  1. I have to disagree. Windows Mobile and other MS based platforms have been around long before Apple considered entering telecom. Even the design of the first iPhone was largely bits and pieces from several other manufacturers' hardware and software. When it comes to marketing however, Apple is king. And that's really their main influence on the industry (and their customers)

    zaxcom.com hacked

They live off of exploiting the exploitable, which unfortunately is what GoDaddy-serviced sites are.
  3. That's rule #1 for biz cards - to the point, but also make it sharp. Chances are people you hand the card to won't follow through on QR's, codes, or other fun things. Sending vCards and digital info transfers are convenient, but physical cards are more about the gesture. The card not only has your digits, but also carries a memory with it. /zen
  4. Deal with it. Hey, I'm just here to make the pretty pictures. Sent you an updated draft, Michael.
  5. And then I found this beauty. A..... MICKLE. It also comes with an integrated him on every other channel for that "vintage" feel
  6. I already bought the dog, it's now out of stock. Sorry everyone!
  7. Former Mr. POTUS, I don't know how much experience you have in post, but 9/10 times, shots are selected for best visuals rather than sound. Because actors rarely give the same performance each time, editors often continue a line from the previous angle into the next OTS/dirty shot, and in cases with overlapping dialogue this can be even tougher. On the other hand, general audiences typically don't notice, since we've trained them to look at what's in focus. Ian, with its reshoots, several green screen additions, location issues, and other time crunches, I'm guessing AD had bigger fish to fry than off-camera or secondary OTS dialogue problems. It's one of those shows where comedic pacing is most important.
  8. Traveling (research) across China now - Shanghai, Hangzhou, Xitang, Xi'an, Beijing ... working while capturing stereo ambiences for my own library. Cicadas are on full blast. Great tones of high-ceiling train stations, busy night markets, crowds yelling, traffic on traffic, and even open rice fields with a bullet train whizzing by in the distance. I even met up with Cloud while in Shanghai! Pic is Xitang, a traditional river city by day, music clubs and bars by night. You may recognize it from a a scene in MI:3
  9. Not exactly, but we've been putting through.... rigorous testing
  10. Well-placed lav on each actor, hope for the best (and that there is no music playing)
  11. http://en-us.sennheiser.com/ka-600 Oh boy oh boy. Although having one of these little guys couldn't hurt, not as much as the first line of it's description.
  12. In Audition CS6, is there a way to nudge/transport by a single frame? I dived into the menus/keyboard shortcuts but couldn't find a way to do it.
  13. Technical hilarity aside, general audiences ultimately care for good story. Film school now is a confusing time because of how much more available these "HD" or prosumer equipment are (not the iPad, he needs a real camera). Without learning traditional film workflow, students are learning more about convenience, instant feedback, and consumerist jargon that has flooded the mainstream's standards of what is quality work. I went to Cal State Long Beach, and they are one of the few campuses in CA that still incorporate 16mm in their courses. In fact, my first jobs were as a film loader on many USC theses because their curriculum moved on to all-digital. Because of limitations at the time, they wanted to shoot on film for more "serious" projects, with little to no knowledge on how to operate (no offense). Anyway, my favorite quote from a mentor at CSULB: "If you can't tell a story in 3-5 minutes, what makes you think you can tell one in 90?'
  14. A few nights ago, trying to land a single 30 min take in a theatre - cranes, steadicams, dollys...... all wireless (some plants). Had Ferdinand Almalvez as my boom op, and Kevin Bellante as my utility guy. Great team
  15. It's been several weeks since NAB, but Sennheiser finally sent me an MKE 600 shotty mic to review. It's not as bright or present as the ME66 / K6 module mics, but I think it has a decent enough sound, with AA powering & high-pass switch, for only $399. And you get to enjoy watching me realize that I don't belong in front of camera. Notes I forgot to add (that only we would care about): - Off-axis rejection is pretty good. I'd say the pickup is more supercardioid that it is lobar/tubular. - It doesn't handle RF that well. - Freq. response is pretty flat, with a slight incline from 2-5 KHz. - Battery life is about the same as the ME 66. Introduces about 1 dB of noise compared to 48V. - HPF - Curve indicates ~80 Hz, but I think its more like ~110 Hz. Voices become nasally. 16. It's common knowledge that Keith Richards is immortal
  17. Wicked! Thanks Wyatt. And yeah, PM me your offer for that cable, I'm interested. < hat >
  18. Filled up all 6 inputs, but I don't have a CL6. But hey, I have a 302! Yay! I'll probably need all 3 of those inputs, so is it possible to run that 302's mix out to the 664's link I/O? It probably just dumps it into the mix right? I'm probably confusing myself so sorry if this sounds like rambling. Thanks Matt
  19. I always ask for 30 seconds. Not because the editors want 30 seconds, but because there's maybe be a good loopable 4-8 seconds somewhere in there (it's always a grip sniffling right in the middle)
  20. Well that's a real bummer The signs may have changed, but it will always be Coffey Sound to me. Best of luck John!
  21. Shure Introduces VP83 & VP83F Camera Mount Mics Here's my in-depth article about these mics. I thought it was a well designed system for the lone wolf videographer who needs a small dedicated recorder built-in, at 48/24. You can either run it directly to camera, record to both as redundancy, or use just the VP83F itself and sync up later. The mic actually sounded much 'warmer' than other similar models, and its little menu system was easily navigable. Has an optimal range up to 4-6 feet from subject.
