  1. I usually take my gear down to CBP and fill out form 4455, which states that I’m bringing the equipment for use abroad. That way on re-entry I can prove I didn’t just buy the gear overseas to avoid paying taxes on it. It’s free to do but they will check serial numbers on the gear to make sure they line up before they rubber stamp the forms. I was just in Germany a week ago working, cleared EU customs in Copenhagen, no problems at all on the European side with my MixPre based light weight rig. Camera guy I was traveling with got some extra questions coming back to the US because of the rather conspicuous pelican cases, my stuff was all in off the shelf luggage so no one gave me a second look. I loved Hamburg, Germany is an awesome place.
  2. exactly, they're makeup covers. never actually used them but somehow have a pile of them from years of using MKE-2's
  3. I've got two lav kits that I travel with. The main one is in an Ikea toiletries bag http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80323058/ It houses extra capsules, moleskin, topstick, fur for wind protection, undercovers, overcovers, zip ties, velcro, alcohol swabs, belts pouches for transmitters, bobby pins, a lav bullet, some gaff tape, lav hardwire adapters, and my fly fishing tackle box with all the little lav doo dads. http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Plano-Compact-Side-Side-Tackle-Box-1070&i=441754 The other smaller bag is what I keep on me at all times, it has extra topstick, transpore, bobby pins, pre cut fur for wind protection, alcohol swabs, and I use a lav belt pouch to store it all in. it fits in the exterior pouch on my Orca sound bag.
  4. Movie Slate can output timecode via the headphone jack on the iphone but it's not as simple and elegant as the TC Toolbox app was.
  5. I'm modding a Zuca bag/ cart myself so I started a facebook group where other people using Zuca products for sound can share ideas and figure out what works and what doesn't. All are welcome. I personally can't wait to have a design for myself that's worthy of sharing in the gallery of sound carts one day. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1595929987382210/
  6. I see it can accept timecode on the 5 pin lemo, does it also output the device's time code? I read the manual and it really only talks about jamming but if outputs as well, I can use it as a sync box in a pinch too. Would make it a great all around problem solver.
  7. I have one of these in my bag for switching between two cameras' returns. It's high quality and has held up for some time now. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/748807-REG
  8. Check out some of the back episodes of the Tonebenders Podcast. One of those guys has some and loves them. http://tonebenderspodcast.com/ I use the CM-3's on toms all the time and love them but it's not exactly a field scenario.
  9. You're probably going to need an additional box in either case. The M-10 can't provide phantom power so you'll need a MixPre as Chris said. And the DR-100 blows through batteries with two phantom powered mics so you'll need some sort of powering setup.
  10. I like the ME64 too. Especially if they're mostly on wide lenses on a doc.
  11. If you're interested, Sonic Talk was able to sit down with Pete Brown from Microsoft to talk audio and Midi on Win10:

  13. Devil's bridge Antigua. Filming a gospel singer in some pretty hefty winds .
  14. Oh fun, let's start some! I'll go first: All those April Fools pranks were real products in development.
  15. MKE-2s have steel strands in them making them quite strong but when they get kinked, they tend to keep that shape. Much like a paperclip, I've found you can just grab them with both hands and bend them back. They mostly go back straight.
