I had the same problem. But I found that if I firmly push in and down (towards the lock) it will lock in place.

I'll have to give that a try.

Well, I’ve had one pole out of the three K-tek poles I have owned that didn’t lock onto any Neutrik XLR, nor onto the Lectro plugs. But the other two that I still own work with anything I have tried. I recently worked with someone else’s PSC pole that didn’t lock to the HM plugon, but did lock with a Neutrik XLR. Solution there was to put the HM on the belt and run a short coiled cable from the pole.

I also have two Ambient poles (one with side and one with bottom XLR) and they both work with HM/HMa plug-ons.

In conclusion, I can’t say that any of this points to the problem being consistently with one manufacturer.

This will be the first K-tek pole that I've owned that has this issue.  I've had a PSC, Loon, and Ambient QX poles that didn't have this issue so it came as a surprise in K-teks new line.

Side note - K-tek's current KP pole's knuckles and feel remind me of Loon's though not as refined.  By far Loon's collars/collarette are the best that were manufactured in the US.  Everything else about them needed a redesign.

  2. Hi all,

Anyone have any issues with Ktek's newer klassicpro TA (TX adapter bottom; 'winglet').  It seems that any standard Neutrek connector will not lock into the adapter whether it be the old generation connector to the newer ones.  My Zaxcom HM plug-on won't even lock in.  Pictures below.

I visited Ktek today to see if my TA was a defect.  Unfortunately it does not seem so since I tried another TA from them with my cables and same result, not locking.  Supposedly they were using a current generation of Neutrik connector as a test piece that was locking it in place.  This connector locked into mine but doesn't help me at all.   A lot of my XLR's has the older generation of Neutrik connector.

I've been told that Wisycom plug-ons and Sennheiser plug-on's has this issue also.  Can anyone confirm if Lectrosonics plug-on is a problem?

    Thanks,

    Gabe

I received mine today.  And have a few questions:

    - Can you have various levels of mAh batteries charging at the same time; can you have 2 2450mAh and 6 2700 mAh charging at the same time?

    - What is the lowest mAh battery that the charger will accept?

    - Are there certain brands that do well or worst with the charger?

    - How do you know after pressing the discharge button that the batteries are actually discharging?

    - Are the battery indicators suppose to flash to indicate charging cause mine goes from flashing with a green light to not flashing, red light when all the batteries are not even full.

I am using Powerx 2700 mAh batteries only on the charger.

    So after a few weeks...

    - You can have various mAh batteries charging at the same time.

    - The brands I am using currently on the charger are the PowerX 2700 and Panasonic Enelops Pro 2450 (Several years old)

    - I haven't tried the discharge feature yet.

    - The charger was acting a bit funny during the first few days.  It would start charging the PowerX batteries (Brand new) with a green light than go red light with no charging on the LED meter with a quarter to half charge; like the display stalled.  Sorry I have no pictures. :P  After a bit more fiddling on the power connector to the charger its working fine as intended.

As Constantin has mentioned, the fan is loud; from another adjacent quiet room, you'll hear it slightly with the door open.  Not ideal if your in a hotel room and have the charger going.  Also, I wouldn't travel with the charger, the plastic body seems like it wouldn't take a beating very well.  I disconnect the charger every time I use the batteries, though I pretty much do that with all my chargers.

The caddies are nice.  They don't seem to ruin the outer jacket of the batteries like the other caddies we are used too.

  5. Using TRX2.5 with 4060 SLIM (Hi sens.) also.  Per se no issues, maybe losing some freq.'s due to it not being low DC but with the work I do, no one will notice.

Apologies if this is hijacking the post but Pindrop, when using the SLIM snorkel, do you tape the back-end, almost covering the grill to make it stay in the button hole?  I've tried and always get a nasty rubbing sound.

  6. I use the XLRs to feed wireless links. The TA5 are used for my multipin send to camera and return. Over here in the UK there is still a huge amount of work that uses cabled to camera, not wireless links. In fact I'd say in 90% of my work I'm hanging out the back of a cam operator. Productions are slowly learning to love double system, but they hate paying for it and budgets are in crisis.

I also use the side outputs for IFB other than my ERX.

And Mike - you are just trolling. As per bloody usual. I'm a sucker for even paying you the slightest bit of attention.

