  1. Your explanation, it seems to make sense but when I tried it in practice I still got a little confused. I would probably need to actually talk with you about some minor confusion I had. For my applications, I don't think I'll be using the panning feature so much so I ain't to concerned with it. Thanks again for the explanation regardless. Gabe
  2. Hi all, this is an email response from Jack when I asked about the panning feature. "The Pan feature is basically a short cut to the output assign bus. The output assign bus routes your inputs to the 10 XLR and TA5 outputs. XLR 1 = bus 1 XLR 2 = bus 2 etc . . . and the same is true for the TA5’s. So if you assign something to bus 1 that same signal will be outputted to both XLR 1 as well as TA5 1. So when you are in the “Pan Matrix Home Screen” and you assign an L, R, C to an input channel you are essentially telling Nomad to send that input to what is essentially your Left, or Right, or Center (both outputs). The odd number output (1,3,5) will always be considered your Left and the even number will be your Right (2,4,6). Now 3,4,5,6 is only routed provide you tell Nomad to copy pairs 3 /4 and or 5 / 6 to the panning feature. To add outputs pairs go into the Mode menu and when you scroll down you will see two menu items “Pan Copy 3 / 4” and “Pan Copy 5 / 6”. If you set these to on you are now telling Nomad that the additional pairs are to follow the “Pan Routing” So for example you are in the “Pan Home Screen” and you have “Pan Copy 3 / 4” set to off and “Pan Copy 5 / 6” set to on and you put a L in channel 1 and a R in channel 2 – you will be sending the microphone that is plugged into input 1 to XLR 1 and TA5 5 and the microphone that is plugged into input 2 will be sent to XLR 2 and TA5 6. Lastly if you see any item in red in the Pan Routing Matrix – that means something isn’t routed correctly. Such as you turned on “Pan Copy” after a L or R or C has been selected so that is not being routed correctly – it’s a failsafe feature."
  3. Being able to define which screens you want would be great but not a huge thing considering the other features I'm looking forward too in the updates.
  4. Is it possible that we can have the star button switch between just 2 menu screens we select in a menu so that I can switch between both with just one hand; ie. switch between just the "card track" screen and input/output screen. I just did a ENG job and couldn't switch screens without putting down my boom. Gabe
  5. I apologize for asking this but how the hell do you change the frame rate? Been looking through the manual and all the menus and can't find it. Gabe
  6. Thanks Jack, is it possible I can talk to you over the phone? Gabe
  7. Hi Jack, for fast access of 2 menu screens, how do you store them? Gabe
  8. Depending on the production, a TC/clap is used (Whether or not the assistant editors use the TC) while others they just want a dummy slate (Don't want the extra cost) or they just don't know how to sync with TC and this is in reference to DSLR gigs. Gabe
  9. I got 4 Transcend 32 Gig cards I use in my Fusion for the last 2 years. Haven't had an issue with them yet (Knock on wood). I swap out both the primary and backup for the other two every so often, depending on the job. Side note, they have held even during a 10 track recording (Cross fingers) on the Fusion. I believe the reason Transcend does not work for DSLR's is due to the massive amount of data that those cameras record and the cards can't keep up. Most people use either the really expensive Sandisk or Delkins because of the write speed. I've been looking forward to the Nomad for several months and now I'm drooling to get my hands on one. Had one pre-order but just waiting...I'm hoping that Coffey Sound (LA) will get stocked soon so I can get it from my dealer.
  10. I used to have some heat issues in my QRX but the perforated cover has alleviated some of it. The unit w/ the IFB board does produce heat in my bag but not to the point of crashing or freezing while in operation; YET. Gabe
  11. On a current show, my mixer does it blind where there's 2 Sony 900R albeit he's close to set to see the action. He goes by script and 1 or 2 rehearsals. When I fill in for him last year for the same show, I did the same way; script and rehearsals. I once got an HD monitor but found I'd never look at it. I'm accustomed to not having one and would trust my ears, boom op, and script. Gabe
  12. Audio Department in Burbank, CA for replacement parts. http://audiodept.com/
  13. Hi Tony I have the COS-11D PT, B6's, and DPA 4063's. None are red dotted. The B6's run hot so they need to be backed down and the 4063 usually live around 20-26 (pretty high) but doesn't really kill the signal to noise ratio. I love the COS-11D's but word of caution, the screw-on lemo's has cause me problems where the leads in the connector become lose and cause a crackling noise. I've switched them to the push-pin lemo's and that seemed to fix it. My levels are about the same; 12-16. Gabe

