  1. So this thread seems to be driving towards this question (or at least it drives me there); Why use 2.4 devices at all? I mean couldn't the Zaxcom IFB devices and others do the same in a different freq band? The 2.4 band seems to result in more rf problems in the bag, the need to power the ifb100/200/QRX etc. separately, find special antenna solutions to get half-decent range and so on. So why not use a much lower band?
  2. I don't know. I always keep the wind protection on (in a doco situation), until I've had time to check for possible draft/vent/wind issues. In a hotel lobby this is not unlikely. So maybe there wasn't time To the OP: the slight colouration of the Softie is almost always better than an actual wind hit on the mic
  3. The "confusion" is not the name UWP, the confusion is that you would call a receiver a lav.
  4. Sometimes yes, sometimes no.
  5. Makes sense. USSS sounds much better, although it looks like a ship
  6. Yes, me too! My 742 has this issue as well, and I'd be glad to get rid of it
  7. You can also tame reverb with a gate, although obviously only when there are pauses. But sometimes that can help, too, and it's a lot cheaper than any of the mentioned plugins.
  8. Sure, the sound makes the music (does that work in English?). Maybe the words/style chosen was not ideal, same with the poison remark. In other threads this happens too, and no one seems to care. But still, it seemed like posters here were criticising the fact that Jon was criticising. And that's not fair. Nobody suggested that he should rephrase his criticism. The fact that he criticised at all seemed to be the issue. No, I still think that the Bambi/Thumper quote should be reserved for people. I have quoted the same on occasion when a Newbie got shot down here in a rude way for asking a Newbie question. What is a frequent reply then? "If you can't handle a tough room, you're in the wrong job". Sorry, btw I quoted you, Chris. Your reply seemed to fit best to my intended post, but I really meant to address everyone.
  9. What is one of the things Senator keeps saying "you can please everyone on JWSound... never!"? Why is criticism not allowed anymore? On EVERY thread where a manufacturer (or their surrogate) discusses, considers or introduces a new product, there will be criticism. I don't want to only post when I like a product. These threads are far more interesting and often more informative when there is criticism. And that Bambi quote is for people! Not for things or companies (no, companies are not people).
  10. Goal Zero sells such foldable panels...
  11. I actually like the input on the front. I mount my distro to the rear rack rails (I uses cases for my cart) facing the back of the cart, which allows for better weight distribution, and so I would benefit for this input arrangement...
  12. But what about drift of the master generator? Or can you sync it to GPS or something similar?
  13. I totally agree with what Jeff said above, post #67. But since even at the manufacturer there seems to be confusion about the ERXs capabilities and the information contained within the manual (so all of Senators strategies fail) is plainly wrong, using the ERX in a way "not intended" is more than just an assumption. When I read that the ERX would lose a frame in 6 hours, I felt confident that I wouldn't need to worry about maintaining an RF connection at all times. And no, in the technical specifications section of the menu, there is no mentioning that this clock accuracy is contingent upon Zaxnet sync with a Nomad. I don't even have a Nomad. I'm glad too that this thread brought to light some unknown facts about the ERX. Wouldn't have been necessary though, if the manufacturer had put the correct info in the manual.
  14. Make sure you connect the Lemo TC cable the right way around. The have and 'IN' and an 'OUT'.
  15. You want to convert wav to mp3 on the Maxx? Or Marf to Mp3? In that case there's only ZaxConvert I think
  16. ... but it's still more than advertised, as highlighted by other posts, Jose's above as an example. Is it a problem in real life? Apparently, for most here, it is not. But for some it is, especially if working under the wrong assumption. OK, let's have a show of hands: I have. In a situation (which happens less than frequently, but more than rarely) where my cart is parked rather far away from set. At setup, I checked the camera and thus saw the ERX was in range, and I usually walk around the set a bit, looking at the rx signal of the ERX to check for potential problems. But you know how it is, after the first setup the camera changes position, and goes out of range of my ERX. But I don't check the unit all the time, so sometimes I can have almost a half day without having proper sync on the ERX. There's enough drift to prompt a call from the assistant editor. Of course, it is also my fault for not checking the ERX all the time, but I am very much used to the set-and-forget dedicated sync boxes. This has really only happened to me once, actually, as I have now returned to my Ambient box on cart jobs. I wasn't so much bitching about false advertising, I think. What I meant was that Zaxcom had chosen a somewhat ambivalent wording and I ASSUMED that they didn't mind about people not understanding it correctly. This by the way, strictly refers to the old website which was active when I bought my ERXs. On the new site the wording is much better, although still a bit weird. We have established by now, even with the help of the manufacturer, that it is not. The ERX is a great device, I do want to make clear that I feel that way. Perhaps for me at least, I was getting into this like a new relationship, seeing everything that's great about and not seeing, perhaps even ignoring all that's not good about it, or what it simply isn't. I just wanted it to be this perfect thing, and it's always a bad awakening when the truth is revealed. And as in a new relationship, I just need to move beyond that point and still see everything that's good about it while accepting what's not good.
  17. Yes it does, and it's Zaxcom playing the game. Of course, I'm only a guest here, language-wise, but when I first got interested in the IFB2 and read about it on Zax's page, I read EXTENDED droput. To me that sounds like a longer period than a couple of seconds. And that's what I wanted it to sound like, too, so I may have mis-read out of excitement, but I also think that this was what Zaxcom was bargaining on. They could've just published actual measurements. Then again, no one really does that anymore.
  18. Even when using two different Dc supplies? Using a wall wart totally goes against my intent of being mobile and defeats the purpose of my expensive Meon...
  19. There's no dialog coming out of your radio? You are a lucky man!
  20. Funny how two people can interpret the same paragraph totally differently...
  21. John, how did you measure the TC? Did you feed it into something?
  22. Well, a device called ERX2TCD sounds, to me, primarily like a Timecode device. Instead, it is both, for audio and TC, it's a compromise device, and that's fine. The price does reflect this. When compared to a dedicated TC box, it seems obvious that this must have it's drawbacks somewhere
  23. Yes, I have the IFB100 and the QRX100 with IFB option, but I don't actually use it on the QRX. I don't know of a way to disable it, but maybe that could be a solution. BTW I have read in other threads about people using the Meon for most of their gear and a Hot Box connected to a separate outlet on the Meon. All the 2.4gHz stuff is connected to the Hot Box, whine free. I tried it, but for me that didn't help