In Los Angeles about 50-60% of my work revolve around plugging into camera for primary audio either through TA-5 RF hop or a beta snake so the I/O side would be essential for easy access.  Though I would love a smaller footprint bag like a modded OR-30, the amount of gear I have that lives currently in my PS602 necessitates a larger bag so I am hopefully the OR-41 fits that need.  I am waiting around for the KTek version and also this one and love how much certain manufactors are now listening to a lot of end users.

  7. I was talking with Glenn about that the other day. He's going to send me a dummy FP8, and from what I read, it isn't just a control surface and it seems to me to be a pretty cool add on to the Nomad. It's also pretty low profile, which is very nice. I need to take the FP8 into account in the bag design. When I did the original Nomad bag prototype, the FP8 wasn't even out yet. Now that it is out I can see how many people are using it and how they have it in the bag. I think with dual channel receivers it shouldn't be an issue at all.

I'm also wondering how many people are using the Zaxcom mic plexer and how they run their antennas.

Hi Dave.  Here is my current setup with a PEGz 2.  The FP8 will hopefully stay attached to the Nomad all the time even if I use my Mix 8.

The placement of the Micplexer 2 is due to my TX for camera hops which goes to the far upper right side ext. pouch.  The RF cabling I just run behind the RX's; sandwiched between the RX's and the flap to the front pouch.

The one thing I don't like about my current config is the wasted space I have between the FP8 and my RF stuff.  I would like to put my LAV pouch and accessories box there but ain't enough room.  So everything goes in the front pouch; everything mentioned previously, pens, dry erase, AA's, transpore, gold mount battery for power.  I'm hoping that the side pouches on the Stingray will hold all that.

  8. Today April 18th is Jeff's birthday. In a reverse present way Jeff has given us the best present ever, this site. Thanks my friend for all you created and added to the production sound community.

    +1 to what Eric said.

    Happy Birthday Jeff!

  9. Apologies if I'm hijacking the thread but didn't wanna start a new one for this and the thread was the most current on Loon's.

This was sorta custom made for me from Audio Department in Burbank, CA.  I didn't like the wing style from Loon and very much wanted something similar to K-Teks CCR's or PSC's version.  After several years of having this idea in the back burner for my Loon, I asked them to come up with something.  This is the end result and I am extremely happy.

  10. My current setup.

    SD 633

    Lectro VR Field w/ 6 VRT's and 6 SMQA's

V-Mount Battery powered (180wh lasts all day)

Lectro IFB transmitter (for IFB's + G3 receivers for scratch -- funny enough, they work since they are in the same frequency range)

It looks heavier than it really is and with my Petrol harness, I can run around comfortably for long periods of time.  Even with the 3 "mini" faders which are only line-level on the 633, the VR Field outputs line level hot enough with no problems so it's been great to have boom + 5 lavs with such a tiny mixer (although I usually am only using 2-3 lavs at any given time).

Hi Cody, very cool setup with the venue and 633.  Would you mind explaining how you rigged your Dipoles in the front pouch please?  I've been trying to find a workable solution.  Thanks.

  11. Hi Nate, has anyone who has bought the HD26 Pro experience any ultra-low level cable noise; mechanical noise; if the cable gets rub or bounces into anything, the noise travels up into the headphone. I am experiencing this and to my ears a sub-sonic rumble that is bugging the crap outta me. I ain't experiencing this with the HD25-1-II. I am wondering if the cable material is the issue.

  12. I had this issue a few months back with 3 C300 on an interview. The only way we could solve it was to rearrange which of 2 monitors that were AC'ed were going to which cameras. Also putting ground lifts on the 2 monitors. Unfortunately I heard the ground loop on the camera itself and my camera return to my Nomad so I had to deal with it; usually I'd only hear it on my return when it happens. I don't remember if any lighting was running off the same circuit as the monitors too. Gabe

  13. On 5D's where production wants some scratch track on it, an ERX.  Usually that consists of my feed from Nomad and a 'video mic' through a Y-cable.

Just a couple days ago, I used a prod. company's ERX's and cables for their 5D's.  Their SOP was TC coming out of the ERX while a 'video mic' was hooked up all through a y-cable they ordered.  A TC slate would only be used during interviews not for B-roll.  On a side note and sorta off topic, the same prod. company would also run a RED Epic along side the 5D's so I would use my modded ERX and feed TC and scratch audio to the EPIC.

    As Justin said "BAD ASS"!
