The 744T has the firewire DVDRAM attached and that is what I am planning to turn in. Jeff, you're right, it's all about the telecine people having something to reach for if they have problems so that they can get the dailies out. I'm trying to wean them away from this whole "backup" idea, but I gave them the option of using the CF card, which they don't support (because then THEY would have to buy the media to copy to, rather than just stack up the DVDs and DATs that production paid for.) You and I are old enough to be baffled at the whole "backup" concept from Nagra days when one reel of original sound somehow seemed to be adequate. And using the DEVA II for backup is tricky since the firmware in the transfer machines has trouble with the old FAT16 file structure. So when 2nd unit mixers came in with shiny DEVA V's, the telecine would use the DAT for dailies, and keep the DEVA II firmware in the Fostex machines! It's all fun, huh? Anyway, thanks for the input, it will be interesting to see what they decide.
