output and making the X2 fader knob on the CL-9 a dedicated "Director's Output" knob, but I feel like there might be a more elegant way. In the meantime, I've been using the solo buttons to listen to individual mics, but can anyone give me a good shortcut way to 'mute all' on a specific, assigned output in between takes? Using the Keyboard/Logic Assignment to toggle button on my keyboard would work really well. Anybody? Thanks In Advance! Karl Wasserman Astoria, NY
  6. Hey, Matt! Really beautiful work. Are you adding color (I'm assuming it's model paint) to the uncured 70/30 epoxy mix, or do you paint the hardened dome after the fact? I'm asking because, if it's painted, I'd be concerned about the paint scratching off after the fact.

  8. I'm presently looking at this "two-stage" pull-out shelf from Gator for use with a CL-9 controller and a Virtually Indestructible Keyboard: http://www.gatorcases.com/p/217138-1590/ge-kbd-shelf Is this the sort of thing you mean? If not, there's lots of single space, very flat roll-out shelves in rackmount format.
  9. Two small strips of doublesided carpet tape and black 1" paper tape around the edges to keep it from lifting off. You could also just use Topstick...
  10. The conductor method could work, but you might run into trouble with the actors looking at the "conductor." If it's freestyle, one solution is to film and record it (using the live music) as a reference track, then give them closed cup headphones, play back the track on a laptop and have the actors rerecord the track acapella. I used this technique with two people singing along with the radio in a car, and it works perfectly.
  11. Nice HDMI! The "Tender Tape" is also called Coban, and you can get it in black or tan in 1", 2" and 3" rolls. It's great for concealing a transmitter against a calf in tight shorts, or to a thigh under a short dress...
  12. I have a couple of extra pairs I could let go. One's wired for mono, but you could put a stereo connector on it... I was going to keep em for decoration in the workshop, but PM me with an offer.
  13. Just bought a CMIT5U and am getting ready to use it in conjunction with a Denecke PS1a power supply and a UM400a transmitter. Is there a distinct wiring configuration I need to use for the boom cable itself? Redding Audio's site says: "Special care must be taken if the CMIT 5U is used with an external phantom power supply going unbalanced into a wireless bodypack transmitter - pin-3 must be decoupled from the powering and pin-1 must remain connected. (Keep pin-2 hot and pin-1 GND)." Am i mistaken, or does a phantom power supply not only supply power across Pins 1 and 2 anyway? What am I missing? Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks!

  15. The best ones are from a company called Goody. Jeff, my band would be called Men Without Hair. I'm just saying.

    pascal.4

Hey, Jeff! Really elegant setup. Not sure if this is your rig, or Pascal Van Strydonck's, but I'm wondering about the four connects on the back of the Lectro SR receivers. Are those connected to 15-pin Sony connectors, and if so, how are they wired for power and to the 788T? I'd love to build a set. Any chance of a pinout schematic, or just an explanation of the configuration?

  18. If you aren't shooting with a time code enabled camera, an inexpensive way is to feed SMPTE to one audio track of the camera and the program audio to another. I'd also record double system (i.e. an outboard recorder with the same SMPTE feed as you are putting on the camera) in the event that post decides they want to prelap the dialog before the ramp to regular speed. If you don't have a timecode enabled recorder, you might want to look into renting one for the day. Hope this helps! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  21. If you're concerned about reflectivity on those monitors, it looks like a homemade Corru-Plast hood (possibly with the assistance of some adhesive magnet material) would be a slick fit inside the beveled rack-ear portion. Just saying...
  22. Hey, Sean! Who's your shelf fabricator in Brooklyn? Also, I might be down for a powdercoat on an old PSC cart I've got, once I've built a replacement bottom shelf.

  24. +1, Jeff. Slick bag rig... Hey, Pascal! I'd like to build those DB-25 output/12V cables, too. have you got a source to have them made, or a pinout so I can build them myself? Thanks in advance.
