  1. Derek is exactly correct. Two separate transmitters on two different frequencies can be received at the same time. The QRX100 has been shipping for about 6 months. In that time we have worked out a few kinks in the design. Our electronic power switch has been modified as well as an RF circuit. We are now shipping them as fast as we can make them. The Option board has been in beta test for the last month and we hope to begin shipping QRX100 with the Zaxnet option board this week. Now that the option board is being released I thought I might outline a few of its features some might not be aware of. The QRX option board will return a mix of 4 internal QRX100 channels of audio and an external one from a camera output back to the TRX900AA Stereo transmitter with IFB receiver or a separate ERX1 monitor receiver can be utilized. The internal time code generator in the QRX100 will keep accurate code running with the power off for at least 6 hours. The unit will automatically sync itself through Zax-net. When the QRX100 receiver frequencies are tuned, the 2 transmitters that are being received are automatically retuned to match the QRX100 through Zaxnet. Control range is about 200 ft. The QRX100 can control transmitter audio gain through Zax-net. The Range on the IFB is exceptional as the 2.4 Ghz is high up in the air on the camera and it does not interfere at all with the UHF wireless frequencies being used for the link to camera. The QRX100 option board is a full Zaxnet compatible transmitter and can be used in place of a IFB100 to allow a Deva or Fusion to control multiple wireless transmitters, distribute time code and IFB audio. I think this receiver with option board is a game changer and I hope all will find it a valuable asset. Glenn Sanders President Zaxcom Inc.
  2. Yes the TRX942 does provide digital gain. This is necessary as the SuperCMIT output is very low level. Glenn
  3. There is no way to clip the mic as its gain is too low. The TRX942 has a soft knee compressor that will do a great job limiting the peaks. Glenn
  4. Hi Ben, There is a new version of software that makes the ZFR100 compatable with many more types of SD cards. The time code out of the ZFR100 is 100% compatable with any SMPTE reader. Only a level mismatch would cause a problem. Glenn
  5. The TRX900LT should not need its mic connector shell connected to the mic cable ground. It is good procedure to do so but it should not be mandatory. The LT is 100% comparable with Sennheiser 2 wire mics. Send us the units and we will work it out right away. Glenn
  6. Hi Zack, This sounds like a screen that has gone bad. Check for any kind of contamination around the edge of the screen that might be interfering with the touch function. I would contact our service department and arrange to have it replaced if the problem persists. Glenn
  7. I don't know the exact cause of the problem but I do think this alone is not it. If things do not work out give me a call and we will go over the units here at Zaxcom. Glenn
  8. There is definitely something malfunctioning here. Give me a call and we will get you an RMA. We will repair or replace anything that is not right. The TRX900LT has proven itself in many applications including NFL use. I am sure we will find the problem. Glenn
  9. Yes we will put the set TC start into the IFB100 at some point soon. Glenn
  10. In other words, can the 900LTS for all intents and purposes work exactly like a 900LT when you need it to? Yes Is on board recording compromised a bit, because the audio has to be compressed more, less battery power, compromised performance due to bias voltage supply, etc? No When the LTS in mono mode the unit will work exactly the same as the LT. You can use a mono mic with the LTS transmitter as long as it is the 2 wire type as most of them are. The LTS recording will be the same as the LT in mono mode as well. Glenn
  11. The Deva system of recording to two media at the same time is an advance over other recorders. At the time it was invented it was the only recorder to do it. In present day it is the only recorder to use an infinite buffer. This means that the internal drive is used to store the audio data. The backup drive gets its data from the internal drive. If the external DVD-RAM media has bad sectors the drive can stay off line as long as it needs to in order to lock out the bad sectors. In this way the Deva makes perfect backups on inexpensive DVD-RAM media. This eliminates phone calls from post requesting another backup to replace the bad one. Recording 2 perfect copies of the audio beats 3 or more that can have issues. Glenn
  12. Glenn, can you explain more about the digital outputs still allowing signal pass through in the event of a processor (machine lock up etc) in a Deva/Fusion, does this still mean the attached Mix8/12 would still operate to some degree? Personally I would only ever back up my mono mix track so ideally would use something like the small zax rec that does one track + TC or is this analogue input only? The digital direct outs are unprocessed copies of the analog inputs of the Deva or Fusion. The output is the result of Deva/Fusion hardware that has no DSP interaction. If the DSP were to lock up the digital direct outs would not be affected. A MIX12 or MIX8 has no effect on this signal path. If this output were connected to a backup recorder the iso tracks would be available to replace the mix track that would be lost due to the DSP lock up.Since the topic is now "Back UP" I should point out that with the Deva and Zaxcom recording wireless some of this is a moot point as the Deva can command the wireless system to replay any take so it can be remixed after the fact. A full backup of all of the days audio is available on the wireless virtual multi track recording. If Deva meta data is changed after the fact the files are simply re-mirrored to copy the change to the backup drive. There is never any need to enter the data twice. Glenn

    SD CL9 ?

