  1. Yes, beware, aware, of anytime your Nomad reaches the maximum 2GB segment size during record and automatically starts a new segment. Know to look for incomplete mirroring. I had hoped that this was a, fixed, software problem. I experienced two occurrences of this in previous firmware versions. The 2GB hiccup has not occurred on my current version, 7.26 Nomad 12, when I've twice had that 2GB roll over to next segment. Yet I see, from Jason's post, that it has with 7.27 on a Nomad 10. Apparently this occurs with some variable in the field that hasn't been recreated on the Zaxcom test bench. As Jack suggested, help the shop out and note all settings and maybe even circumstances under which this happens.
  2. If only I could get the same conversion service for my Sennheiser T powered 416. I would be oh so happy.
  3. I did have a case of a mashed flat pin in the mirror slot early on with my Nomad 12. I was always careful installing the card. I don't know when it happened. I never felt any unusual resistance during insertions. I had had the machine in and out of the factory for other mods and upgrades around the time that I noticed the flattened pin. It was a ground pin. The machine was having some less than complete mirroring issues at the time. I don't know if they were related. To repair it required an entire new mother board. Perhaps the throat of the card slot could be deeper, to more perfectly align the card with the delicate pins. I have since been, even more than I had been, exceedingly cautious and patient when installing cards. Since I haven't read of this incident as common, I trust that it is rare. Over all I have been very happy with my Nomad 12; an impressive machine. -JW
  4. Hello, Is anyone else having trouble getting the CBS TREX site to run. It logs me in, goes to the page to choose to go to travel and expenses, but hangs up and goes no where. I have tried using a PC with Windows XP (now unsupported by Microsoft), and then my Macbook Pro with three browsers, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome. CBS help desk got me fixed. Said to use my PC with the Windows XP, and use Internet Explorer, and DISABLE the POPUP BLOCKER, from the tools pulldown menu of the browser. I'll try this with my MAC another time, to see if a popup blocker was preventing the TREX app from working. But at least I can do my paper work now.
  5. Actually, Howy told me personally, via phone, at the time of the incident, that Nomads each have variances of toleration to heat. He has tested a sample of these machines for this tolerance. I recall that he mentioned that this point was 140F for one machine tested, and over 150F for another. My red lettered start up screen first read 'overheated condition', and then changed to red letters, and temperature read out, only; no longer reading 'overheated', when it would allow operating, and recording again. And also without the warning tone. Yes, the red font for temperatures is common on a warmish day. On subsequent days the internal temps would regularly be 120F to mid 120's. I wasn't taking chances. I rigged grip equipment to have the machine in shade, and did a full venting of the sides of the Nomad, in the shoulder bag. -And I do like my Nomad, very much, -Thank You Howy!
  6. I had my Nomad 10 over heat and sieze up on me on a job. I was running 5.16. The ambient air temperature was 93F. I was in direct sun for 20 minutes, in standby mode, then back in full shade, when the sieze happened. I did a reboot and had the startup screen text giving me red text for the temperatures and telling me that I was in an overheat situation. I didn't freeze the readout to see what the internal temperatures were; I hadn't shifted to my reading glasses.I waited a tense 5 minutes before the machine cooled enough for that blaring tone in the headphones to abate, and to allow the machine to resume recording. To help cool it I put a spacer between the portabrace bag and the machine, and also raised it up out of the bag to get air around it. I had Howy on the phone while this was going on to make suggestions. He told me to change the processors speed from its default to normal. I didn't have the overheat lock up at the new, slower, setting. Mirroring will take way longer at this slower setting. Other than changing the processors speed setting I don't know what machine operating setups would affect, at what temperature an overheated situation occurs, or how much heat is generated. There does seem to be a range between machines and not a specific temperature for all. My machine seems to be on the low range for this. In the future I would like to see a page where I could monitor temperatures while I'm booted up, and not just on the startup screen. Interesting how those 5 minutes that it took to cool down seemed liked 15 minutes; with all the cameras rolling and everyone waiting on sound.
  7. Help, I have a client who wore, wears, hairspray that has a most persistent, annoying, perfume to it. She has used each of my six pairs of Sony MDR 7506's headphones during past jobs. Each of them have the tainted odor of that perfume. I have tried many products to try to eliminate the odor. First I tried rubbing alcohol. Then I tried vinegar. Then, a product called Odor Blaster. That product even eliminated skunk spray in the past. It didn't even dent this one though. A friend refered me to a product called Zero Odor. Nada, ziltch, its still undeminished. These headphones amount to over $600. Even if I replaced them I'd still just recontaminate them again with the same client. I put one pair aside to let them air out, as a test. That was a year ago. They still stink nearly as much as they first did. Any ideas anyone?
  8. I was using a Lectro system of a UM400 transmitter at 548.00Mhz. Then, a Lectro 195D system at 548.20Mhz. This receivers pilot tone squelch circuit opened and the RF meters showed full deflection. I did walk it away from the other systems transmitter, with the same open squelch, and pegged RF indication. Looking at a Lectrosonics frequency compatability chart that came with the 400 system, they don't have any frequencies closer than 0.5Mhz,. from another frequency. So, perhaps this should be the minimum used in the FreqFinder for Lectros? Or, perhaps it comes down to using the older 195D system with the newer 400 system. Had I more time I would have done a full test with mics attached and seen if it was just the pilot tone squelch opening, with no actual interference for the audio of the systems? -Keep up your good work. For your work the FCC should be paying you too!
  9. I was short on time during a shoot recently (who isn't), and I had to quickly set up a new frequency on a wireless. I looked up a compatible one in FreqFinder. I had all of my other freqs input, and listed. It showed me a compatible one. I set the freq. and, low and behold, it was only 0.2Mhz away from another one of my listed freqs. Clearly too close to use. It said it was OK though. In the future, would it be good to have a mod to the app software that will give a minimum of say, 100Mhz? between recommended freqs? -Thank you for this helpful app.
