  8. Congrats to both Zaxcom and Lectrosonics for their AMPAS awards! Glenn Sanders and Howard Stark for the design and engineering of the Zaxcom Digital Wireless Microphone System. The Zaxcom system has advanced the state of wireless microphone technology by creating a fully digital modulation system with a rich feature set, which includes local recording capability within the belt pack and a wireless control scheme providing real-time transmitter control and time-code distribution. David Thomas, Lawrence E. Fisher and David Bundy for the design, development and engineering of the Lectrosonics Digital Hybrid Wireless Microphone System. The Lectrosonics system has advanced the state of wireless microphone technology by developing a method to digitally transmit full-range audio over a conventional analog FM radio link, reducing transmitter size, and increasing power efficiency. http://www.thewrap.com/academy-names-18-scientific-technical-achievements/
  9. Our sincerest condolences to Pete, who is currently treasurer of the CAS. His wife worked in our office for a few years before they moved to Savannah. It's a tremendous loss for him.
  10. From Dorothea Sargent, who is our publicist at the CAS: "I am just going to post this and hope my sound community friends share this post. I have been approached by a prop master for a series for a very prominent director (friend to the sound community!!) They need a Sony TC-510 or Sony TC-510-2. I know there is one out there. Please share and email me if you have a line on one -- CASpublicist@cinemaaudiosociety.org CASpublicist@cinemaaudiosociety.org Here are photos he included in his outreach to me. Come on people, I know we can find one of these!! Thank you!!"
  11. Director Randall Miller has been released from prison. http://deadline.com/2016/03/midnight-rider-director-randall-miller-released-jail-sarah-jones-1201724651/
  12. Someone was asking for an NAB registration code, I can't find the post, but it looks like BA48 still works.
  13. WTF Chris Munro YOU GOT A SHOUTOUT ON STEPHEN COLBERT LAST NIGHT! Go down to about 4:00. Yes, you will have to watch commercials. http://www.cbs.com/shows/the-late-show-with-stephen-colbert/video/FA400926-5338-C10B-7B21-5C8A463F8B6D/late-show-secret-netflix-codes/
  14. This is a huge loss to the filmmaking community. Condolences to his family.
  15. That's probably what I was thinking of. Still, 1/3rd counterfeit is appalling.
  16. There was a study a couple of years ago that found that something like 75% of all cards labelled SanDisc are counterfeit.
  17. Students frequently complain that they fail because they were nervous. I point out that the nervousness never goes away, and it shouldn't. If you're not nervous, it's because you don't care. No matter how secure you are with your equipment, if your career is improving, you will be working on bigger and bigger projects with bigger names and bigger budgets. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst, and once things are rolling you will stop thinking about being nervous because you are too busy succeeding.
  18. Welcome back! Glad to hear you are recovering quickly.
  19. Bruce was on the board of the MPSE when I joined. Very, very nice guy. A totally unique individual. Everyone here would have liked him. Very knowledgeable in many areas, and also a talented musician.

    First Boom?

This would be great if it were true, but this is the first time I have heard this story, and the article does not have any references. Does anyone know if this was indeed the first use of a boom on American feature films? http://inventors.about.com/od/audiowaxrecordstomp3/p/Dorothy-Arzner-Boom-Microphone.htm
  21. As someone who cuts dialogue in post, I use the OC lines quite frequently. It has never bothered me when they are recorded, but it has certainly bothered me when they are not. I understand all the reasons that it is not, but if it is as simple as putting a wireless ISO on another track, I don't see any reason not to. Better safe than sorry.
  22. Tell her it's OK to fart on set. But seriously, a glass of water almost always fixes it. (Learned that recording Foley.)
  23. I have also been away from the forum for a while so I am just now realizing he stopped posting. The Senator is like family to me on this forum. And he is a lot like me, for better or worse. We are both educators, and we can both be abrasive in our honesty. Sometimes it is hard to turn off teacher mode, and I see that sometimes when he posts. Those catch-phrases he uses are the type of things that work perfectly with students, but they come off badly online talking to pros. I think if you meet him in person, you will hear all of his writings in a different and much funnier voice. Senator is a great guy, and one of the most knowledgable teachers of production sound in the business. I do hope he returns.