My post was intended to clarify misinformation about the Deva regarding the signal integrity in the case of a processor freeze. That has now been done. lets agree on the fact that a backup is backup is a backup no matter what magic file system you use. if the drive goes belly up it doesn't matter if it was marf, hfs, fat32 or ext3. only a backup will save your butt in this case. MARF has been discussed here many times. Just to be perfectly clear the major advantage of the system is that when power is lost or something interrupts the recording there is no loss of audio to that point. Fat32 systems have to constantly write to their directories which makes them less reliable than MARF and some audio up to one minute on some systems will be lost no matter how many disks are being recorded to. As this thread is not about the Deva we should end it here but when nonfactual information is presented in any thread regarding the Deva I am compelled to set the record straight. Glenn

    SD CL9 ?

It's a valid point though about having no backup, well you can still have a back but if fed by the o/p of the 788 or the Fusion/Deva (with mix 8/12) and the machine locks up your backup track stops there too. This is not the case with Deva or Fusion. Digital direct outs that are sent to a backup recorder are not effected by the processor in the Deva or Fusion. A system lock up is very very unlikely but if it were to happen the direct outs would not be effected at all and the backup recording would be fine. This feature combined with the MARF file system reliability over FAT32, low power consumption/heat generation and Zaxnet are some of the reasons most high end productions use the Deva as the primary recording device. 15. We wanted to price this as low as possible. The cost of this product is not in the hardware it is in the Zaxcom software necessary to drive the system. It is very unlikly that we will make any money from this at this price. We did the project to enhance the value of the Deva going forward. Glenn
  16. Tomorrow Zaxcom will release software version TRX695 for the TRX900 and ZFR100/200 . This version will add the capability to directly go into record and stop mode from the home menu of the TRX900. It also expands the compatibility of Zaxcom recording wireless and ZFR personal time code referenced recorders with any brand and type of SD card to be used as recording media. Currently Sandisk and Transend are the only supported cards. With this update any SD card should work. Software will be available at Zaxcom.com Glenn
  17. One more thing that might make all feel better. Using an identical source level, when the input trim is adjusted so that the inputs are reading the same level in the trim menu. All inputs are exactly identical in all aspects at that point no matter what the offset number is. Glenn
  18. Every analog mic preamp has a trim. In most cases this is a pot. The pot is set to a position by the sound mixer. No 2 pots are ever in exactly the same position. This is exactly the case here with the addition of a numerical value that shows the pot position. We are not going to change the software as the other 99.9% of all Deva and fusion users would be effected. This system and menu has been fine for about the last 7 years. If any preamp is out of our +/- 3 dB spec the unit can be sent in for service and we would be happy to take care of it. I want to be as helpfull as possible on this but other than a input or two out of the 8 on the machine being out of specification there in nothing wrong in the design or implimentation of the input. In fact many would argue no preamp in a portable device can match the sonic performance of the Deva/Fusion input for Noise and distortion. Please contact us directly if you wish to arrange for service. Glenn
  19. In a pinch the option board can be installed by the dealer but it would be best for us to put it in. The US list price is $795 for the option board. This is about a $400 savings over the IFB100. The QRX100 with option board will act as a time code generator. There is a menu that allows for start time selection of hours and minutes. I believe the option board will keep time code running internally with power off as well. Glenn
  20. It is possible the 10 pin output is loading down the DB25. Disconnect the 10 pin and see if the DB25 levels return to normal. Give me a call if you need more info. Glenn
  21. The input trim must be set by the user in the field. It is impossible to not have an input trim function on any location recorder. This type of circuit provides very smooth transitions without digital steping common to other recorders. The trim function needs to change with different input levels so it can not be calibrated at the factory. The difference in levels between channels is normal in this case and does not present any issue when the input trim is set properly. Since this is an analog circuit with a adjustment range of about 30dB the +/-3 dB offset that we typically see is very normal. Glenn
  22. The inputs of the Deva and the Fusion are designed with photocell gain control. These circuits vary greatly. The reason we use them is that nothing we have tested sounds better. The input channels vary +/- 3 dB and this is normal. This is the reason we have a trim menu page. It is used to calibrate the inputs to a constant level. If the input trims are calibrated and the channels are selected pre fader everything will line up perfectly. If a channel is off more than +/- 3 dB the unit can be sent to us for calibration to get it to be closer but as long as all channels can be calibrated to a 0dB level there in nothing to worry about. Glenn
  23. The TRX900LT is a very different animal from the transmitters that Matthias has. I believe they are some of our first units. The buttons, battery door, internal antenna connection, and internal PA chip have all been upgraded to eliminate any possible issue. Glenn
  24. Hi Gabi. Call me tomorrow I can help you out. Glenn
  25. I do not know if final pricing has been distributed to the dealers yet so I will have to defer to my marketing department on Monday. Glenn