    QRX100 issues

Just to mention but wouldn't think it would matter, I am also running 2 RX900S in conjunction with the QRX100 through the BDS. I played 3 RX900S and QRX100 inside my bag today and none of them failed for the 1 1/2 hour they were running. The QRX100 has been sent into service twice for 2 mods; don't remember what for and if the heat was there prior or after the mods were installed. After purchasing another QRX100 w/ the option board, I'll probably send this unit in to be looked at. Thanks Glenn, Jack

    QRX100 issues

Hi all, I wanted to know from other QRX100 owners if they have experience similar problems with their units as I have. I am currently using the unit in an ENG bag with a 442 (I do not trust the unit on a camera YET) power through a Remote Audio BDS system. Setting are single mode, LED lights on the side are off, power save mode is on, AES is off, normal mode, IFB off, no option board, and current firmware is 0.93. What has happened is the unit would be fine for a few hours; maybe 2 or 3 then the screen would lock up on the boot-up screen with the LED's lit up green. No audio would pass through. Solution would be to recycle the power. This has only happened once but while the unit was on for several hours, the screen would suddenly have black lines going through it. Solution was a power recycle. This instance the unit was hot to the touch. Prior to firmware 0.93 there was a buzzing sound in either single or dual mode coming through the audio when a transmitter was not tuned and turned on, went away when the TX was on. The first two instances heat could of played a role in the issues but the first issue happened today (Unit in an ENG bag) in a convention hall where the temp. was 65-70 degrees (Los Angeles weather). I do love the unit and hope the bugs will be worked out soon. Gabe
  16. Most of my work is bag/eng based so all I need is 2 tracks. Bag: Primary audio: camera (wireless or cabled) Backup: TRX900/STA150 (wireless) and/or ZFR100. Cart: Primary: Fusion mix+ISO's Backup: None I have been pinched on several occasions when working in a bag without a card in the TR900 going wireless; my RX900s lost power when attached to the camera due to a bad power cable. Lucky production didn't notice it. Another wireless to camera occasion I thought my audio settings for camera were set right and they weren't for a one take scene. I didn't get a call for that one and hopefully escaped that goat. I haven't had issues with the Fusion when working in a bag so I don't roll a backup even though I could with the TRX900 or ZFR100. When I'm going wireless to camera, the TRX900 is my backup. I rarely do cart based work with my Fusion but on my next job, I will do a backup recorder even if it means my ZFR100. Gabe
  17. I wish I had the opportunity to work with a field mixer during run-n-gun situations so that my Fusion hard faders could be utilized the way you mention but have regulated the operations (TX pre-amp control) to the digital faders 9-12 on the Fusion without losing recorder pre-amp controls (Thanks Tom Popp). Unfortunately I am limited to 4 inputs. For mixers who RnG with Deva/Fusion a separate page for TX pre-amp control would be extremely helpful. But I understand this request isn't of high priority to Zaxcom. G.
  18. I was working on a reality show several years ago in NY and was walking back to my apartment late at night through theater row and walked past a gentleman waiting for his car. We both glanced at each other and I instantly knew who he was. I couldn't help myself so I turned round, told him I loved his work and asked to shake his hand. He obliged and said thank you and I went on my way. It was Gabriel Byrne. Funny thing to me was, his face was on the theater marque he was standing in front of.
  19. The Honda Element that I currently drive is spacious when you take out the rear seats but there are some issues. A fully built magliner will not get into the rear hatch so collapsing the cart is a must while the lip hatch is not low enough like an Astro van; proper lifting of anything is a must. I had someone build me a shelve since all my work is ENG which help organize my equipment, semi-hide my cases, and easier access. The mileage is around 26-28 (330+/- miles) on a full tank depending on driving behavior; not bad for a vehicle classified as an SUV. Unfortunately mine is a 4 cylinder so power could be a problem under severe loads and its not gonna win any awards for its looks. All in all I do like it and would recommend it to anyone on their list.
  20. Some of them looks like a hardline IFB box for live shots.
  21. I constantly use the ZFR100 to a SD44 on all the shoots I do. Connected to a Denecke SB-3 lets me stay TOD while power is run through a Remote Audio BDS box (Don't have to worry about it dying before my mixer does); its small and light but expensive setup but for me a peace of mine. You can hook up a cheap RF system (comtek, sennheiser G2, etc) to a broadcast camera that outputs TC and your rockin'. The few gripes I have are its ergonomics and firmware. Unfortunately you soon realize that 2 channels are not enough. G.
  22. Hello all, I have an inquiry about the attitudes of feature mixers on EPK crews (Behind the scenes); these crews usually work for the studio and not for any network or gossip show (E!, ET, etc). Thanks. G.
  23. Hi All, If you contact Versa-Flex, you can possibly try and have them modify one of their harnesses for you to a certain extent since they are in the USA unlike Petrol. http://www.versa-flex.com/contactus.html
