  1. That's why I pack everything in pelican cases now. Better that than turning up to find its a smaller plane than advised and finding your kit doesn't fit in the overhead.
  2. Pablo - yes over covers will help - and yes it does depend. Sound involves much "suck it and see"
  3. You can buy direct from AudioRoot in France - prices are pretty good this way.
  4. 1 bar is too short if you want to be filming the chorus; in my experience you need to ask the band how many bars (ie how far back) they need to be up to speed for the "take" or "Camera roll" point.
  5. Oops - autocorrect - should be "right gear for the job".... I own my own gear so financially it's not really worth it to do the job as an operator using someone else's gear.... If you don't own gear then I guess it has to be considered.
  6. Apple will continue to make lots of money by finessing things others have already developed - and releasing them in their own captive market.
  7. They look a bit bulky for on location - I'm a HD25 lover - and willing to put up with the dodgy driver connector. I love the isolation they provide and I know that if something sounds ok on them it will sound great in the mix. IMO anyway....

  9. Tc slate is becoming more the usual thing - even on single camera shoots - think producers feel more professional when one is on set. That said I can go months without needing one (or being asked to supply one) and then have three requests in a week.
  10. I see no point in doing it if you don't have the right get for the job. As has been said either get the prod co. to provide it or book sound recordists who are happy to provide their own. That said the units need to be coordinated - ie, standard radio mics and mixers/recorders because no matter what some time all the contestants and hosts will meet together and you will need the flexibility to assign talent to recordists without pissing off producers and camera with "oh, camera C can't shoot contestant X because audio E has them mic'd". At some stage the cam ops will button off during crucial dialogue and without double system recorders those words will be lost forever. I can appreciate that you and your co-audio sup have done sound stuff before but these Multi camera reality shows are a beast unto themselves and without solid experience of this genre it will be super tough.
  11. If you know the producer personally (like a friend or worked with them before) then if they tell you something you can take it as said. Otherwise take it on advisement
  12. If you listen to economists personal income tax is all regressive. The way forward is sales tax on everything (no exceptions) and zero personal income tax; or do they say. It would be nice not to have to complete the yearly income tax return....
  13. Good luck - you are seriously under kitted. Standby for a very serious learning curve before you can comfortably record what's required.
  14. If any one is interested: http://tinyurl.com/qfpag95
  15. Try telling the traditional land owners in the Pacific that are having to leave their island homes that rising seas levels are not happening
  16. No surprise that mirror posted this..... Yawn
  17. Generally (IMO) Rados point are interesting but as much as I hate to say it, the senator is right about unreasonable expectations for gear; you get what you pay for. If you want to use a CL9 - get a 788, not a 664. The 633 is pretty much great as is - only thing would be more gain on inputs 4-6, but there are ways around that. And yes Sennheiser does seem to have some quality control problems with their newer mics; too many need to go back to the old country for a holiday.
  18. This is one of those "it works until it stops working". The Lavs themselves are more robust than the Tx (unless you have MM/WM) - as they are under clothing and offers some protection. Countryman B3 are great in the wet and sound pretty good - VTs IMO do not sound as good. Sankens 'can' keep going thru pretty extreme conditions. Always have a back up plan!
  19. Think last Swiss film was "Von Trapp" or something
  20. I would explain the difficulty in renaming the WAV files -also makes the bread crumbs to piece it all together harder to follow. The notes section in the metadata is the place to enter this kind of information - or very short note in the track name. Maybe roll a dummy set of takes using notes and then PDF a sound report and show the producer how easy it is to find the descriptions from there.
  21. So right Crew - the opening scene is make or break for a film IMO. Need to exercise my brain cells and come up with my favorite.
